The monument is known for its construction on the basis of mud walls, which were used as a large terrace for its facade, which gave a morphology of a truncated pyramid that reached a height of 16 m, and the use of double-sided thick walls for their indoor enclosures, located at the top of the building., most painted white. The plant enclosures are orthogonal, and a very characteristic sign is the architectural element of bench or floor spaces L ceremonial use. The rooms were filled and then build on these, in order to gain volume, until the final dimension.

Lima Leaf-toed Gecko Phyllodactylus sentosus (Dixon & Huey, 1970), listed as Critically Endangered, has been registered only in some localities between the valleys of the Rímac and Lurín rivers, in the central and southern of Lima city; however its distribution to the north is not documented yet. In the present note we report for first time the presence of P. sentosus in the Huaca Tambo Inga, which is located on the right bank of the Chillón River Valley in the district of Puente Piedra, extending its distribution 19 km to the northeast

The present paper seeks to relate current knowledge of Lima funerary practices with hypotheses regarding the nature and moment of the arrival of the Lima culture to the Lurín Valley. Our central goal is to show that, when integrated into a regional and temporal context, the study of mortuary practices can help to clarify further the socio-political situation on the central coast of Peru between the end of the Early Intermediate Period and the start of the Middle Horizon. We present a contextualized analysis of burials recovered during the 2009 season at the site of Lote B in the Lurín Valley.

This article introduces the colonial temples of Huaura and Checra’s river valleys in the sierra of Lima; a surprising example of Peruvian vernacular architecture with baroque and neo-classical altarpieces, mural paintings and historical furnishing which sit in spectacular natural surroundings. We aim to disseminate their interesting history and show their potential as a tourist attraction in connection with the natural and cultural resources of the area, such as lagoons, peaks, thermal waters, archaeological remains, popular festivals, folklore and local gastronomy. For that we will study these churches from the artistic point of view and suggest some routes which could be easily implemented.

This investigation was initiated at the request of the mayor of the district of Santa Cruz de Flores and the National University Federico Villarreal (specialty of Anthropology and Archaeology) in order to conduct an interdisciplinary study on the cultural heritage of the district. Painfully the project did not reach its final phase (publication), but archaeological field stage if culminate reached. In this way we meddle in social understanding and cultural archaeological sites jurisdiction, identifying local people apparently migrated or were displaced to the bottom from the village of Callaguaya (upper section of Mala), at the end of the period Middle Horizon (600-1000 AD.) or early Late Intermediate Period (1000-1470 AD.). Then they will be strategically occupied by the Incas during the Late Horizon (1470-1532 AD.) Period for control and management of the area, demonstrating this proce...

The study of the indexes of water to Olea europea L. is important because it allows understanding of the water capacity of this species. This trial was carried out in the Valley Cañete with olive varieties ‘Frantoio’ and ‘Sevillana’ (both 10 years old), with the aim of determine its moisture content. In both varieties relative water content (CHR), the Content of water saturation (CAS), the water deficit for saturation (DAS), dry weight (PS) and fresh weight (FW) was measured. ‘Sevillana’ shown a CHR (73.7%), PS (0.180 g) and PF (0.330 g) were higher than in the cultivar 'Frantoio' (with values of 68.2%, 0.140 g and 0.258 g respectively). In conclusion, these results indicate that the variety ‘Sevillana’ has greater capacity than water ‘Frantoio’ to withstand arid environments.

The hematological and blood biochemical parameters are useful tools for equinemedical practice but their usefulness for the Peruvian Paso Horse is limited by the absenceof reference values. The present study was conducted to determine hemato-biochemicalvalues in apparently healthy horses. Forty nine animals were evaluated and they were classified according to sex [males (n=17), females (n=30)] and age [young (n=23), adults(n=26)]. The hematological (red blood cell count, hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, white blood cellcount, band neutrophils, segmented neutrophils, eosinophils, monocytes, lymphocytes,neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and platelet count) and the biochemical (total bilirubin, directbilirubin, indirect bilirubin, ALT, AST, ALP, GGT and CK) profiles were estimated bymeans of automated analyzers. The effect of...

The definition of the form of authority that was dominating the Lurín and neighboring valleys during the late periods continues being an object of debate. Ethnohistorical sources have been massively used to reconstruct the socio-political regional framework before the Incas. Though certain authors defend a model of theocratic power dominated by the priests of Ychsma-Pachacamac’s cult, others propose a division of the authority between priests and curacas, i.e. between religious and secular. Monumental architecture and settlement patterns provide interesting information to feed this debate. Concretely, I compare this set of archaeological data with the information gathered in the Lurín valley before the reforms of Toledo. It confirms the importance of curacas, their subdivisions and hierarchies, and the absence of link with the religious sphere, but rather with the most secular aspect...

The era of hunter - gatherers (ca. 10.000 to 2.000 BC), is an issue that has not been completed in the immediate vicinity to the Arequipa city. Research on this important period are explained using sites such as larger and more complex Sumbay caves in the high plateau, or the shell middens from Camana, in the coast, or Puyenca near to Mollendo on the coast, important archaeological sites but distantly located with respect to the Arequipa valley. In this article the presence of pre-ceramic archaeological sites in streams that flow into the river Yarabamba evaluated. Similarly the location of a small shelter with rock art in the gorge of Cachiwasi (seasonally dry river Yarabamba tax) reporting. Recent data suggest that the system composed of river-Quequeña-Yarabamba Sogay and confluent streams have the potential not intended for the elucidation of some problems related to the period of hu...

Objectives: To determine the composition of Lutzomyia species at the Rimac valley. Material and methods: The area studied was the Ullupampa annex (2000 msnm), San Jeronimo de Surco district, Huarochiri province, Lima. The sandflies were captured using Shannon traps, CDC light traps and direct capture, in intra and peridomiciliary ambient and natural refuges. Results: We identified 1742 phlebotomine sandflies of the Lutzomyia genus, 52,6% corresponded to Lutzomyia verrucarum, 28,2% to Lutzomyia peruensis, and 19,2% to Lutzomyia noguchi; the first two were more abundant in intra and peridomiciliary ambients, and the latest in natural refuges. Lutzomyia density presents seasonal variations, mostly found between March and May. Night activity peak is between 20 and 21 hours. Conclusions: Fruit cultivations surrounded housings separated by “pircas” and domestic animals within the house fav...

Archaeological excavations at Amato, a site established at the beginning of the Early Intermediate period (circa 50 BC – 300 AD) in the Acari Valley of the Peruvian south coast, uncovered two isolated human heads from different contexts. One head was found near an area where dozens intentionally decapitated skeletons were recovered. The second head was located in association with the main wall that encloses the site. Both heads were buried in similar fashion to Early Intermediate period south coast trophy heads; however, these heads from Amato were not culturally modified (e.g. perforated frontal bone and/or artificially enlarged foramen magnum). These two isolated heads demonstrate that not all human decapitation in the Acari Valley was for the purposes of securing trophy heads. Based on these findings, we suggest that the purpose and motivation for human decapitation and head-taking ...

The phylum Nematoda is considered one of the most diverse groups in South America, as it is found in all habitats and is dynamic regarding the ecological characteristics of environments, this group becomes important for monitoring the state of ecosystems, thus making it of great importance. Its identification and occurrences in western Amazonia. Thus, the present study aims to present a list of fish nematodes in western Amazonia, as well as to describe their specific hosts. The study was carried out in the Alto Juruá region of the Western Amazon around the municipalities of Cruzeiro do Sul – Acre and Guajará – AM, Brazil. A total of 10,716 fish were collected, belonging to eight orders, 32 families and 216 species, with only 164 species showing nematodes. The species with the highest number of hosts were Procamallanus (S.) inopinatus Travassos et al., (1928), (67), Contracaecum sp....

Archaeological research carried out in the Acarí Valley enables us discussing the dynamics of the early occupations in this valley regarded as the southern boundary of the archaeological-cultural region known as the Peruvian south coast. The foundation of the complex cultural development of Acarí can be found at the Hacha site that belongs to the Initial Period. Material evidence and several radiocarbon dates indicate that Hacha was occupied for a long time, from as early as 3398 to 2737 cal BP. Subsequently, new human settlements seem to have been established in the vicinity of Hacha, following which the site was finally abandoned. At the same time, new settlements were established in other parts of the valley and became the foundation for a series of large settlements that flourished during the early phases of the Early Intermediate Period. Starting with Hacha, the pottery developed ...

Recent research in the Palpa valleys, in the northern section of the Rio Grande of Nasca drainage, has revealed many archaeological evidences (settlements, funerary structures, diverse materials and remains of daily life). This evidence is shedding new light on the intensity and nature of the Wari occupation in the south coast of Peru. Excavations in many sites with evidence of Wari occupation in the coast, the Yunga Desertica, and the highlands, help us to understand the strong integration that existed amongst different ecological zones and the interest that motivated the Wari to occupy the Palpa and Nasca valleys. In this context, the evidence registered until now in the Palpa valleys indicated that the south coast, and specially the Rio Grande drainage, had an important role in the Wari strategy of expansion and control in the region, allowing the access to resources not existent in t...

In this paper we show a serial of jerarchized approachs that we expect help to define and to delimit concret and conceptually the real, methodological and epistemological borders of the society knowed in the archaeological literature as Ychma, which one was settled specificly in the Lurin and Rimac valleys at the central peruvian coast during the prehispanic period called Late Intermediate (circa 900 DNE- 1470 DNE) but survived in many socioeconomic and sociopolitical aspects to the Inca occupation of the area. To carry out such approachs we have based in our knowledge of the social materiality described as Ychma y, above all, in it dialectical negation in the south part of the central coast recognized for us in the area of the Mala river valley, where we have almost a decade of fieldwork and understanding of the social phenomenae both intra and inter valley.

The influence of a cooling system (continuous ventilation and intermittent water spray) on productive, reproductive and economic levels of dairy cattle during the summer of 2012 was compared to previous summers where cooling systems were not present. Records of 890 cows in production of two dairies of the Valley Huaura, Lima, Peru were analyzed. Milk production, total solids, conception rate, services per conception and cost-effective data was collected. Farm 2 achieved a significant increase in milk production (p<0.05) due to the cooling system, while in Farm 1 was observed an increase in the percentage of total solids and a reduction in conception rate (p<0.05). The results showed that the use of a cooling system (fans and sprinklers) to reduce heat stress in dairy cows can be effective depending on the circumstances of each dairy herd.
