Transmission lines are structures built to provide energy for the population's consumption. However, these lines have a direct or indirect impact on ecosystems, altering their composition and biotic interactions. The objective of this study was to determine the floristic composition, pollination, and dispersal syndromes in the transmission and subtransmission lines Las Flores-Erandique (SFE), San Pedro Sula Sur-Naco (TSPS), and Danlí-Chichicaste (SChD) in Honduras. To conduct the vegetation characterization, the present flora within the 16 × 16 m right-of-way area was inventoried, and herbs, shrubs, and trees were collected. To establish the relationship between habitat and floral traits, and determine the pollination syndromes, flower size and corolla colors were based, while dispersal syndromes were determined considering different characteristics in fruit morphology, fruit type, col...

Canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL), caused by Leishmania infantum (Ross, 1903), is an emerging disease in Uruguay, posing significant public and animal health challenges. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between clinical signs and hematological, hepatic, and renal alterations in dogs seropositive for L. infantum in Uruguay. Canids were classified according to the absence/presence of clinical signs as asymptomatic (no apparent signs of disease), oligosymptomatic (less than three clinical signs compatible with CVL), polysymptomatic (three to six clinical signs), and hypersymptomatic (with more than six clinical signs). Laboratory analysis revealed significant alterations in hematological, hepatic, and renal parameters as the number of clinical signs increased. Polysymptomatic and hypersymptomatic dogs exhibited significant decreases in erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, me...

Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV). This virus can enter the host through different routes, such as the oropharynx, nasopharynx and intradermal routes, among others. In 2022, an outbreak was reported in which the virus seemed to have mutations that would make it spread more efficiently. We present three cases of monkeypox in a family of eight members. Patient 1, a 32-year-old man, presented with a papule under the left eye, which was hatched manually by his wife. He then developed endophthalmitis associated with fever and headache, in addition to nonpainful vesicular pruritic lesions on the extremities and genitalia. He was eventually clinically diagnosed with monkeypox infection. Patient 2, a 27-year-old woman (wife of patient 1), presented with vesicular and pustular lesions on the chest, extremities and anal area six days after exposure through close cont...

998/5000       This work explains the need for a geological and geotechnical research model to define the foundation for structures (towers and poles) of electric transmission lines. In practical engineering, it has been found that in some project studies of this type, geological investigations are diminished or dispensed with, thereby damaging geotechnical investigations based on knowledge of geological sciences. Because of this there is also less confidence in stability and security for future works to be built. With this research, the methodologies of geological and geotechnical investigations are broadly exposed, and a tentative general model of geological and geotechnical investigations to define the foundation of the structures of electric transmission lines is presented. In ad...

Currently, the use of electric energy is everywhere; however, this normalization has made many people unaware of its origins and the different stages through which this sector and, with special emphasis, the electric power transmission subsector, has gone through. Thus, in this new post-COVID panorama, numerous reforms and state plans on various economic and social areas are placed on the table for the «new normality», of which the electricity sector is viewed with a vital perspective in the present and in the future. Therefore, a historical review and knowledge of its origins is necessary for the configuration of this «new panorama», and in the future, in order to learn from the past so as not to make the same mistakes in the present and in the future. The electricity sector is the cornerstone and deserves more and better research in our country.

Introduction: The elimination of malaria is the definitive solution to prevent the growing resistance to drugs and insecticides from threatening the progress made since the beginning of the 21st century. Objective: To analyze the spatio-temporal characteristics of malaria transmission in the Loreto region. Methods: We carried out a time series study, and the weekly incidence of malaria in Loreto in the last 20 years (2000-2019) was analyzed using data from the Epidemiological Surveillance System of the Ministry of Health. With this information, we modeled the weekly incidence of malaria across the Loreto surveillance reporting units and determine its spatio-temporal characteristics at the macro and micro-regional levels. Additionally, we characterized the “hot zones” and their stability over time. Results: During the last 20 years, we observed that Loreto has a seasonal malaria trans...

In this research is analyzed COVID-19 transmission by thermodynamic and energy balance between geographic areas and its correlation with possible COVID-19 transmission between 2 persons at least. In order to achieve parameters for medical doctors, as for example the minimal distance among two infected people, who have this virus, there were designed mathematical models that were based in statistical data to get information of COVID-19 propagation as the dependence on temperature of geographic areas, moreover the thermal effect of the minimal distance between two people avoiding COVID-19 infection. With this work, answers are sought to the questions: if it could be possible to find a relation between temperature and virus transmission? Or if it could be possible to get a correlation variable among thermal variables with minimal distance separation (it was described above) for two people? ...

Thirty four nose decorations from the tomb of the Lady of Cao has been analyzed by EDXRF-analysis and transmission measurements. These nose decorations are made partially on gold, and partially on silver. EDXRF-analysis showed that, while gold areas all show a similar composition, silver areas exhibit an erratic composition, and also an unusual high percentage of gold, up to 35 %. To verify that this erratic composition is not depending on surface enrichment processes, X-ray transmission measurements were carried out, which gives the bulk composition of the samples. These last measurements completely confirm EDXRF-results. Therefore the conclusion could be that a high quantity of gold was added intentionally to the silver alloys, for not clear reasons, may be to avoid the oxidation process typical of high concentration silver in silver alloys.

Hepatitis B virus is a highly infectious DNA virus, and the chronic carrier status may lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer. These conditions may supervene in a short time period if there is coexistence of both hepatitis B and D viruses, as it usually occurs in Peru. Our country has an intermediate endemicity, although there are areas with high, medium and low endemicity; however, migration is spreading these infections. It is important to point out that there is horizontal transmission in children from endemic areas and a low level of vertical transmission, which is an advantage in order to achieve early protection using the hepatitis B vaccine. This vaccine HBV is efficacious and safe, and vaccination is still one of the most cost-effective interventions. Pilot hepatitis B vaccination programs have been implemented in Peru, achieving a significant impact on the infection rates; so it is ...
