DOI: 10.26439/persona2020.n023(1).4835 Social status plays a central role in teenage school life. This qualitative study aims to examine the representations of school social status among 10 senior private high school students (M = 15,89, DE = 0,33) in Lima. Focus group and in-depth interviews were conducted. Results evidence both dominance and prestige are effective strategies to gain status at school. Dominant students show aggressive behaviors, physical strength, and are associated with drug use among their peers. Prestigious students’ traits are academic achievement, prosocial behavior, and sport success. Non-heterosexual identity and mental illness negatively affect social status in high school. Relations between these factors and their possible implications are discussed.

Each year, 220 000 new cases of tuberculosis (TB) are diagnosed in the Americas, and more than 50 000 persons die every year as a consequence of this disease. One of the most important and fascinating aspects with respect to TB is that it is a one hundred per cent curable and preventable disease; however, it has become the most important transmissible disease for human beings. In Peru, a thorough understanding of the tuberculosis epidemics allows us to efficaciously apply the available tools for TB control, and the usefulness of interventions is increased, having achieved considerable progress made in TB prevention and control. In 1992, more than 55,000 cases of TB were notified, and this figure has had a 32.7% reduction for 2007. The goal for year 2011 is to achieve a 50% reduction in the number of cases of TB. The diagnostic capacity for multidrug resistant TB (MDR-TB) and extremely dr...

We performed a cross-sectional study to estimate the prevalence of malnutrition instant pregnant in a poor urban area of Lima. The sample included 61 pregnant women and 75 women control over 15 group, not pregnant, apparently healthy. The prevalence of protein-energy malnutrition in pregnant women of 29.6% was found, using the criterion of percentage weight / size for gestational age according to the nomogram Rosso, and a prevalence of 26.7% in non-pregnant, and this difference was not statistically significant . It also reports a proportion of pregnant women under 20 years of 11.5% and 49.2% of pregnant women had at least one prenatal care. We conclude that the prevalence of malnutrition in pregnant women is high and would be related primarily to pre-gestational nutritional status.
