This article aspires to be a contribution to an anthropological approach on housing and habitat, understanding both notions as complex socio-cultural phenomena. In this sense, our aim is to reflect —from an ethnographic point of view— on the processes whereby living spaces are appropriated, as well as to reflect on certain features that neighbors’ sociability adopts in a social-interest housing complex built as a large urban unit in the South-East area of Buenos Aires, specifically in the barrio of Villa Soldati. In order to do so, we made a distinction between planned spaces and developed spaces, and also differentiated three uses of the common and shared spaces in this particular housing complex: spaces with idle use, incompatible use and uncivil use. The qualitative methodology used in this study was based on a still ongoing field work, which included field observation and non-d...

In order to facilitate 3D object processing, it is common to use high-level representations such as local descriptors that are usually computed using defined neighborhoods. K-rings, a technique to define them, is widely used by several methods. In this work, we propose a model for the distributed computation of local descriptors over 3D triangular meshes, using the concept of k-rings. In our experiments, we measure the performance of our model on huge meshes, evaluating the speedup, the scalability, and the descriptor computation time. We show the optimal configuration of our model for the cluster we implemented and the linear growth of computation time regarding the mesh size and the number of rings. We used the Harris response, which describes the saliency of the object, for our tests.

Isla Santay is an important Ecuadorian conservation area for native species, but with little information on mammals. Between August 2018 and January 2019, the richness and abundance of medium and large mammals was studied in two areas with different land use: undisturbed, and disturbed. We used a combination of camera trapping, direct observation, and indirect evidence (i.e. tracks, scat) for quantifying species richness. We recorded a total of six species, all observed in both zones, and three of them are currently included on the Red List of Mammals in Ecuador. In the undisturbed zone, Leopardus pardalis was the most frequently observed species and showed the highest activity; in the disturbed zone, L. pardalis and Procyon cancrivorus were the most active. Additionally, we reported the presence of Lontra longicaudis and Philander melanurus for the first time in this reserve. Several sp...

The writing test of the Third Comparative and Explanatory Study implemented by the Latin American Laboratory for Assessment of the Quality of Education constitutes one of the few international experiences of large-scale assessment of writing. In order to strengthen these experiences, the theoretical framework adopted in this test, the task applied, the rubric and the coding process are reviewed, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. The results show problems related to validity and reliability, and allow to formulate recommendations for future international assessments of writing. These include an articulation between the theoretical framework, the objectives and the scope of the assessment, a process of thorough review of the topics and syntax of the prompts, and the use of strategies to obtain evidences of validity and reli...

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is defined as the practices of the company based on ethical values and principles of transparency, which seek to promote the continuous improvement of the relationship between the company and its stakeholders (stakeholders). These segments include its customers, suppliers, partners, customers, the environment, communities, government and society in general. Thus, CSR comprises a wide range of voluntary activities of companies that aim to improve social and environmental performance of them and optimize their competitiveness. The application of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in business has effects on organizational climate, operational performance, innovation and reputation of the companies. The incorporation of SMEs that are part of the value chain of large companies, in implementing CSR, will result in improved operational processes, streaml...

This study investigated how advertisers from the creation area of large advertising agencies perceive and characterize their creative process. Thirteen Brazilian professionals were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed by content analysis. Results indicate that several stages of the creative process overlap, such as the incubation period of one job functioning as the preparation for the next. Motivating factors include pleasure of the act of creating, media visibility and its social reach. Limiting factors include the agencies’ excessive departmentalization, reduced deadlines, and the clients’ subjectivity influencing the advertisement approval.

Over time, different process improvement models have emerged to assess software quality and apply improvements based on the evaluation. Among the most outstanding are CMMI and ISO/IEC 15504, and MPS are the three main models for evaluating and improving software processes. The differences that are addressed in the article are benefits and maturity levels. CMMI is based on the ideas of evil reproduced in a framework with five levels. ISO/IEC 15504, formerly known as SPICE. It has a framework of 6 groups of maturity. MPS-BR is based on CMMI with the difference that it has seven maturity levels. The main difference between CMMI, MPS-BR, and ISO 15504 is their orientation. While CMMI is aimed at large companies, MPS-BR focuses on medium and small companies, and ISO 15004 is aimed at any company, whether large companies or PyMEs.

In Peru only treat 29.1% of urban domestic wastewater is performed. This treatment is carried out at 143 industries, pouring the rest into rivers, lakes and the sea, so it is necessary to give more importance to the management of water resources. The textile industry, which uses large amounts of dye pigments not properly treat their effluents, being part of the problem. The Fenton process is an alternative for the treatment of effluents from the dyeing process, the most important pollutant azo compounds. The Fenton process provides the ability to reuse and / or recycle water with high efficiency (86%) in a few minutes.

Technological development accompanies the progress of human civilizations and is closely related to their social and cultural characteristics. Currently, the rise of technology and, especially, of information and communication technologies determines to a large extent the way in which we relate to each other and how we approach aspects such as politics, economics and education, among others. In the organizational context, technology is an indicator of the degree of maturity and competitiveness of companies and provides them with the capacity to respond to market demands and be sustainable over time. However, it is notorious in o...

Integration of the zircon U-Pb ages available on the Toquepala Group, La Caldera batholith (s.l.), and porphyry Cu systems, in combination with geochemical data, unravels the evolution of the magmatic arc of southernmost Peru during the Late Cretaceous and Early Paleogene. Arc magmatic production increased starting ~90 Ma, and culminated between ~74 and ~62 Ma through a flare-up characterized by large plutonic and volcanic (especially ignimbritic) volumes. This long process resulted in the thickening of the arc crust, to a state of overthickening that triggered its extensional collapse, starting diachronously 61–59 Ma, during which giant porphyry Cu systems were emplaced between ~60 and ~53 Ma. Our empirical reconstruction of this protracted evolution provides simple guides for exploration of giant porphyry Cu deposits in southern Peru, as well as a magmatotectonic theoretical framewor...

The objective of the research work was to propose a teaching method that allowed the self-management of knowledge related to the zoology of invertebrates by the students of the 3rd year of the Bachelor of Education career, comparing in-person learning vs. those not in attendance. For the development of the research, information gathering and processing methods were used, which allowed us to verify the shortcomings in terms of the use and elaboration of this type of teaching medium, for the teaching-learning process from the non-face-to-face modality. The illustrations were made to correspond with the pedagogical and hygienic requirements, which contributed to the aesthetic education of the students and raised the interest in the didactic material. Suggestions and arguments made by different experts were taken into consideration, which were largely the basis for the realization of the wor...

The coffee industry, coffee shops and restaurants are in constant expansion and growth. Consequently, large amounts of Spent Coffee Grounds (SCG) are generated, which are solid coffee residues obtained after the ground coffee leaching process. This residue can be reused because of its compounds as phenolics. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of extraction time (30-90 min) assisted by ultrasound (45kHz and 50 W), liquid-solid ratio (10-40 ml/g) and ethanol concentration (20-93.8%) in the total phenolic compounds (CFT) content expressed as mg gallic acid/g SCG dry matter. Surface response methodology (MSR) was used, as an efficient technique that minimizes the number of experiments, through the central rotational compound design (DCCR) to determine the effect of these 3 factors and to perform the optimization of the extraction process conditions of total phenoli...
