Objective: To evaluate the history of cataract and vision problems in people over 50 years of age in Peru. Methods: Secondary database analysis of the Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES) 2016. We included 7970 adults over 50 years of age. We evaluated the indicators of interest at the national and regional level. Likewise, we analyzed factors related to these events using a multivariate Poisson model. Results: 13.6% (95% CI: 12.8-14.3%) had a history of cataract, 20.4% (95%CI: 19.5-21.3%) had long-distance vision problems. (LDVP) and 29.4% (95%CI: 28.4-30.4%) of short-distance vision problems (SDVP). In the multivariate model, we observed that people with a history of high blood pressure, a history of diabetes, and older age groups were significantly more likely to report a history of cataracts and vision problems. We also observed that people with a better economic status had a...

Article 220 of the Civil Code allows the judge to declare ex officio the nullity of a legal act, but only if it is ‘manifest’. This capacity of the judge has generated two important questions: what steps must the judge follow to declare the nullity ex officio; and how can a manifest nullity be distinguished from a non-manifest nullity? In this line, the author of this paper addresses the first question by making an extensive analysis of what is set forth in different case law (files of the Tribunal and Plenary Cassations). However, there is a great deal of work ahead in terms of the standardization of the jurisprudence as well as to achieve a correct articulation between this and the doctrine. Thus, the author highlights the idea and the need to find a mechanism of steps for the declaration of nullity that contemplates the principles of due proce...

Introduction. Our country’s transition is the non-westernized type, because problems that have not been solved persist (nutritional deficiencies) along with emerging problems (overweight and obesity). Objective. To describe the presence of coexisting chronic malnutrition (CM) with obesity (O), nutritional anemia (NA) and vitamin A deficiency (VAD) and obesity (O) with NA and VAD in children under the age of 5. Design. Secondary analysis of the MONIN 2007-2010 survey. Setting. National study. Participants. Children under the age of 5. Interventions. A total of 3 764 children were weighed and measured. Hemoglobin dosage was obtained in 2 808 children, serum retinol in 1 524. Hb below 11 g / dL was diagnosed as NA. Correction by altitude was taken into account. The cutoff for VAD was serum retinol <20 ug/dL. The relation of CM and O with height/age ratio and weight/height, with cutting...

The pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus highlighted the diversity and inequality among older people in Latin American countries. From what theoretical frameworks is it possible to undertake its analysis? How to do it from the specificities of the region? What is the role played by the State and public and social policies? This article arises from the conviction that it is necessary to review the analytical frameworks used to understand aging. It is proposed to problematize unequal old age by reviewing and articulating some theoretical premises of two approaches, that of the life course and that of the political economy of aging. It is argued that these allow a better grasp of the complexity of social reality, nurturing more accurate diagnoses about the situation and problems of the elderly in the region, which can serve as a starting point for the design of new policies and to ...

Historically, the problem of old age has not been an object of interest to the legal debate. Only in recent years, this complex stage of life has begun to be addressed, especially by Civil Law, Criminal Law and Philosophy of Law. However, there are still few studies which focus on the constitutional perspective and the rights of the elderly. That is the profile of the present work, which carries out a detailed and comparative analysis of the regulations of the highest hierarchy in Argentina. It emphasizes that, in accordance with postmodern times, the elderly person is a weak individual who frequently becomes a victim of economic, structural, physical, psychological and sexual violence. It also stresses that Law is an instrument of great value to overcome this weakness, by strengthening the living conditions and status of the elderly.

The problem of antimicrobial resistance, is as old as the creation of the first antimicrobial, its irrational and indiscriminate use, has put in competition to the same bacterium who trying to survive generates mechanisms to evade these antimicrobials that the human being creates for the purpose with more spectrum, generating a vicious and endless cycle. Among its most successful mechanisms is the creation of enzymes called beta-lactamases which hydrolyze beta-lactams, the most widely used antimicrobial family in our times. Generating real public health problems in countries where their presence is evident above 50%, dramatically affecting morbidity, mortality and costs. From the foregoing, we believe it is necessary to understand the problem from the beginning, evaluating its evolution in different realities and the therapeutic alternatives we have in front of them.

This paper analyzes the last judgments in the case of the Aznalcóllar mines (or Boliden case). A well-known event in Spain that produced significant environmental damage, and that, having occurred before the new Law on Environmental Liability and to be resolved under the previous legislation, is causing countless problems for reimbursement of the substantial expenditures invested by the Spanish Public Administration inrepairing the damage. Posed a negative conflict of jurisdiction between civil and administrative courts, the Special Chamber of Conflicts of Jurisdiction of the Supreme Court has just returned the matter back to the former. To the author, it is, however, a false or apparent conflict, because of loopholes in that previous law, fortunately overcome for the future.

The recent controversy over the theory of capital and distribution, the discussions on Sraffa and the revival of studies on Marx's work that appeared in the 50's and especially in recent years have brought again closer to the table some old issues of Political Economy. Among them, the relationship between the theory of value and the theory of distribution. This question, as is known, can be traced back very far. To not go so far, remember that in Ricardo's work can be found clearly stated this issue. The unfinished quest for an invariable standard of value is linked precisely with the contradictory effects that a change in wages or benefits had on costs and prices, effects that were due – as perceived by Ricardo - to the different proportions of capital and work required by each industry. Much later, Sraffa thought he had found the underlying principle used for his own theoretical cons...

The analysis of the mathematical performance of the students favors the adjustment and individualization of the educational processes for this area of learning. Due to its relevance in daily life, the teacher must bear in mind the functionality and transfer of mathematical learning. The generalization of research that combines theory and practice is essential. In this sense, there are few studies at the curriculum level for mathematics related to the education of gifted and/or mathematically talented students. Thus, it becomes pertinent to analyze such mathematical skills and the factors in which these students stand out. The purpose of this study is to analyze the types of mathematical reasoning and representations based on problem-solving tasks expressed by gifted students on an educational level with a good performance in the area of Mathematics. Forty-two students were evaluated as g...

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble prohormone that is not only important for bone mineral metabolism, but also plays a crucial role in various physiological functions essential for general health, due to its specific receptor present in almost all cells. Among its beneficial effects are the improvement of the immune response, insulin secretion and the prevention of certain tumor processes. However, hypovitaminosis D is highly prevalent in Latin America and in Ecuador the presence of this problem has been confirmed in a large part of the population, especially in adult women. Objective: to evaluate the prevalence of hypovitaminosis D in women between 35 and 50 years old who work at the National University of Loja. In addition, the results obtained were related to age ranges and the possible relationship with the body mass index of the patients was evaluated. Methodology: quantitative, non-experim...
