A health technology assessment (HTA) was carried out to critically analyze the evidence on the efficacy and safety of the surgical correction of spinal deformities using the coplanar technique, compared to the conventional derotation techniques, in children, adolescents and adults. A systematic search of the literature was carried out in the PubMed, Cochrane Library and LILACS databases. In addition, a manual search was carried out in the reference lists of the included studies, on Google and on the websites of specialized societies and groups that produce clinical practice guidelines (CPG) and HTA. In addition, we searched ClinicalTrials.gov and the International Clinical Trial Registry Platform (ICTRP) for clinical trial records in progress or not completed. Five documents were selected for evaluation, including two CPG, a randomized clinical trial, and two observational studies. After...

Objectives: The aim of this article was to investigate the pathogen Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (A. actinomycetemcomitans) and identify it by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Materials and methods: The alkaline lysis technique was used for DNA extraction, and a segment of the 16S rRNA gene of A. actinomycetemcomitans was amplified by PCR and specific primers. The specificity of the primers was tested using genetic material extracted from the reference strain A. actinomycetemcomitans ATCC 33384, against other strains. Results: This pathogen was investigated in detail and A. actinomycetemcomitans was identified by means of specific primers. Conclusions: A sensitive and specific technique for the detection of A. actinomycetemcomitans was obtained by conventional PCR.

The Meek technique is useful in patients with limited donor sites. It is a relatively efficient technique due to its ability to expand the skin up to nine times its original size. Scarring was assessed using two tissue expansion techniques, i.e. the Meek technique and the conventional mesh technique, which achieved an expansion ratio of 1:3. It should be noted that, with advances in bioengineering, the Meek technique is integrated as a complete method for autografting.1,2 We present the case of a 34-year-old male patient with a polymicrobial infectious disease called "necrotizing fasciitis". He had lost tissues of the thorax, abdomen and inguinal-perineal region, affecting 14% of his total body surface area. A qualitative assessment using the Vancouver scale and the Patient Objective Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS) showed better scarring results with the Meek technique.

The recognition of people who lose their lives in natural disasters or accidents are complicated when the victims are total edentulous, therefore, the need to look for new forms of identification that are reliable and easy to be implemented. Taking into account this premise, a search of the information in the literature was carried out in order to demonstrate that the marking of dental prostheses is important in the recognition of people and that they can be implemented by the government of Peru. For which three marking techniques were chosen: QR code, Digital cards and Incorporation of metal band. A rigorous selection procedure of the information was carried out in the databases, Pubmed, Scielo and VHL (Virtual Health Library), with articles published between 2012-2019, in Spanish and English. 105 articles were found of which only 18 of them were chosen, which met the inclusion criteria...

Objectives: Compare the degree of apical microleakage using three filling techniques: lateral condensa-tion, single cone and a new proposed technique. Materials and method: 36 teeth were prepared with rotary files Mtwo until Nº. 40 / .04 and then be randomly selected using three obturation techniques (G1: lateral condensation technique, G2: single cone; G3: new proposed technique). Subsequently, the teeth are varnished exposing the apical 4mm, dipped in ink and those undergoing the decalcification process following the Protocol of Roberston and measured seepage through a stereoscopic microscope. Comparisons were made with the Kruskal Wallis test. Results: The new proposed technique had a lower rate of microfiltration comparing the lateral condensation technique and single cone. No statistically significant differences between the three obturation techniques. Conclusions: The apical micr...

Failed back surgery syndrome is a postsurgical phenomenon that involves persistent low back pain following one or more spinal surgeries. The multidisciplinary approach to its management includes both conservative and surgical treatments. Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) has stood out as a surgical option for refractory pain. We present five cases of patients with failed back surgery syndrome treated with ALIF. These patients demonstrated reduced pain scale scores and significant improvement in functional capacity after the application of the abovementioned technique, suggesting its effectiveness in this group of patients who are refractory to conservative treatments. It should be noted that previous studies supporting the usefulness of ALIF mention the importance of careful patient screening, considering both preoperative factors (pain pathophysiology and accurate assessment of th...

Monogeneans encompass a group of parasites whose identification requires the visualization of both internal and external morphology. In most cases, the techniques involve many steps and the use of restricted substances, in addition to the necessity of protective equipment. Faure’s mounting medium, an aqueous medium similar to Hoyer’s mounting medium, has already been used for the preparation of the group. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Faure’s medium for the mounting of stained specimens. For this purpose, specimens of Microcotyle pomatomi Goto, 1900 and Gotocotyla acanthura (Parona & Perugia, 1896) Meserve, 1938, collected from Pomatomus saltatrix (Linnaeus, 1766) in the southernmost part of Brazil were used. The monogeneans were stained with five different dyes and mounted between a slide and coverslip using Faure’s mounting medium. The specimens...

Modern studies have shown that mirrow neurons are involved in the development of social empathy and language. Consequently, deficiency in mirror neural networks response could be one of the dysfunctions present in autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), as a phenotypic functional expression of channelopathies in some brain regions.Early detection of deficiencies in mirror neural network systems could allow more efficient applications of behavioral therapies in patients with ASD. The detection of MU waves in the electroencephalogram (EEG) could be an interesting technique that refers to the functioning of these neural networks. In this article we present a simple technique, developed with the purpose of identifying the presence of MU waves in the EEG record. It consists of a processing that analyzes each one of the derivations of the EEG, with the implementation of a mathematical method. The sig...

The present study aimed to compare the endometrial cytological results obtained using the cytobrush and low volume lavage in Colombian Creole mares. In total, 90 mares with a clinical history of endometritis were used. The results of the cytological samples were compared under the variables of identification of the leukocyte reaction, type of leukocyte reaction, presentation of polymorphonuclear and mononuclear cells, presentation of bacteria, hyphae and cellular changes. A leukocyte reaction was found in 100% (90/90) of the cases with the cytobrush and in 93.9% (79/90) for the low volumen lavage (p=0.0031). The result of the presentation of polymorphonuclear cells was similar between the two techniques; however, the presence of mononuclear cells was more effective with the low-volume lavage technique. The finding of hyphae was 5.4% (6/90) with the cytobrush technique and 3.6 (4/90) with...

The objective of this paper is to examine the principle of systematicity as a criterion of an adequate legislative technique in criminal matters, regarding the norms that regulate nuclear crimes of vehicular traffic in Chile. The analysis focuses on the rule that establishes the effective enforcement of the custodial sentences imposed on some of these crimes, which breaks with the system of crimes regulated in Chile, that is generally based on another class of criminal reactions. The study uses fundamentally a dogmatic methodology and a recourse to legal, jurisprudential and doctrinal sources. Among its results, the article highlights the relevance that the principle of systematicity has for the creation of criminal laws, either as such or in relation to other principles of law, like equality before the law, proportionality or certainty. It also concludes that the violation of the princi...

The quality of a research work depends, mainly, on the adequate choice of the design and development of the techniques, as well as the instruments that will be used. Once the identification of the problem, the determination of the variables and the conceptualization have been carried out, it will proceed to its decomposition into dimensions, indicators and items, a fundamental activity to find its essence. This item construction procedure requires cognitive domain of the categories to be used; For this, it is necessary to create a theoretical framework, based on existing documentation. Then proceed with the design and development of the instrument, which will necessarily go through an assessment process to determine its construct validity, content, item analysis, confirmatory analysis, and reliability. The instruments generally respond to the type, level and design of the investigation, ...
