The case of a 15-year-old Colombian equine female, which is presented due to trauma consultation in the medial aspect of the left hind limb is reported. Severe synovial effusion is evidenced with increase in temperature and pain to the touch. An arthrocentesis is performed obtaining hemorrhagic articular fluid. In the radiological evaluation, an increase in the volume and radiopacity of the synovial fluid was observed, and the ultrasound diagnosis revealed an increase in the thickness of the articular capsule, with abundant joint effusion, a heterogeneous-looking fluid and the presence of echogenic bands compatible with fibrin. The therapy consisted in the joint lavage and infiltration with gentamicin, whereas the pain and oedema were treated via systemic.

The case of a 4-year-old criollo female equine which was presented for consultation with a severe increase in the level of the right tarsus and a history of trauma in the tarsal region of the right posterior limb is reported. Severe joint swelling with pain to the touch was evident. Arthrocentesis was performed and haemorrhagic and cloudy joint fluid was obtained, which in the cytological examination showed a moderate leukocyte reaction with a predominance of polymorphonuclear cells. At the radiological evaluation, bone proliferation and periodic reaction, reduction of joint space and lytic areas were observed. In the ultrasound evaluation there was an increase in the size of the joint capsule, a marked increase in the size of the synovial membrane, a severe decrease in joint fluid and the presence of fibrin bands. The therapeutic approach is performed through analgesics, joint lavage an...

This report presents the case of an 18-year-old Colombian creole mare with a history of subfertility, continuous and prolonged oestrous, uterine oedema categorized between 4 and 5, and moderate sized cysts present in the endometrial and myometrial layer. As a diagnostic plan, an endometrial culture, hysteroscopy, and a biopsy for histopathology were performed. Proteus mirabilis was found in the bacteriology culture. Hysteroscopy showed abundant cysts on the body and uterine horns. In histopathology, hyperplasia of the endometrial glands with fibrotic foci and mononuclear infiltrate was evident. Therapy with antibiotics, dimethyl sulfoxide DMSO and infusion of platelet-rich plasma did not improve her condition and the mare did not recover her reproductive function.

The present study aimed to compare the endometrial cytological results obtained using the cytobrush and low volume lavage in Colombian Creole mares. In total, 90 mares with a clinical history of endometritis were used. The results of the cytological samples were compared under the variables of identification of the leukocyte reaction, type of leukocyte reaction, presentation of polymorphonuclear and mononuclear cells, presentation of bacteria, hyphae and cellular changes. A leukocyte reaction was found in 100% (90/90) of the cases with the cytobrush and in 93.9% (79/90) for the low volumen lavage (p=0.0031). The result of the presentation of polymorphonuclear cells was similar between the two techniques; however, the presence of mononuclear cells was more effective with the low-volume lavage technique. The finding of hyphae was 5.4% (6/90) with the cytobrush technique and 3.6 (4/90) with...

The case of a Purebred Spanish Horse (PRE) patient, 4.5-year-old male who comes for consultation due to a historical increase of three months in the tarsal region of the left hind limb is reported. Based on the clinical examination and radiological and ultrasonographic evaluation, it was diagnosed with traumatic tenosynovitis of the tarsal synovial sheath. The horse was treated with intrasynovial application with steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, atropine sulfate and hyaluronic acid, in addition to synovial lavages with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) at intra-synovial level and physiotherapy based on laser and therapeutic ultrasound. The patient responded satisfactorily to the established treatment.

The case of a 4.5-year-old Colombian Creole female equine was brought to the clinic with suspected transverse and vertical comminuted fracture of the second phalanx in the right forelimb with three days of evolution. Upon clinical examination, claudication of the affected limb was observed, categorized as 4/5, presenting inflammation and swelling related to the coronary impeller. An orthogonal radiographic study was performed at the pastern level in the affected limb, finding a comminuted vertical fracture related to the dorsal aspect of the second phalanx and a transverse fracture in the palmar portion. It was decided to perform orthopedic surgery to reduce de fracture and to apply osteosynthesis material. The patient responded satisfactorily to surgical treatment. Orthopedic clinical follow-up was performed for two months, obtaining complete recovery of the patient.
