The cryoprotectant effect of two hypertonic extenders (trehalose and lactose) on the post-thawing characteristics of ram semen (n=4) was evaluated. The extender composition included Tris 27.1 g/l, Citric acid 14.0 g/l, Fructose 10.0 g/l, Glycine 10.0 g/l, egg yolk 10.0% (v/v) and Glycerol 6.5% (v/v). Semen was collected in an artificial vagina. Seminal characteristics were: volume: 1.1 ± 0.1 ml, sperm concentration: 3.50 ± 0.1 x 109/ml, individual motility: 87.0 ± 2.4%, wave motility (scale 0-5): 4.4 ± 0.2, live sperms: 90.2 ± 3.8%, and abnormal sperms: 1.8 ± 0.7%. Semen was frozen in 0.5 ml straws and stored in liquid nitrogen. Straws were thawed after 3 months. El estudio tuvo por objetivo evaluar el efecto de tres dilutores (Tris, Tes y leche descremada) en la criopreservación de espermatozoides obtenidos del epidídimo de alpaca. Previamente se determinó el efecto del tiempo entre el beneficio/castración y la recuperación de los espermatozoides del epidídimo. Se utilizaron 24 testículos de alpacas para la obtención de los espermatozoides directamente del epidídimo en una solución fisiológica buferada (PBS). La recuperación de espermatozoides se realizó a las 0, 35, 48 y 72 horas (6 testículos por grupo) y se evaluó la motilidad, concentración espermática e integridad funcional de membrana. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of three semen extenders (skim milk, Tris, and Tes) on cryopreservation of epididymal alpaca sperm. Previously, the effect of timespan since slaughtering or castration to the recovery of epididymal sperm was evaluated. Twenty-four alpaca testicles were used to obtain sperm from the epididymis in a buffered saline solution (PBS). The recovery of spermatozoa was performed at 0, 35, 48, and 72 hours (6 testes per group) after slaughtering or castration. Sperm motility, concentration, and sperm membrane functional integrity were analyzed. Sperm recovered after 35 hours was not usable for cryopreservation. The effect of glucose, fructose, trehalose, and sucrose, as components of the extender, was evaluated on canine sperm viability during refrigeration at 5 ºC. The spermatic fraction of 16 dog ejaculations were distributed in 5 aliquots containing an extender based on Tris – citric acid – egg yolk, but differing in the presence of one of the sugars, plus a control without sugar. The five treatments were evaluated after 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours of refrigeration in relation to progressive motility and functional integrity of the membrane by the hypoosmotic swelling test (HOS). El objetivo principal del presente trabajo de investigación fue utilizar prefermentos (masa madre) en la elaboración del pan de molde blanco, en tres diferentes dosis para alargar el tiempo de vida útil del producto (M1: 10% de prefermento, M2: 15% de prefermento y M3: 20% de prefermento). La evaluación de las diferentes dosis de aplicación de prefermento fue realizada y probada a nivel piloto en la línea de producción de pan de molde de una industria local. Thirty-two semen samples from four rams were frozed using two antioxidants, Tempo (2,2,6,6 tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxyl) and Tempol (4-hidroxi 2,2,6,6 tetramethyl-1- piperidinyloxyl), each one in concentrations of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.5 mM, to evaluate the effects on post-thawing motility, viability, acrosomal integrity, and earlier sperm capacitation. Eight replications for each antioxidant concentration and control group, were done using four semen samples per replication. Semen samples were diluted on a Tris extender. Results showed that Tempo 0.5 mM improved frozen semen quality in comparison with control group (p<0.05), by increasing progresive motility (79 vs. 67%), viability and acrosomal integrity (70 vs. 58%), and decreasing earlier sperm capacitation (9 vs. 15%). Con el propósito de evaluar el efecto de dos diluyentes seminales sobre la fertilidad potencial de espermatozoides caninos conservados a 4 ºC, se obtuvieron 20 eyaculados mediante manipulación digital. Cada eyaculado fue evaluado a través de espermiograma y de la prueba hipoosmótica (HOST), para luego ser fraccionado y diluido en relación 1:3 con uno de los siguientes diluyentes: yema de huevo + TRIS (EYT) (365 mOsm/kg, pH 6.8) y leche descremada fluida UHT (LD) (272 mOsm/kg, pH 6.8). Twenty canine ejaculates (2nd fraction) were obtained by digital manipulation with the purpose of evaluating the effect of two extenders on the preservation of canine spermatozoa stored at 4 °C. Each ejaculate was evaluated through a spermiogram and the hypo-osmotic swelling test (HOST). The ejaculates were fractioned and diluted in a rate of 1:3 using egg yolk + TRIS + glucose + antibiotic (EYT) (365 mOsm/kg, pH 6.8) and skimmed milk (0.5% fat, UHT-treated) + antibiotic (SM) (272 mOsm/kg, pH 6.8). Progressive motility (PM) was 95.7 ± 3.6% and the HOST response was 79.8 ± 6.6% in fresh semen. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el recubrimiento a base de harina de Amaranto (AF), montmorillonita y tres aceites esenciales (clavo, muña y matico) para extender la vida útil del mango mínimamente procesado. Los cubos de mango se dividieron en cuatro tratamientos diferentes. T1- control (mango sin recubrimiento), T2 (0.3% p/v de clavo), T3 (0.3% p/v de muña) y T4 (0.3% p/v de matico). Todos los tratamientos tenían 0.6% p/v de harina de Amaranto y 0.02% p/v de montmorillonita (MMT) y se sometieron a 5°C durante 12 días.
