Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, shows mainly clinical manifestations at the respiratory level. It can affect, however, other organs and systems, including the central nervous system, generating neurological manifestations that include the Guillain Barré Syndrome (GBS). We present the cases of two male patients, aged 35 and 46, with GBS, one classified as AMAN and the other as AIDP. Both patients showed positive serology for SARS-CoV-2 and reported respiratory symptoms prior to the weakness condition. RT-PCR in pharyngeal secretion and CSF was negative in both cases. The infection by SARS-CoV-2 was confirmed by the total antibody test in serum through a positive CLIA immunoassay, positive for IgG in the two cases. The characteristics of the cases support a possible postinfectious relationship between SARS-CoV-2 and GBS, and open as well the possibilit...

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the virus causing the ongoing pandemic. In general, patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 develop respiratory diseases. The first symptoms are fever, cough and dyspnea that rapidly progress to pneumonia. Additionally, extrapulmonary manifestations, such as those in the gastrointestinal system, have been reported. It has been described that the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor and the transmembrane serine protease 2(TMPRSS2) for S protein priming favor SARS-CoV-2 entry into the cells. These proteins are expressed in alveolar type II cells as well as in ileum and colon enterocytes, thus detecting the virus in the digestive tract. We present the case of a patient with COVID-19 pneumonia and gastrointestinal findings such as pneumatosis intestinalis and ischemic colitis.

Introduction: Fewer COVID-19 cases and less lethality have been observed at high altitude compared to cases reported at sea level. There are currently no publications reporting clinical behavior of pregnant women with COVID-19 at high altitude. Methods: This is a retrospective study with review of medical records between March 6, 2020 and June 15, 2020. The first thirteen cases of pregnant women with COVID-19 who were attended at Simón Bolívar COVID-19 Hospital, located at 2750 meters above sea level, are described. The cases came from altitudes between 2 035 and 3 502 meters above sea level (masl). Statistical analysis used SPSS, version 19.0. Results: Thirteen cases of pregnant women with COVID-19 confirmed by IgM for SARS-CoV-2 were attended at 2 750 masl (9 022.31 feet) in the Peruvian Andes. Delivery by cesarean section occurred in eight cases (61.5%) and five (38.5%) delivered va...

It is relevant to elucidate a regrettable phenomenon within the armed conflict in Colombia: the illicit recruitment of children and adolescents, a situation that has plagued the Colombian territory for more than 60 years. This event occurs due to the non-compliance with the duty to protect the rights of children and adolescents by the State and the family, in accordance with the co-responsibility that exists between both institutions, which failed to watch over the rights of this specific population. In that regard, the main objective of this research is to determine the impact derived from the failure of the Colombian State and the family to protect the rights of children and adolescents, as a decisive factor in the forced recruitment by armed groups outside the law. Thus, the type of research is legal-dogmatic, the approach is qualitative, the techniques for data collection were the re...

Covid-19 disease shows many different manifestations, from common symptoms affecting both the upper and lower respiratory tract, and also sensorial alterations such as anosmia or taste perversion. Heart valve thrombosis and subsequent endocarditis are extremely rare manifestations and they have been scarcely described within the context of Covid-19. We present a case of a patient that was positive for SARS-Cov-2, who developed Staphylococcus hominis bacteremia. Afterwards, he developed persistent fever, and after ruling out some differential diagnoses, a diagnosis of infective endocarditis affecting a native healthy aortic valve was made, using cardiac ultrasonography. This occurrence was considered to be hospital-acquired.

Reports describing neurological manifestations in patients with COVID-19 have substantially increased in the past months. Nevertheless, findings from neuroimaging studies have been poorly documented because of restrictions due to the need for isolating such patients. Two cases of patients with COVID-19 and clinical neurological manifestations are reported. They underwent brain imaging studies and atypical findings were made in cerebral magnetic resonance imaging. It is necessary to have more detailed and better documented descriptions of neurological manifestations in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and their respective neuroimaging correlates in order to obtain better knowledge of this condition.

Background: We describe an 8-month-old boy with leukemia and SARS-CoV-2 infection who developed Kasabach-Merritt phenomenon. He had a positive SARS-COV-2 RT-PCR sample. Hematologic tests showed coagulopathy and intestinal involvement. She was managed in emergency receiving transfusion support and in hospitalization with social isolation measures, she started propanolol and corticotherapy as initial treatment of infantile angiomas. She presented with symptoms of intestinal obstruction and underwent surgery and evidence of hemorrhagic infarction with foci of intestinal ischemic necrosis, ending in ileostomy. We tried to understand a pathophysiological explanation of the dermatologic and gastrointestinal tract involvement by the virus and the atypical form of COVID-19. Given the emerging evidence of endothelial and vascular involvement in COVID-19, the development of tests to detect vascula...

In this work we study theoretically the ferromagnetic resonance in a spin-valve. For this purpose, we propose a phenomenological model for the density of Helmholtz free energy taking into account the magnetocrystalline anisotropy, shape anisotropy, interlayer exchange coupling and exchange bias. Considering this energy density we solve the Landau-Lifshitz equation in spherical coordinates and in the resonance condition. In this way, we obtain the dispersion relation and, as a consequence, the frequency versus the resonance field. These results are in good agreement with the literature. Additionally, we apply the model to the IrMn/Co/Ru/NiFe system and study the magnetic coupling interlayers, where the non-magnetic layer (Ru) has a thickness of 3.2 nm. The results indicate the existence of an antiferromagnetic coupling with a strength of couping of Jbl + 2Jbc = −4.3 erg/cm2.

This article addresses the case model for the Live art exhibition project Venice International Performance Art Week, founded and curated by artist duo VestAndPage (Verena Stenke and Andrea Pagnes) in 2012. Since its inception, it has promoted performance art and Live art practices on a local, national, and international scale through live performance events, exhibitions, formative learning programs, and co-creation experiences. Founded on the principles of sustainability, hospitality, and care, it has become a recognized international platform where dialogue and exchange, artistic expressions and cultures can flourish proactively among performers. The project formats have evolved over the time, progressively focusing on forming temporary performance artist communities in terms of a social sculpture. Its core mission is to foster exchange among performers, Live artists, and peop...
