The aim of this study was to evaluate the cryopreservation of Brycon henni semen using three programmable freezing curves and two permeable cryoprotectants. Semen of 80 males were diluted in medium supplemented with ethylene glycol (EG) or dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), and cryopreserved in semen straws using three programmable freezing curves: slow (66 min, -0.42 °C/min), medium (43.3 min, -0.6 °C/min) and ultra-rapid (7.7 min, -5.19 °C/min). After one month of storage, semen was thawed and motility was evaluated through a class analysis system (SCA®) and sperm vitality (EV) by fluorescence microscopy with SYBR14/IP probes. For statistical analysis, generalized linear models (GLM) were adjusted and means compared by the Tukey test. The medium and ultrarapid velocity curves showed higher and equivalent values for total motility, progressive motility, and linear velocity of sperm (p<0.0...

In this paper a summary of research conducted by the Institute of Biochemistry and Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine of Lima regarding nutritional problems Peru is made. To this end there have been clinical, haematological and biochemical studies to identify deficiency states in groups of individuals from different economic classes, soldiers, adults, children and seniors. Regarding calorie needs an applicable table shows the average weight in relation to age, obtained from national surveys. Protein deficiencies, the solution would be in the highest consumption of fish are detected. Referring to the lack of calcium in the diets is shown that by the constant action of the solar rays properly manage groups examined using the poor contribution. Alkaline phosphatase determinations reveal absence of rickets. A high percentage of anemia in the jungle due to high intestinal parasitism and overall d...

Paranthias colonus(Valenciennes, 1846) is used as fish bait replacing first class fish that have been overfished in the Gulf of California. Due to its recent commercial importance, the parasite fauna of P. colonusfrom of El Sargento, Baja California Sur, Mexico is characterized to define its role in the life cycle of its parasites. 30 fishes were fixed in 4% formaldehyde for later examination. Helminths and copepods were treated with conventional techniques specific to each kind of parasite. P. colonushad 100% prevalence and 46.5 mean intensity of parasites. Adults of Pseudorhabdosynochus sp., Prodistomum orientalis, Brachyphallus sp., Lecithochirium sp., Spinitectus sp., Caligus sp., Pandaridae, and Hatschekia sp. and larevae of Tetragonocephalidae, Scolex pleuronectis and Anisakis sp. were found. There was evidence of host specificity of Pseudorhabdosynochussp. and Hatschekiasp. by ser...

Mr. Editor We have read with special attention and interest the article by Condemayta et al (2018), where they present the results of an epidemiological study on the prevalence of infection by the intestinal parasite "Balantidium coli" and the risk factors associated with its transmission. in humans and pigs in two populations of the Acora District, province and Department of Puno, Peru. In general, we agree with the content of the article. However, we wish to comment on the taxonomic and systematic status of "Balantidium coli", and the corresponding nomenclature of the enteroparasitic disease it causes, which we consider require updating in light of the new evidence and findings presented in the scientific literature of the area, especially those of the molecular type. In this sense, it should first be indicated that the genus Balantidium belongs to the Phylum Ciliophora (Class Litostom...
