The integrative approach to care for patients demands training to evaluate frequent chronic problems in the outpatient clinic. Patients with hypertension, diabetes mellitus and asthma can be approach using models of evaluations such as the TOPIC that allows to order the evaluations in a structured sequence of four mayor tasks: processing of the information, development of an adequate physician-patient-family relationship and integrating information and learning for life. Processing information implies four sub-activities in which we evaluate patient´s expectations and concerns, severity and control of conditions, adherence and side effects of treatments focusing on damage to target organs and comorbidities. Applying this model can help physicians and their patients to be more efficient in managing chronic problems considering the short time available for ambulatory care.

The objective of this investigation is to improve the administrative management of Veterinary Animal Care, based on the use of a web system, where the processes of care registration, obtaining information from the medical records of pets and the level of satisfaction of users who used the web system were basically evaluated. In principle, we were able to detect that the first processes were slow and caused discomfort among the administrative staff in front of the clients; therefore, we suggest using a web system to solve these problems. We pose the following research question: With the use of a web system, is the administrative management of the Animal Care veterinary clinic improved? To evaluate, a quasi-experimental type design was chosen with a post test and a control group, with a non-probabilistic sample, made up of thirty (30) customer service processes. Obtaining the following res...

For nursing professionals, care planning is important if they want to obtain favorable results for the people they care for, which is why when generating care planning, they should reflect on the subjective aspects that allow the person to visualize the world and that result in the generation of actions or behaviors that favor or harm their health, otherwise the effectiveness of care interventions could be short-lived or short-lived. This situation is what has motivated the creation of this brief consideration of what subjectivity is and how it constitutes the human being as a being in order to understand its implications in health-disease processes.

patient care. There have been many efforts to achieve this goal over the last couple of decades. Since the publication of the book “To err is human”, there have been multiple endeavors to avoid adverse events in the patient. In this sense, the challenge is how to achieve this goal, given that delivery care is one of the processes with the most adverse events reported. Based on recommendations of WHO, we consider an approach consisting of: a) Health systems: safety culture, a milestone in this process, requires changes in the organization and is a critical issue to be solved; (b) Health professionals: not only involves physicians but also the health organization system from a medical perspective; people must not only have medical training but should also be specialized and constantly updating; challenges are different if it is a trainee or a medical specialist. There are ways to achie...

The problem of safe obstetrical care has special relevance in recent years due to the interest of health professionals in reducing adverse events and improving healthcare. However, this is pursued in complex, uncertain and variable scenarios and risks, where human behavior may increase the probability of error. We often have to make short term decisions when attending two patients simultaneously – mother and fetus-, and the mother expects a deferential treatment during pregnancy, delivery and the puerperium. These processes involve multiple activities and tasks, and failures may occur. Faced with the paradigm change of involving the patient in the care and decision making process, we have to provide them with the most complete evidence, to avoid contingencies and to obtain the best possible results.

Trauma has now become a pandemic with a severe social en economical impact upon society. High morbidity and mortality rates; and especially the high costs of frequent permanent sequels of trauma, put pressure on healthcare systems for facing this condition using a multidisciplinary approach, looking for minimizing damage using multiple strategies. In this respect, healthcare systems must be adequately organized as well as all the processes in order to achieve good outcomes when taking care of polytraumatized patients; consequently, healthcare teams must be adequately prepared, always looking for continuous training and updating with respect to initial management of these patients, since, according to many studies, mortality rates reach the highest values during the first hour after the event, and 25% of deceases occur because of an inadequate management.

The Primary Health Care strategy introduced concepts which sought to revolutionize the way how to achieve Health for All at the global level. The Declaration of Alma Ata was a prelude to initiatives and global plans that sought compromise to States and society in achieving access to health equity. The Summit of Action for Children and the Meeting of the Millennium, which agreed health targets to achieve by year 2015 were inspired by the concepts included in Primary Health Care. While it is true that the purposes lying below the postulates in Alma Ata were not reached, there was remarkable progress in aspects related to the Mother and Child Health. The Selective Primary Healthcare inspired the so-called “Revolution for the Child Survival”, which identified the main causes of the 15 million deaths in children recorded at the global level at the beginning of the Decade of the eighties o...

This article analyzes the multiple oppressions in the care work and in the circular migration of Bolivian women in the north of Chile. The analysis focuses on the intersectional approach, as it further stresses and deepens the field of analysis of circular migration in cross-border areas, where social inequalities, substantially social class and race, tend to be legitimized and consolidated. Here findings emerge for the specific case, related to migratory status, racialization and sexualization in the international division of labor. To think about these processes, intersectionality operates as a critical framework for the global structures and power relations that produce and reproduce the relations of inequality that affect Bolivian migrant women.

The preparation of an intestinal elimination stoma implies a change in the body image and functioning of a person who, as a consequence, must relearn self-care in terms of elimination, whose behavior was learned since childhood. The aim of this trial is to analyze in depth whether learning is a determining factor or an instrumental means for the conscious (re)construction of self-care in patients with intestinal elimination stomas. For the analysis, the assumptions of Dorothea Orem's theory have been taken as a reference, who points out that self-care is a system of human self-regulation that requires the stimulation of cognitive behavioral processes through participatory learning. Likewise, it is postulated that each person learns at an individualized pace since this ability is determined by emotional intelligence, which we will have for the learning of practical skills. The loss of sel...

Objective: To explain the investment in health in times of COVID-19 and its impact on nursing care. Conclusion: Investment in health in times of COVID-19 was not sufficient to address the health crisis, due to the complex processes that configured the purchase of equipment, sup...

In outpatient consultations, physicians utilize tools to optimize time and enhance their clinical interviewing skills, as these interactions can be complex (e.g., new problems, chronic conditions, mental health issues). New problems can be addressed using the TOPIC model (Tasks Oriented to Outpatient Care Processes), which sets standardized tasks and processes to identify needs in this type of visit. This article describes this tool.

This article put together information about the formation of the warao self-care practices, exposing the centrality of shamanism in the processes of health and illness. The reflection is built from the context of coping with the COVID-19 pandemic in indigenous shelters in Manaus (Amazonas), between March and December of 2020. These actions not only systematically disregarded shamanism and native theories, but also produced strong control over the presence of these indigenous people in the city. Through a critical analysis of the situation in the Amazonian capital, it reflects on the need for adaptation in health care for the Warao in Brazil and, by extension, for other indigenous people, especially those residing in urban contexts. The data presented were obtained through fieldwork with an ethnographic perspective, in addition to documentary and bibliographical research.

In this article we address the issue of care rights in Latin America, specifically in Argentina and Mexico, focusing in particular on the legislative processes related to comprehensive care systems at the sub-national and national levels. We draw on the cases of Mexico City (2018-2019) and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (2019) as well as the national level in each country, where there are ongoing legislative initiatives (2020). We take a comparative socio-historical and gender approach to show the social and political dynamics involved in the legislative processes that lead to the recognition of the rights of caregivers and the cared for in each case, at the subnational levels of the capital cities and the national level of both countries. Our categories of analysis are: the social conditions of gender violence; the social and political actors that participate in the construction of...
