Small-scale fishing, such as that of the Tahuayo river basin (CRT) has been little studied despite its importance as a protein supply for the region. This article presents the fisheries' main ecological features in the CRT based on of an analysis of fish landings. Between August 2016 and July 2017, the richness and composition of species, biomass and catches per unit of effort (CPUE) were evaluated, by hydrological periods, aquatic environments and communities. The captures presented 62 species, grouped into 23 families and 7 orders, with the Pimelodidae family being the most diverse (12 species). Species richness was very similar between hydrological periods and between aquatic environments. The total landing amounted to 13,805.38 kg, where 17 species represented 80.5% of the biomass. More than 50% of the biomass was landed in periods of...

In this work, maximum flows observed in the Paranapanema river basin are modeled by a mixture of two GEV distributions whose components correspond to the summer and winter subpopulations. The nonlinear discriminant function allowed to confirm the assumption of mixture model. The proposed model is then used to determine probabilities of exceedance and return periods associated with extreme flows, which are of fundamental importance for hydraulic projects. The results show significant differences when a mixture model is used and therefore an approach more coherent with the observed data.

Local development from a basin perspective: the case of the Zaña valley basin” aims to describe the implementation of policies in the management of local development in the districts located in the Zaña valley basin. The central problem of our research is Is there in the local development management in the districts located in the Zaña Valley Basin a basin conception that is based on the rational use of natural resources, the development of social capital with identity and the sustainability of the environment? The object of study are the 8 districts that are located within the Zaña valley basin. It was determined that in the management of local development in the districts of the Zaña valley basin there is no basin approach. The public policies of the central government, regional and local governments are centralist and limit the spaces for participation of social actors. The nee...

The Pacific Basin is considered one of the most important and dynamic geographic spaces on the planet. Made up of the main hegemonic powers and both developed and emerging economies, it is consolidated as an important geoeconomic source for its members. Through a rigorous analysis of academic sources, this article will address the reasons on which its importance is based, which are the main international organizations that have been created in said region - with special attention to APEC and the Pacific Alliance - as well as recommendations for the projection of Peruvian foreign policy in this area.

The article presents a methodological proposal for assessing water sustainability in river basins using the Water Sustainability Index (WSI) and its application in the river basins of Chili, Caplina, Chancay-Lambayeque, and Urubamba, as well as at the national level in Peru, for the period 2012-2021. The WSI consists of three sub-indices based on the components of sustainable development: economic (SiE), social (SiS), and environmental (SiA). The WSI rating scale ranges from 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest). Intrinsic and extrinsic indicators, both economic, social, and environmental, were selected. The results show that, both at the basin level and nationally, the social component performs best. However, significant challenges remain in the environmental component (Caplina and Chili river basins) and the economic component (Chancay-Lambayeque, Chili, Urubamba river basins, and national level...

In the Cañete River Basin, a glacial retreat has been observed for more than 37 years. Based on aerial photographs for the years 1962 and 1970, and using Landsat images from the 1990 - 2015 period, the glacier surface of the Collquepucre, Llongote, Pariacaca and Ticcla snowfalls has decreased by 2 to 7 km2, for every 5 years; a situation that is related to the dynamics of tropical glaciers where various sources indicate that they are the most fragile ecosystems in the face of climate change.

The present work documents the diversity of mammals in the headwaters of the Apurímac river, one of the most important information gaps in Peru, based on an evaluation of fi ve sampling areas in the departments of Apurímac (Cconoc, Velavelayoc), Ayacucho (Yanamonte, Ccentabamba) and Cuzco (Catarata). Capture’s effort was 1280 trap-nights and 41 mistnet-nights. Sixty species were recorded in the study area and included 15 threatened species and four species endemic to Perú. As expected, bats and rodents were the most diverse orders (66,7 %). The species diversity in the sites sampled declines signifi cantly with elevation from the lowest elevation sites (Ccentabamba and Catarata) to the highest (Velavelayoc). The marsupial Monodelphis peruviana and the Dwarf Brocket deer Mazama chunyi are fifi rst records for the department of Ayacucho. The bats Artibeus planirostris and Myotis keays...

This work focuses on the calculation and validation of the parameters used for the generation of flows of maximum avenues along 16 points of interest in the main channel of the Biabo river. Due to insufficient information from meteorological and hydrometric measurements within the basin, the daily precipitation grid information from the PISCO database v2.1 of SENAMHI was used, the model of frequency duration curves from the ILLA-SENAMHI-UNI study, and the Snyder unit hydrograph, and the results obtained were calibrated based on the records of maximum flows from the Requena-Biabo hydrometric station. Thus, for example, for the Requena-Biabo station basin, the comparison between the flows of maximum floods generated with the flows recorded in for different return times, the error obtained fluctuates between ± 5%.

This report contains information related to the diversity and hunting impact of the primates, as well as the potential threats for the populations that inhabit the upper Itaya river basin. It is based on census by transect and hunting records carried out in six communities. During the census 384 groups belonging to 9 were observed of the 11 species that inhabit the study area. Most records corresponded to Saddle-back tamarin (Saguinus fuscicollis Spix) with 25,3%, saki monkey (Pithecia aequatorialis Hershkovitz) with 20,6% and woolly monky (Lagothrix poeppigii Humboldt) with 15,9%. Population density was estimated for nine species, being the squirrel monkey (Saimiri sciureus Linnaeus) the most abundant with 18,2 individuals/km2, followed by woolly monkey (L. Poeppigii) with 15,5 individuals/km2 and saddle-back tamarin (S. fuscicollis) with 10,5 individuos/km2; the opposite occured in red...

Forearc basins are important archives for understanding the tectonic evolution of the plate margin and subduction zone through deep time because they preserve a tectonostratigraphic record of temporal and spatial interactions of eustasy, sediment supply, climate, basin physiography and tectonism. However, forearc basins have received less attention than rift and foreland basins, due to the limited number of exposed examples and classification traditionally restricted to accretionary margins. The Talara Basin in the northern Peruvian forearc, where the oceanic Nazca plate is being subducted beneath the continental South American plate, is a well-known example of a subduction-erosion margin, where the edge of the continental plate is consumed over time and accretionary processes play a minor role. From the Late Cretaceous to the Eocene, stratigraphic units from deep water to fluvial enviro...

This report deals with paca sleeping dens (Cuniculus paca Linnaeus, 1766). The study was conducted between August 2006 and April 2007 and is based on detailed observations. Results indicate that this rodent uses holes in the ground or in fallen trees as sleeping dens. Each of these sleeping dens had two or more orifices and an internal cavity for the "diurnal sleep”. Typically, one orifice was for common use and the rest for the circumstantial escape. According to their form, their localization in the ground, and the number and location of orifices, sleeping dens were classified into four types, of which type A was the most common. The results also indicate a greater concentration of sleeping dens in temporary flooded gallery forest.
