Ocean waves contain the highest energy density among renewable energy sources. However, harnessing the energy from ocean waves represents a challenge because wave energy converters (WECs) must be designed to have great survivability and efficiency. The power production challenge of any WEC depends on the power take-off (PTO) system efficiency. Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms have been widely applied in renewable energy from photovoltaic and wind sources, and have subsequently been adapted to wave energy converters (WECs). Energy extraction is optimized by applying MPPT, resulting in an increase in efficiency. This study aims to address the analysis of the influence of the perturb and observe MPPT in the electrical power performance of a WEC composed of a point absorber, a hinged arm and a direct mechanical drive PTO system. The PTO is characterized by a pulley system, a co...

Computational simulation has played a relevant role in basics sciences as physics, also in applied sciences and engineering. Despite of the fact that the simulation topics might be relevant, most of them are not explicitly proposed as an independent course. For example in physics program the simulation has been part of the cap stone project and last year courses. The idea fundamental of making a computational simulation is that of anticipating the expected results of experiments, or also to test theoretical formalisms by which is expected novel results. In this paper, we analyze the capabilities of the simulation in courses like antennas which is a course of third and fourth year of the program of electrical engineering. Indeed, we provide through one example that the combination of new theories and simulation can provide novel techniques applied to nanomedicine inside the program of bio...

Background Arboviral diseases are one of the most common causes of acute febrile illness (AFI) and a significant health problem in South America. In Peru, laboratory etiologic identification of these infections occurs in less than 50% of cases, leading to underdiagnoses of important emerging arboviruses. Aim To assess the prevalence of the Dengue (DENV), Oropouche (OROV), Chikungunya (CHIKV), Mayaro (MAYV) and Zika (ZIKV) viruses in patients with acute febrile illness from Puerto Maldonado (Peru). Methodology Serum samples were obtained from patients with AFI during January 2016 to March 2016. A total of 139 specimens were analyzed for the presence of DENV, OROV, CHIKV, MAYV, and ZIKV using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results CHIKV in 9.4% and OROV in 8.6% were the most prevalent arboviruses, followed by DENV and ZIKV, with a prevalence of 6.5% and 5%, respectively. Among all patien...

The essay shown below deals with a very general topic such as didactics in Higher Education. Its fundamental objective is aimed at analyzing its didactic principles and some elements of the university's teaching-learning process with the new paradigms that are being imposed on a global level, which in turn rely on various sources of notable theorists that have evolved as makes society. The method rested on the review and analysis of different theoretical sources of a documentary nature and their relationship with the subject, which at the same time appear in the references. In it, no rigid schemes have been drawn nor formulas are provided when dealing with specifically qualitative elements, however, some suggestions are offered that directly link the so-called Knowledge Society with the necessary didactic changes that require active ways so that the student becomes an actor and creator o...

Purpose: This paper measures different market risk impacts on options portfolios under the new Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) regulation, issued in Basel and coming into effect in 2023. Design/methodology/approach. This paper first suggests an algorithm for implementing the FRTB standardised approach via the sensitivities-based method to estimate a portfolio's risk capital and presents an illustration applied to an option position. Second, it proposes a methodology to estimate the expected shortfall in options portfolios from the FRTB internal models approach. In this regard, an application is developed to measure expected shortfall (ES) and value at risk (VaR) impacts under FRTB versus conventional VaR in a currency option position by considering stress scenarios from the 2007–9 and 2020–1 crises and back-testing procedures. Findings: The suggested algorithm satisfact...

Recurrent flooding in the mining works, deficiencies in the operation of pumps, unforeseen stoppages, and lack of water availability in the processes, affect the operations in the subway mine. The traditional solution adopted is to wait for maintenance times for its post evacuation, generating stoppages, consumption of water from the wells and inefficiency in the daily water demand. Therefore, this article presents a new approach that will expand the traditional methods by introducing a prediction model using probabilistic methods. This approach will allow the design of an optimal water distribution system, the efficient control in the maintenance and covering of the recirculated water demand inside the mine. Variables describing problems related to pump flow, pressure zoning and the type of pump distribution, either in series or in parallel in the pumping system, will be determined. Als...

The brief God Mysticism Scale (GMS-B) is a 12-item scale that assesses the perception of God mysticism. The study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the GMS-B. The sample consisted of 421 young Peruvians from the city of Lima with a mean age of 26.76 years, recruited by convenience sampling using a snowball method. Construct validity, internal consistency reliability, difficulty and discrimination indices of the items, and measurement invariance across sex of the GMS-B were evaluated using procedures derived from classical test theory and item response theory. A confirmatory factor analysis suggested that the original model of two correlated factors did not show adequate fit indices. For this reason, after testing a set of factorial models, it was determined that a brief model of five items written in a positive manner (GMS-5) presented the best fit. ...

The commercial sector in Peru has a sustainable growth over time, playing an important role and projecting an average growth of 3% by 2025. For this reason, commercial companies must be in constant development to be able to meet new market demands and solve new problems. In this sense, it is crucial to identify the main causes of the problems, such as the low level of order fulfillment, which is directly related to disorganization and suboptimal distributions in the warehouse, as well as high waiting times to serve customers. This research develops an improvement proposal model based on three tools (5S, ABC Method and SLP) which has as its main objective to improve the level of order fulfillment in commercial companies, in order to improve the standard time and obsolescence. The results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of the model by increasing the order fulfillment level from 78....

We present a new empirical approach for identifying sub-centers within urban areas and apply it to the São Paulo metropolitan area (SPMA). We use geographically weighted regressions (GWR) to overcome the limitations presented by previous methods, which rely on previous knowledge of the employment distribution and use arbitrary threshold values and band sizes. We find three SBD in 2002 and only two in 2014, suggesting that SPMA is polycentric but presents only one business core that concentrates more than 90% of all employees working in an SBD. We apply the widely recognized method of McMillen and Smith (2003) to our database and compare the results. Our method is more conservative in identifying areas as sub-centers (SBD) and presents lower standard errors.

The sector of services provided to companies is in a constant search for continuous improvement mainly due to problems presented in the performance of processes, quality of service and time management. The latter is a fundamental piece since the shortest time is always sought in hiring new collaborators to have greater flexibility and maintain a good relationship with customers, achieving a better competitive advantage. Therefore, the integrated Lean-BPM service model is proposed, which aims to reduce the lead time of new employees that is currently 6.22 days generated by poor time management. The mentioned model uses the following tools: standardized work, visual management, business process management and Kanban board, which are adjusted to the identified problems according to the literature review. After applying the method, a 12.88 % reduction was obtained to maintain the efficiency ...
