Acid mine drainage (AMD) or acid rock drainage (ARD) refers to the effluents from coal and metal mines. AMD is a common phenomenon which occurs naturally as a process of rock weathering, but is increased in large scale due to human activities such as construction contracts (transportation corridors, dam build, etc.) and mining operations. This phenomenon denotes the acidic water that is produced during exposure of sulphide minerals (mainly pyrite) to air and water through a natural process, and creates sulphuric acid. AMD is a hazard to animals, aquatic life and human beings as it increases the acidity and dissolves metals. Preventing and treating AMD is an important issue in a mine site not only during operation life but also after the mine is abandoned.

The abattoirs are productive spaces with a significant impact on the environment and public health, due to the nature of the raw material and the waste generated during the processes. That is why the purpose of this work is to develop a categorization of the environmental impact of the waste generated in the slaughterhouses, to propose mitigation alternatives. This work is methodologically based on descriptive, explanatory, and sectional documentary research. Likewise, the Agricultural sector has a Solid Waste Management Regulation approved by supreme decree No. 016-2012-AG (MINAGRI, 2012), however, the adequacy of said standard is necessary, as indicated in the fifth final supplementary provision of Supreme Decree No. 014-2017-MINAM (MINAM, 2017), decree approving the Regulations of Legislative Decree No. 1278, Law on Comprehensive Solid Waste Management (MINAM, 2017). The results obtai...

Technological progress develops industrial processes that impact the environment with the generation of waste. In the Mantaro river basin, the waters are contaminated by mining and surrounding populations. The National Water Authority (ANA) reports that at point RMant 12 an increase in manganese values is observed in its waters. at 200m Upstream is the intake of the agricultural irrigation channel left bank of the Mantaro Valley (RMBT), a reference point for the investigation. The objective of this study is to mitigate the manganese content with respect to the ECA 3 standards (0.20 mg/L). The investigation carried out in the laboratory demonstrated, in the case of synthetic water, a mitigation of 55% for the manganese content with the treatment of clinoptilolite-type zeolites. In the practice of the treatment carried out under the same conditions for the samples of water contaminated wit...

The formation of toxic compounds such as acrylamide (AA) and hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) during thermal food processing (>120 °C) represents a significant risk to human health, as they have been associated with neurotoxic, genotoxic, and carcinogenic effects. However, several studies have shown that polyphenols can reduce the levels of these toxic compounds. In this context, this review examines the potential of polyphenols to mitigate the formation of AA and HMF via distinct mechanisms during the Maillard reaction (MR). In general, these compounds interact with precursors and intermediates of the MR. Thus, polyphenols represent a natural and effective strategy for improving food safety, thereby promoting the development of healthier products. However, Future challenges remain, including the elucidation of the chemical mechanisms involved in the action of polyphenols, an in-depth stu...

The aim of this review is to address the issue of textile-origin microplastics and to provide possible solutions that can be propose through a scientific and development program. The constant expansion of textile production and consumption, driven by population growth and the ubiquity of fast fashion, has triggered environmental contamination resulting from the release of fiber fragments during the washing and use of clothing and household textiles. These fragments, ranging in size from 1 μm to 5 mm, pose a novel source of pollution that not only threatens the health of aquatic animals when ingested but also risks human food safety by infiltrating the food chain. Despite the growing awareness of the environmental impacts of these plastic microfibers (MP) from synthetic textiles, this study departs from conventional actions focused on mitigating microplastic pollution. Instead, it focuse...

This article describes how the simultaneous control with artificial intelligence in the “Vaso de leche” (glass of milk) Program will mitigate the irregularities found in the control operations after the exonerations of the selection processes, it was found that this affected the supply timing of the foods of the Program. These irregularities exist because the administrators of the municipalities are not aware that the “Vaso de leche” is the breakfast of the infants who live in extreme poverty and are not supervised in an appropriate timing management by the Bodies of the National Control System, and they see in this Program the opportunity to benefit, prior agreement with the suppliers. In view of this, this article proposes processes with artificial intelligence where Database Knowledge will host the norms´ structures related to the PVL. The facts about municipal official’s a...

The objective was to understand the training process in research as an academic practice, raising the need for strategies in the face of the weak habit of reading in training settings that allow us to respond to the crisis of interpretation of social problems. This reflection was raised from the phenomenological-hermeneutic method with a social-critical approach in a period of 2 years, training and accompanying 436 students with 145 proposals of formative research, collecting information through 5 semi-structured interviews with teachers and 50 student surveys. Therefore, this reflection is the starting point of a pedagogical proposal that promotes reading and critical reflection exercises. Consequently, the social sciences must formulate research routes that cross the curriculum, seeking in turn to guide and enhance the work of students in research procedures.

One of the most conflictive scenarios for criminal law and its punitive and preventive responses is found at the confluence of armed conflicts, being these an inexhaustible engine of production of regulated criminal acts, both nationally and internationally. The present work will focus its study on those crimes related to internal armed conflicts and on how we can reach a more comprehensive legal logic from a dogmatic criminal perspective derived from the theory of crime —more than a political response in amnesty—, specifically through assumptions of need, when providing a definitive resolution to a context of armed conflict, which requires unrestricted criminal solutions to the dialectical borders of each government in office.

Improved tools are required to deliver good information for decision-making on the potential socio-economic benefits of a transition to a low-carbon society. This article reports on modelling approaches to answer policy-relevant questions carried out research teams in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and South Africa. The teams link detailed models of sectors with economy-wide models and report methodological findings. Combining bottom-up and top-down models holds the promise of addressing short and long-term time-frames technological change, economy-wide interactions, direct costs, emissions reductions, and broader socio-economic implications of mitigation. While making different choices of models, common challenges were identified around: communication between the two models; treatment of time; convergence criteria; trade-offs between model accuracy and requirements of stakeholder process...

The study focuses on the design of the MK3 kiln as an eco-friendly solution to mitigate the pollution of (PM2.5 and PM10) generated by artisanal brick kilns. The MK3 kiln consists of three chambers constructed with construction and demolition waste (CDW), interconnected by lower ducts that aid in the continuous flow of heat and filter pollutants. Each kiln has a 5 cm opening in the dome to accommodate a copper industrial torch with a power of 1080 BTU/h, equivalent to 0.32 kW. Additionally, a 220V axial fan is installed in the chimney to supply the necessary air to the kilns through upper ducts, allowing complete combustion during the brick baking process. As a result, PM2.5 was measured at a quantity of 23 μg/m 3 , and PM10 emissions at 90 μg/m 3 , both of which do not exceed Environmental Quality Standards (ECA). Regarding the brick baking process, heat is recovered from the "combust...

The Acid drainages of underground Mines, are one of the main sources of contamination of superficial and underground waters therefore of environment. This phenomenon can remain for a long time if it does not take suitable measures as the passive treatment whose foundation are the processes physical, chemical and biological that takes place in the natural wetland in which the bacterial reduction of sulphates and the oxidation and hydrolysis catalyzed by bacteria, are the most important activities. The practical application are the aerobics wetlands and the artificial anaerobic wetlands, those that demonstrate to satisfactory results in the reduction of the amount of dissolved metals and the elevation of pH of the effluents and the sulphate diminution. This technology was investigated, studied and implemented in the United States, whose results have been very satisfactory in which they tal...
