Distance education at the present stage of development of the world educational practice has acquired a global character. The range of educational services has significantly expanded; the number of educational organizations and institutions involved in this form of education has increased; a huge number of students use the Internet, gadgets and high-tech services. It has influenced the development of the educational environment around the world. Effective distance education practices are those forms of distance learning that allow students and other students to receive “remote” education via the Internet, if necessary. Such a necessity today has become the epidemiological situation in the world with the spread of infection caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (2019-nCoV). The publication describes those practices that have proven to be effective. Their advantages and disadvantages ar...

Purpose: This study aims to propose and test a model of educational quality in marketing-management by incorporating resource-capability variables that are linked to learning outcomes for students and the competitive positioning of universities. Design/methodology/approach: Drawing on the resource-dependence theory, this study develops a comprehensive model for measuring educational quality. A sample comprising Spanish university teachers has been used to test the hypothesised relationships by using a two-stage least squares regression analysis while controlling for the possible effect of the public/private nature of the university. Findings: The results validate the model and show that educational capabilities are reliable variables for predicting the educational quality of marketing-management programmes at Spanish universities. Research limitations/implications: Similar to all educati...

The history of science has gone through various paradigms: from the empirical observation of natural phenomena and the theoretical formulation of laws to the computational simulation of complex systems. Today, we are immersed in what Jim Gray called the "fourth paradigm": data-intensive scientific discovery. In this new scenario, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science are not mere technical engineering tools; they have become the fundamental lens through which we interrogate reality. However, the dizzying advance of these technologies has brought with it an epistemological challenge: the gap between predictive capacity and scientific validity. In the race to optimize hyperparameters and reduce mean square error, it is often forgotten that an AI model, in a research context, is not just a software product, but a mathematically formalized hypothesis that must be tested, disproved, a...

In clinical research, assessing the association between two variables is a critical and fundamental task. Clinical studies aim to establish the effect size of the exposure to a variable on a given outcome. To measure this effect size, various statistical measures are used, among the most common are the prevalence ratio (PR), the relative risk (RR), the odds ratio (OR), the hazard ratio (HR), the incidence rate ratio (IRR), the attributable risk (AR), the number needed to treat (NNT), the mean difference (MD), and the linear regression coefficient (β). Each of these measures has its advantages and limitations, and their choice depends on the type of study and the nature of the data being analyzed. Therefore, it is important to understand the interpretation and use of each of them to perform an appropriate analysis. In this article, our goal is to explain in a practical way how to interpr...
