The present article report about the construct validity and internal reliability of the Self concept of Ability scale (Dayton, 1968), that measure the perception of the student's academicabilities in the school class, it based on the comparisons that make those against references external. Recently, the theoretical model proposed by Marsh and Craven (2002), on the self-concept academic based on the external references, it directs the objective of the present study, because to their direct relationship between this model and the instrument of Dayton. Applying a confirmatory factorial approach with correlated factors, in a sample of 97 students, the preliminary findings point out that the multidimensional model is fit appropriately to the data. The reliability of the subscales is quite good. Although these results suggest stability in the factorial solution, studies of cross-validation of ...

The present study evaluates the factorial structure, in the leve! of the subscales, of the Survey of Interpersonal Values (SIV), and the relationships among them, in a sample of adolescents between 15 and 17 years old of both sexes and from a private and public school, representative of low and middle socioeconomic Ievels. Although the SIV has been a widely used too!, there is no report of ah analysis of its factorial structure in Latín-American samples. By means of the principal components analysis and the factorial analysis with a confirmatory approach, bipolar relationships have been identified between Independence and Benevolence, and Support and Conformity. The confirmation of the pattem of interpersonal values proposed by L. V. Gordon was also accomplished. An aspect considered in the analysis may have artificially influenced the pattern of correlations among the componen...

The present study tried to find evidences of construct validity and interna! reliability for the Parenting Styles Scale of L. Steinberg. The instrument was applied in a sample of 224 adolescents from 11 to 19 years old from a public school of Lima. With a strategy of multiple group confirmatory factor analysis, the three-subscale structure (Commitment, Psychological Autonomy and Behavior Control/Supervision) was in general stable, although the theoretical grouping of the items was influenced by the distribution of the item. The alpha reliability reached marginal levels and the probable impact of the random error was recognized. Results show that this instrument is a potential too! for research, but these findings are preliminary and additional studies are required to evaluate the generalization of the analysis.

The present study reports the normative and psychometric information of DOT (form A and B), a brief measure of visuospatial organization relevant to applied research and clinical practice. A sample of 775 university adults participated, from Lima (Peru). The administra-tion of the test was done in groups, with standardized instructions. We found moderately high test-retest reliability; and the covariation with a fluid intelligence test was small but the-oretically consistent. The clinimetrics of the measurement error and the reliable change was adequate (minimum detectable change). The intra-group and between-group (American sample) differences revealed patterns of essentially consistent results, detecting a compara-tively greater effect of practice in the Peruvian sample. The implications of the results are discussed.

The present study explores the psychometric properties of the Parent Perception Inventory (Hazzard et al., 1983), instrument elaborated to describe, with a global approach, the parenting practices just as they are experienced and perceived by the own children. In a sample of 276 students from the 2do to the 6to degree of primary of a private school, the cluster analysis applied confirmed the internal structure of the inventory. On the other hand, the gender of the students as much as the school degree explained little variance in the differences in scores. These differences were, in general, not significant. On the other hand, regarding the psychometric propierties, (1) the analysis supported the validity of the assumed bi-dimensional structure; and (2) the reliability is acceptable.

The Parental Behavior Inventory (PBI) it is a recent self-report instrument designed to capture two independent global dimensions of the parental behavior mothers/fathers of preschool and younger students: Two studies were made to obtain evidences of the construct validity and internal dependability. Our first study had the goal of verifying the two constructos (construct validity); the results obtained using an confirmatory factorial analysis point out that both constructs can be identified in the sample of Peruvian evaluated mothers (n=115). The reliability to both subscales also is satisfactory. The second study it was made in 58 mothers, and we looked for extend the construct validity by means of the correlacional study of the PBI with emotional, couple’s relationship and demographic variables; the results suppo

The aim of this study is to validate the internal structure of the Revised-Study ProcessQuestionnaire-2 Factors (Biggs, Kember & Leung, 2001), through a heterogeneous sampleof 269 university and non-university participants. The structural equation methodology isused to test several measurement models: one-dimensional, four factors and hierarchicalstructure, and two factors (orthogonal and oblique).Theodels based on four factors did notshow a satisfactory adjustment, and one had convergence problems caused by a very highinterfactorial correlation. The two-factor model (deep and shallow) with correlated errorshad a satisfactory adjustment. The internal consistency was satisfactory. The usefulness ofthe instrument and its theoretical reformulation is discussed.

The content of the title of this special issue is sufficiently descriptive of what is expected: a content focus on educational and psychological assessment instrumentation and practices in the context of higher education. Psychoeducational assessment is generally understood as a comprehensive action focused on the specific context of education, with the ultimate goal of creating interventions matched to the needs of students (Isaacs et al., 2013). However, in the evaluation processes in higher education, aspects ranging from the admission process are also included, to continue with the student life cycle (Halpern & Butler, 2013). And thematically, educational assessment in general, and in higher education in particular, cannot be understood solely as a set of manuscripts for developing and adapting measures.

There are many studies on the relationship between academic self-efficacy and academic performance; however, there has not been a moderation analysis performed on the impact of carelessness/insufficient effort (C/IE) on the relationship between academic self-efficacy and perceived academic performance. A total of 731 adolescents school children (Lima, Peru) from a public educational institution participated. Two moderators were used, namely the sex and age of participants, and a sensitivity analysis was performed using both clean and dirty C/IE data. The prevalence of C/IE was 14.3% of the possible cases. The interaction between self-efficacy and age was affected, while the main effect of self-efficacy remained strong. It is concluded that the effect of moderators changes only slightly when their effect size is not weak.

The aim of this study is to explore, through rankings, tolerance towards morally debatable situations. The sample comprised 254 psychology college students (male and female) in Lima, 21-year old on average. The instrument used was the Morally Debatable Behaviors Scale. It is concluded that there is a similarity in the rankings by gender and age. In terms of religion, there are differences with the group of Evangelists, who are less tolerant than Catholics regarding pre-marital sexual relations. The impact of these results in understanding the tendency to action in terms of morality is discussed.
