The lack of datasets to make decisions in quick actions during the pandemic caused by COVID-19 showed the need to use new technologies to speed up the process of capturing decentralized information. In this article, we present a virtual assistant (chatbot) called SaminBot, as an alternative to collect data and provide information during the COVID-19 pandemic; this chatbot opperated in the Cusco region of Peru with conversations in the areas of health, economy, and education from January to August 2020. “SaminBot” starts data collection based on the user’s area of interest, obtains demographic information, and guides him through questions to provide helpful information according to his situation. Specialists validated the questionariess. Data gathering was performed from January to June 2021 through WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger platforms and the project’s website, where 1586 re...

Student academic performance at universities is crucial for education management systems. Many actions and decisions are made based on it, specifically the enrollment process. During enrollment, students have to decide which courses to sign up for. This research presents the rationale behind the design of a recommender system to support the enrollment process using the students’ academic performance record. To build this system, the CRISP-DM methodology was applied to data from students of the Computer Science Department at University of Lima, Perú. One of the main contributions of this work is the use of two synthetic attributes to improve the relevance of the recommendations made. The first attribute estimates the inherent difficulty of a given course. The second attribute, named potential, is a measure of the competence of a student for a given course based on the grades obtained i...

The objective of this work has been to analyze and simulate the interactions of atmospheric and hydrological processes using the WRF Model (Weather Research and Forecasting) in Peru for the year 2014. SENAMHI records precipitation data through a meteorological network found distributed in almost all the Peruvian territory. Due to precipitation has a high spatial variability and to the scarcity of rain gauges, the use of TRMM images was used to estimate precipitation and the WRF atmospheric model to analyze the interactions of atmospheric and hydrological processes during different periods and considering the cumulus parameterizations (Kain-Fritsch scheme, KF) and microphysics (Thompson scheme). Thirty- six images of accumulated monthly precipitation over Peru were processed using the simulation of the atmospheric model WRF (two cases) and the TRMM. Twelve meteorological stations distribu...

Despite the growing literature on bank efficiency worldwide over the last decade, researchers have neglected the Peruvian banking sector. In this paper, the technique of data envelopment analysis (DEA) is used to investigate the efficiency of Peruvian banks for the period 2000 to 2009 to benchmark currently existing banks based on their super-efficiency scores over time. Further, an in-depth analysis of currently existing banks for the period 2008 to 2009 is conducted to check the robustness of DEA efficiency scores and the potential improvement of inputs and outputs for inefficient banks, indicating by how much and in what areas inefficient banks need to improve in order to be efficient. Our finding shows an increasing trend in technical efficiency during the period 2000 to 2009 which gives an indication of an affirmative effect of the reform process in the Peruvian banking sector. On a...

The processcs involed in increasing social complexity have been studied archacologicallythrough several approaches. One of them is the study of interpersonal violence. Violence has beenassociared with nwe forms of social structure, inter-community competition for scarce resources and new forms of political practice. In the Central Andes, it is likely that tha¿e process of transition from egalitarian to ranked societies would have occurred during the Formative perios(1800-1BC). Using osteological markers, this paper approach's the rypes of violence ande their impact on 30 individuals of the Salinar phase(400-1BC) of the puemape site on the Peruvian north coast. For comparative issues,we analyze two earlier populations at the site (Early Puemape,MNI=26 and Middle Puemape,MNI=29) adn others of the region. Higher frequencies of trauma in males (25%cranial and30% facialinjuries and other types...
