Correctly executing exercises during training is of vital importance to ensure adequate athletic performance. Sit-ups are among the most frequently performed exercises requiring proper evaluation. This exercise contributes to increasing abdomen strength, having better posture to reduce back problems, and improving overall physical condition and appearance, among other benefits. Existing methods for evaluating the correct execution of sit-ups are manual, subjective, and inefficient in terms of time, cost, and precision. Therefore, there is a need to have technological tools that measure and monitor core abdominal strength while simultaneously verifying, through image processing, the correct execution of the exercise. Since no solutions with these capabilities have been found in the literature, this work proposes a system that performs these functions using electromyographic (EMG) sensors,...

This article addresses the relationship between the Process and the Constitution. For this purpose, it is explained what is the object of study of the Procedural Law, and which is the litigation model adopted in article 139 of the Peruvian Constitution, why this model is about a system with its own autonomy and substantivity and not about a subsystem, and how Civil Law and Common Law converging in this model. Furthermore, the author establishes, based on the Constitution, the reason why the existing procedural guarantees in our legal system do not imply a “right to a right decision”, but only the right to a fair process, and explains the difference between “fair process” and “justice” or “judicial truth”.

The most controversial institution incorporated into the Criminal Procedure Code of 2004 was the sentence of the acquitted, which is the power that the Superior Criminal Chamber has, when resolving the appeal that may have been filed against a previous acquittal sentence issued in favor of the accused (first instance), in being able to amend it in a conviction against this same procedural subject (second instance), sentencing decision that originally could only be questioned by means of the appeal of cassation. However, the national legislator, through Law No. 31592 of October 26th 2022, has decided to briefly reform this adjective norm, where the legal novelty is that this convicted person has the possibility of challenging his sentence via a new appeal, in which the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court is enabled to act as a judicial instance, this according to the exclusive rules of ...

This research focused on the synthesis of a functional alginate-based material via chemical modification processes with two steps: oxidation and reductive amination. In previous alginate functionalization with a target molecule such as cysteine, the starting material was purified and characterized by UV-Vis,1 H-NMR and HSQC. Additionally, the application of FT-IR techniques during each step of alginate functionalization was very useful, since new bands and spiked signals around the pyranose ring (1200–1000 cm−1) and anomeric region (1000–750 cm−1) region were identified by a second derivative. Additionally, the presence of C1-H1 of β-D-mannuronic acid residue as well as C1-H1 of α-L-guluronic acid residue was observed in the FT-IR spectra, including a band at 858 cm−1 with characteristics of the N-H moiety from cysteine. The possibility of attaching cysteine molecules to an a...

Gaussian processes that can be decomposed into a smooth mean function and a stationary autocorrelated noise process are considered and a fully automatic nonparametric method to simultaneous estimation of mean and auto-covariance functions of such processes is developed. The proposed empirical Bayes approach is data-driven, numerically efficient, and allows for the construction of confidence sets for the mean function. Performance is demonstrated in simulations and real data analysis. The method is implemented in the R package eBsc.

Purple corn (Zea mays L.) is a superfood native to Peru, highly regarded for its functional properties and commonly used in the preparation of traditional beverages and desserts, such as chicha morada and mazamorra morada. Following processing, the corn cobs remaining as a byproduct retain significant amounts of bioactive compounds with potential for utilization. This study proposes their use as a primary component in the production of teas. To ensure product safety, the moisture content, total ash, and counts of enterobacteria and aflatoxins in the raw materials were first evaluated. Fourteen formulations were developed, varying in the proportions of corn cobs, quince, stevia, cinnamon, and cloves, as well as extraction times (5 and 10 minutes at 100 °C) with hot water. Two rapid sensory evaluation methods using consumer panels were applied sequentially: Flash Profile (FP) and Check-...

Edge detection is a digital image processing tool. It determines points in a digital image where light intensity suddenly changes. This process applies to a digital image which assumes some degree of uncertainty in the location and intensity of the pixel in the real image. In this work, we propose an edge detection model which consists in capturing this uncertainty in terms of interval images. Then we apply interval-valued fuzzy morphology to calculate the interval-valued erosion and dilation. Finally, we compute the convex combinations of the upper and lower bounds of the interval-valued erosion and dilation image, to obtain a morphological erosion and dilation respectively, and thus an edge image.

The Strategic Research Plan (PEI) is an essential tool, which defines roles and sets of actions that any Academic Institution must carry out. One of the priorities for academic organizations and especially for universities, is the formation of human capital. That training must develop the research and innovation capabilities of its graduates, to create, generate ventures, transfer and apply new knowledge. Various techniques can be used to prepare the PEI; however, Quality Function Deployment (QFD) includes the voice of the customer and is very effective for developing a PEI. With the use of the QFD it was obtained: the lines of investigation, the processes of planning, design, monitoring and control based on the requirements of CONCYTEC (the voice of the client). Finally, a PEI aligned with the CONCYTEC requirements is justified, thus increasing the possibilities of being able to obtain ...

This study investigated how advertisers from the creation area of large advertising agencies perceive and characterize their creative process. Thirteen Brazilian professionals were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed by content analysis. Results indicate that several stages of the creative process overlap, such as the incubation period of one job functioning as the preparation for the next. Motivating factors include pleasure of the act of creating, media visibility and its social reach. Limiting factors include the agencies’ excessive departmentalization, reduced deadlines, and the clients’ subjectivity influencing the advertisement approval.

This essay offers a feasible and verifiable theoretical basis for affirming what is called the fourth procedural paradigm, corresponding to the constitutional perspective of the civil procedure or the constitutionalization of it, as an overcoming of its previous classical and instrumentalist stages. To this end, through the interdisciplinary method, the research uses constitutional law, legal interpretation and procedural law to reshape the theoretical bases of the civil process and give it a constitutionalized value through the recognition of fundamental procedural rights as directly applicable norms containing optimization mandates. If it is a question of constitutionalizing the civil procedure, the essay, then, does not only seek the safe passage through the account of the so-called procedural guarantees. On the contrary, the functional or utility method applied to the same imposes th...

The present study proposes a method of automatic detection of tuberculosis (TB) bacilli from digital images of Ziehl Neelsen sputum smear baciloscopy. The method is based on an algorithm that aims to automate the interpretation of optical microscopic images of sputum smears. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a specialist can not analyze and process more than 20 samples per day (in order to not affect the analysis sensitivity and commit errors in diagnosis). Therefore, an automated tool as the proposed here, is an important contribution to the current efforts to fight tuberculosis. The algorithm is based on geometric eccentricity of ellipses and improvement of RGB component tones. Correspondence functions adjusted to sample preparation conditions were applied in order to improve the RGB primary component tones of the image. This allows to obtain an adequate segmentation of...

Objective: To validate an explanatory model of cognitive functioning in older adults, based on inhibitory control, working memory and processing speed. Method: Explanatory-correlational design. 128 people between 60 and 85 years of age were evaluated with working memory and processing speed tests of the WAIS-IV intelligence scale, Stroop Test and Neuropsi. Results: Two models of structural equation analysis were applied. In model 1, with the total sample, inhibitory control better explains the cognitive functioning in adults aged 60 to 85 years (β=0.22; p<0.538). Model 2, which included age as a control variable, divided the sample into two age groups, and found that processing speed best predicted cognitive functioning in adults aged 60-70 years (β=2.329; p=0.030). but no variable predicted cognitive functioning in adults aged 71 to 85 years. The second model showed better fitting ...

Blockchain technology is expected to change the way in which the exchange of goods and services is developed, the management of conflicts, and will substantially influence the process of state modernisation. The current research aims to be a simple organisational and theoretical guide that provides a strategy for the process of conflict management in the state sphere. This is based on the imperative need to modernise the current public system, based on the division of powers. This article fundamentally emphasises three concordant ideas: first, that blockchain technology helps to automate certain tasks, thus facilitating access to a decentralised space independent of a central control authority. It democratises and makes management and decision-making processes transparent, allowing all those involved to be examined on an equal footing, and third, it aims to maintain the necessary manual ...
