Mathematicians and computational designers from a School of Architecture, explore visual programming in the environment of a design software with exercises of a basic mathematics course to overcome the limitations of hand drawing and computerized representation of geometry. We link the learning of geometry, which was associated with abstract aspects of mathematics, with the possibilities of solving design problems in the same environment that students use to design with technologies. Visual programming allowed to create and reuse formulas that modeled variations of different exercises, preparing the model for visualization and digital fabrication with 3D printing and laser cutting. This research promotes a learning experience using algorithms and personalized computer graphics throughout design learning and to value the use of mathematics to explore geometric possibilities in design prob...

This paper reviews one of the first systematic programs in the history of art, developed in 1877 by P.V. Pavlov (1823 – 1895), professor of history at the University of St. Vladimir in Kiev. It is stressed that P. Pavlov’s program is a rare case of preserving the original curriculum of educational courses developed by Russian art historians of the 19th – early 20th centuries, which allows of its analysis within the framework of modern historical and cultural discourse. It is proved that the concept of the author of the program who stayed with his educational ideas ahead of the game in world science is unique. The article reveals the content of P. Pavlov’s synthetic approach to the consideration of all elements of spiritual culture, woven into the context of social history, intellectual currents, and the system of values. What calls attention to itself is the originality and innov...

The imminent arrival of advanced technologies in the field of telecommunications would give impulse to upgrade coherently the content of the topics of the last year of the electrical and network engineering program. For instance, the new topics based on the so-called nanocommunications networks might play a crucial role in the field of the medicine. It would demand to implement dedicate networks to be running in an unstoppable manner. In this paper, we present a possible content with a duration of 16 weeks or 4 months with a previous preparation of topics based on a 18-hours per week. All this scheme would provide capabilities to face new fields in the side of the nanocommunications to be applied inside of the nanotechnlogy and nanomedicine, fact that would empower the prospective bachelor of the electrical and network engineering program.

Plagiarism is a serious, yet widespread type of research misconduct, and is often neglected in developing countries. Despite its far-reaching implications, plagiarism is poorly acknowledged and discussed in the academic setting, and insufficient evidence exists in Latin America and developing countries to inform the development of preventive strategies. In this context, we present a longitudinal case study of seven instances of plagiarism and cheating arising in four consecutive classes (2011–2014) of an Epidemiology Masters’ program in Lima, Peru, and describe the implementation and outcomes of a multifaceted, “zero-tolerance” policy aimed at introducing research integrity. Two cases involved cheating in graded assignments, and five cases correspond to plagiarism in the thesis protocol. Cases revealed poor awareness and high tolerance to plagiarism, poor academic performance, an...

Critical thinking is a fundamental competency for university students, as it involves analyzing and judging even one’s own beliefs, which requires a willingness to change. This study aimed to determine whether it is possible to develop critical thinking through the PECRIT program in early childhood and primary education university students from a university in Huancayo. The research, with a quantitative approach, used a quasi-experimental design with two non-equivalent groups. The reactive indirect observation technique was employed, and a pedagogical test was applied as the instrument to measure the level of critical thinking. The population included 1,668 students from the Faculty of Education, from which a non-probabilistic sample of 129 students was selected: 60 comprised the experimental group and 69 the control group. The results showed significant improvements in the experimenta...
