This paper reports the Brachionidae species recognized in samples collected in October 2010 in the albufera Laguna El Paraiso, Huacho (11°13’ −11°10'S , 77°35' −77°40'W). Five species were determined: Keratella tropica, Brachionus quadridentatus, B. urceolaris, B. angularis and B. ibericusCiros-Pérez 2001, which is a new report for Peru and this report expanding its worldwide distribution.

This study evaluates the genotoxic injury in the species Colossoma macropomum (“Gamitana") when exposed to the pesticide Fipronil, for which we used the micronucleus test (MN). We workwed with juveniles in the third stage, placed in glass tanks, which were exposed to 3 different concentrations of fipronil (C1: 0.075 mg /L, C2: 0.15 mg /L and C3: 0.30 mg /L), evaluated at 24 and 48 h. Peripheral blood was used which made the spread. The counting of micronuclei and abnormalities was made on the basis of 1000 cells. The average rate of micronuclei indicates that 0.075 mg / L the average frequency is twice the control. With regard to abnormalities of the core, was found more frequently at 48 h of exposure.

Genotoxic evaluation is an important step for a product that is aimed for human consumption. A beverage composed of pseudocereals with highly nutritious elements like quinua (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.), kiwicha (Amaranthus caudatus L.) and kañiwa (Chenopodium pallidicaule Aellen) was prepared to reduce lipid contents in a group of volunteers. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the genotoxic potential of an experimental beverage using two in vitro tests that have been validated by international agencies. For the Ames test, two strains of Salmonella typhimurium (TA98 and TA100) with and without microsomal fraction (S9) were used. Four doses of the beverage were tested and also a possible protective effect (same four doses of beverage added to plates with mutagens). Cultures of binucleated lymphocytes and five doses of the beverage were used for the micronucleus test. Both A...

Pyrazinamide (PZA) is an antibiotic used in first- and second-line tuberculosis treatment regimens. Approximately 50% of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and over 90% of extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis strains are also PZA resistant. Despite the key role played by PZA, its mechanisms of action are not yet fully understood. It has been postulated that pyrazinoic acid (POA), the hydrolyzed product of PZA, could inhibit trans-translation by binding to Ribosomal protein S1 (RpsA) and competing with tmRNA, the natural cofactor of RpsA. Subsequent data, however, indicate that these early findings resulted from experimental artifact. Hence, in this study we assess the capacity of POA to compete with tmRNA for RpsA. We evaluated RpsA wild type (WT), RpsA A438, and RpsA A438 variants with truncations towards the carboxy terminal end. Interactions were measured using Nuclear Magnetic Reson...
