The exotic fish Trichopodus trichopterus, popularly known as gourami, is a species native to Asia, which has been introduced globally, being present in all continents of the world. This species has all the necessary characteristics to be considered a "dangerous" exotic species for natural environments, being necessary to carry out studies to determine its possible impacts on natural environments. In this context, the main objective of this study was to evaluate the populations of gourami and their possible impacts on native species in waters adjacent to the city of Iquitos, Peru. The results of the study revealed the presence of the gourami in more than 70% of the sampled premises, with dominance of approximately 30% in relation to the presence of other fish species; The stomach contents revealed the presence of food items that helped determine that this species is generalist and opportu...

Platynematichthys notatus (Jardine, 1841), popularly known as "lince cat" stands out for being a very popular species in the ornamental fish market, being exported to different parts of the world. Despite its economic importance, the existing information on helminths that parasitize this species is very scarce. In this sense, the present study identified monogenoids that parasitize the gills of this fish. The gills of ten specimens of P. notatus from the commercial aquarium AQUATRADE SAC, placed in Iquitos-Peru were analyzed. After taxonomic identification, Boegeriella conica Mendoza-Palmero, Mendoza-Franco, Acosta & Scholz, 2019 was reported as the species that parasitizes the gills of P. notatus. The main morphological characteristics of the species are: a coiled tubular male copulatory organ forming approximately 2 1/2 rings, an accessory piece of a sigmoid shape, bars with anteri...

The aim of this study was to describe a case of Piscinoodinium pillulare infestation and mortality in juveniles of Colossoma macropomum. In March 2019, 21 juvenile specimens of a semi-intensive fish farm were collected in the Maynas area, Loreto (Peru). Parasitological analysis of the external parts of the fish was performed and the presence of P. pillulare located on the skin, fins, gills, and nostrils was observed. Furthermore, a 30% mortality was recorded (1500 out of 5000 seeded). The non-disinfection of the pond, the inadequate control in the feeding, and the proliferation of Oreochromis niloticus (tilapia) in the culture were the causes of the proliferation of P. pillulare. This is the first reported case of P. pillulare infestation in juveniles of C. macropomum grown in the Peruvian Amazon.

Poecilia reticulata (Peters, 1859), popularly known as the guppy, is a small fi sh commonly confined to the shallow edges of pools and streams and also found in heavily polluted water bodies. In natural and artificial environments, this fish species can be infected by a wide range of pathogens and parasites. In the present study, we reported for the first time in the Peruvian Amazon, the infestation of metacercariae of Clinostomum marginatum (Rudolphi, 1819) in the body of specimens of P. reticulata. Between May and June 2024, fifty specimens of P. reticulata were collected from an urban stream in the city of Iquitos, Loreto, Peru. Samples were collected at the “Laboratorio de Parasitolog.a y Sanidad Acuícola” from the “Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazon.a Peruana” (IIAP) in Loreto, Peru. Metacercariae of C.marginatum were observed embedded in the muscle tissue of 100% of...
