The seed and peel of the Passiflora tripartita fruit, have compounds of great importance that could be used by the agroindustry, pharmaceutical industry and medicine. This review article collects information on phenolic compounds, dietary fibers, and essential oils that fruit fractions have. The pulp of this fruit is intended for the preparation of antioxidant and additive functional beverages. The reports mention that the seeds have a high amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids, phenolic, and terpenes, and suggest being used in the form of nanoemulsions and as antimicrobials. Also, the terpenes in the essential oil of the seed have been linked to the treatment of colon cancer. Regarding the use of the peel, many species of the same genus are investigated for their antioxidant capacity, pectin content, dietary fiber and antimicrobial activity, having potential uses as antioxidant additive...

“Pitahaya amarilla” (Hylocereus megalanthus) and “tumbo serrano” (Passiflora tripartita var. mollisima) two fruits that grow in Peru. The aim of this study was to evaluate the hypoglycemic activity by in vitro inhibition of α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes. The fruits were pulped and lyophilized, and after the obtaining of aqueous extracts, the total phenolic content (TPC) was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. Inhibitory activity was determined by IC50, and the type of inhibition was evaluated using 0,25-2 mg/mL and 0,02-0,28 mg/mL of the extract of tumbo serrano for α-amylase and α-glucosidase, respectively. For pitahaya amarilla, 4-64 mg/mL and 0,8-25,6 mg/mL were used for each enzyme, respectively. The TPC for the tumbo serrano and pitahaya amarilla were 614,67 and 16,17 mg/100 g of sample, respectively, expressed as gallic acid equivalents. The aqueous extract ...

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the extraction and microencapsulation of antioxidant compounds from Oenocarpus bataua Mart seed, commonly known as “ungurahui” or “patawa”. The extraction process was performed in an ultrasonic bath and the orthogonal composite central design of the response surface methodology (RSM) was used to determine the optimal extraction conditions, using two factors: ethanol concentration (48.44 to 91.56%) and extraction time (13.83 to 46.17 min). The optimal extraction conditions (48.44% ethanol and 13.83 min) allowed to obtain the extract (EUL) with the highest number of antioxidants (yield (YI): 24.64%, total phenolic content (TPC): 452.76 mg GAE/g EUL and DPPH: 74.26%). Microencapsulation of EUL with maltodextrin by spray drying produced microcapsules (EUM) of homogeneous size (5 µm), without cracks or fissures and that preserved its...

The aguaymanto is a native species of the Peruvian highland, which has a tiny fruit that disagrees with its greatness and nutritional therapy. The present investigation had as objetive to assess and compare the total polyphenol content by the Folin-Ciocalteu method and antioxidant capacity of the fruits of Physalis peruviana L., from Huánuco, Junín, Ancash y Cajamarca by the method of the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picril-hidrazilo). The fruit coming from Huánuco presented a higher content of phenolic compounds expressed as 149.3 ± 1.62 mg/Eq of gallic acid/100g fruit. In addition, greater antioxidant capacity obtaining as inhibitory concentration IC50 1.86 mg/mL, compared with the fruits from Junín, Ancash y Cajamarca; and it would be a good source of consumption in benefit for the health.
