Long and monotonous journeys during the transport of goods can generate tiredness and/or fatigue in the driver, generating a potential vehicle accident where the driver can enter a state of micro-sleep, losing control of the vehicle for a period of time. Within the state of the art, it is observed that most of the solutions have as their fundamental axis the analysis of the ocular muscle, being these vulnerable to the variation of light intensity and facial accessories that the driver can use. On the other hand, other studies analyze EEG signals being intrusive and disturbing the driving skills of the driver. This work presents a driver fatigue monitoring system based on the angular movement of the head, the main characteristic prior to the state of micro-sleep, located in a safety helmet. To do this, an analysis of the angular movement of the driver’s head is carried out, thus avoidin...

The survey of archaeological monuments presents particular needs and difficulties. Such surveys must in fact be as complete, geometrically correct and accurately geo-referenced as possible. These needs, however, often face problems of difficult accessibility, the need for rapid timing and complex logistical conditions. The latest generation of mobile phones are equipped with ultra-high resolution cameras up to 100 megapixel. Although they do not have the geometric characteristics of professional cameras, they can be used advantageously for the reconstruction of three-dimensional models using Structure from Motion methodologies . At the same time, the latest mobile phones are equipped with GPS/GNSS chips that allow a postprocessing of their positioning allowing to reach decimetric/centimetric accuracies. The use of sensors integrated in a mobile phone greatly simplify the survey both in t...

Ocean pollution and contamination of the water are serious problems because of its rapid increase and spread, having a negative effect on people, animals and the environment. Due to this, new technologies to monitor and measure environmental parameters are being developed. Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles (ROVs) have become a commonly used robotic platform in oceanographic monitoring and analysis. The ROVBWSTI, designed by Fraunhofer IOSB-AST Institute, is an underwater modular vehicle capable of fulfilling numerous tasks, especially in the area of environmental sensoring. The motion of the ROV is commanded through a joypad controller, and functional requirements of autonomy are not implemented yet. Motivated by this fact, this master thesis focuses on the modelling of the dynamics of the remotely operated vehicle, considering its motion, existing ocean currents, effects of gravitat...

Robot manipulators are designed to interact with their surroundings. Even if a task does not specifically involve interaction, the robot may collide with unknown obstacles during its motion. To overcome these problems, it is necessary to consider possible interactions inside the control system. This paper aims to design a controller that allows the manipulator to reach a final pose, even if it interacts with an unforeseen object during its trajectory. This design is composed of two stages: A feedback linearization system that allows to eliminate intrinsic nonlinearities of the robot, and the imposition of a dynamic behavior to keep delicate interactions without using external 6D force/torque sensors. The proposed controller was tested on an UR5 robot, but can be extended to any robotic manipulator. The results show the comparison between the behavior achieved by a standard feedback-linea...

It is reviewed the actual concepts about concepts about legg-Calvé-Perthes disease, and observe that too long period of inmovilization of the affected hip produces psychologic problems in the patients and their family, and the functional results are not supperior compared with other methods. In this work we compare the personal results of three methods of containment of the femoral head within the acetabulum using abduction casts in patients with Catterall III-IV Perthes disease: Inhauser in 27 patients (32 hips), Petrie in 10 patients (11 hips), Broom Stick in 8 patients (9 hips); despite the short period of follow up we obtained better results with Petrie and Broom Stick casts, Improving first the motion with skin traction and physical therapy. The results were rated using the system of Stulberg.

In nature, vibrissae are tactile hairs of mammals used as sensor elements for the exploring the surrounding area. These hairs, also known as whiskers, can be found in different locations on an animals body. Mystacial vibrissae are distributed over a whiskerpad on a muzzle. Carpal vibrissae are located on the downside aspect of the forelimbs of mammals. The vibrissal hair has a conical shape and grows from a special heavily innervated hair follicle incorporating a capsule of blood. As the hair itself has no receptors along its length, the vibrissa may be considered as a system for transmitting forces and torques that arise from the contact between the hair and an object to sensory receptors inside the follicle. The present thesis deals with the vibrational motion of vibrissae dur- ing natural exploratory behaviour from the mechanical point of view. The phenomenon of the parametric resonan...

Overhead cranes are widely used in industry for transportation of heavy loads and are common industrial structures used in building construction, factories, and harbors, traditionally operated by experienced crane operators. The underlyng system consists of three main components: trolley, bridge, and gantry. Basically, the system is a trolley with pendulum. In normal operation, the natural sway of crane payloads is detrimental to the safe and efficient action. Other external disturbances parameters, wind for example, also affect the controller performance. Basically, a crane system is an underactuated system. This makes the design of its controllers complicated. Usually, this is done via the crane acceleration required for motion. The most important issues in crane motion are high positioning accuracy, short transportation time, small sway angle, and high safety. The main goal of this th...

Nowadays, a correct detection of people is very important for different purposes. Most applications use images as sources of information. However, an image may contain more information than is necessary for the detection task. For this reason, raw video images can end up being used for malicious purposes or privacy concerns. We present baseline results for a new human detection task. We evaluate long short-term memory (LSTM)-based deep learning models for detecting people using electrical signals from electrostatic discharge (ESD) floors as a source of information. Statistical features were provided to the models every second and four classification problems were studied. The first model discriminates between motion and non-motion. A second model classifies the action of the person between: no person, walking or standing. A third model classifies between walking and standing. And a last ...

Violence Detection in surveillance video is an important task to prevent social and personal security issues. Usually, traditional surveillance systems need a human operator to monitor a large number of cameras, leading to problems such as miss detections and false positive detections. To address this problem, in last years, researchers have been proposing computer vision-based methods to detect violent actions. The violence detection task could be considered a sub-task of the action recognition task but violence detection has been less investigated. Although a lot of action recognition works were proposed for human behavior analysis, there are just a few CCTV-based surveillance methods for analyzing violent actions. In the literature of violence detection, most of the methods tackle the problem as a classication task, where a short video is labeled as violent or non-violent. Just a few ...
