The purpose of this paper is to put forward a hypothesis about the “philological translation” of literary texts of increased complexity and test it on the material of specific works. Based on the material of Russian and foreign translation studies, this paper formulates the concept of “philological translation” in the appendix to a specific publishing project within the series “Literary monuments” published by the Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and considers the most important practical aspects of the problem of adequate translation of literary texts of increased complexity. The analysis of the translation of two works by the representative of the French New Novel Claude Simon illustrates clearly the example of a “philological translation”. In the course of the study, the authors came to the conclusion that a philological translation imp...

The transition of the 30S initiation complex (IC) to the translating 70S ribosome after 50S subunit joining provides an important checkpoint for mRNA selection during translation in bacteria. Here, we study the timing and control of reactions that occur during 70S IC formation by rapid kinetic techniques, using a toolbox of fluorescence-labeled translation components. We present a kinetic model based on global fitting of time courses obtained with eight different reporters at increasing concentrations of 50S subunits. IF1 and IF3 together affect the kinetics of subunit joining, but do not alter the elemental rates of subsequent steps of 70S IC maturation. After 50S subunit joining, IF2-dependent reactions take place independent of the presence of IF1 or IF3. GTP hydrolysis triggers the efficient dissociation of fMet-tRNAfMet from IF2 and promotes the dissociation of IF2 and IF1 from the ...

The theory of poetic transcreation, proposed by the concrete poets Haroldo and Augusto de Campos, leaders of the Noigandres group, proposes understanding translation as a form of creation and knowledge of the poem. Aligned by the ideas of concretism in which the poem is conceived as a combination of formal graphic-phonetic and spatial elements that make an experience possible, the poets-translators understood that their work favored a metalinguistic practice that apprehends the interior of the poem and makes the translation in a search that is not limited to meaning but to sign and matter. In this sense, for those from Campos, translating is studying, but, at the same time, creating. Based on these ideas, this research aims to problematize the concept of transcreation from the translation of a famous poem by the American author Edward Estlin Cummings “a leaf falls” (1958), previously...

This health crisis, in addition to showing the precarious health system, has shown that the machismo that prevails in Peru is as serious as this pandemic; however, it has not been given due attention. In this way, it is considered essential to perceive how this state of emergency, as a risk factor, has reinforced sexist behaviors and gender roles in Peruvian society, and, at the same time, reflect on how this should be an opportunity to question and deconstruct society. The objective of this article is to analyze the elements to reflect on the COVID-19 pandemic from the point of view of masculinity and how these can provide tools to face this situation. Likewise, face it not only in a positive way but also proactively from a future perspective in which the practices are translated into cultures where care, peace, affection and equality are central elements in the lives of men

In this work the possibility of deriving diachronic conclusions from the study of conceptual orality in literature is tested. With this purpose, some theatrical translated texts from Plautus and Terence of the 16th and 19th centuries are compared. The research concentrates on syntactic strategies related to the beginning of the dialogical turn. Throughout the analysis I discuss whether mechanisms which shape oral textuality in theatrical literature in the 16th and in the 19th century are the same or they undergo significant variations across time. Furthermore, the influence of Latin source text in the constitution of fictional orality strategies within the corpus is considered.

The purpose of this study was to translate the Bedtime Procrastination Scale (BPS) into Spanish and to evaluate its psychometric properties. A sample of 419 students from three Peruvian universities participated in the study. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to evaluate the original model of the scale, which initially showed poor fit indices. Improved fit indices were obtained after removing reverse-scored item, χ²(5) = 9.240, CFI = .998, RMSEA = .045, TLI = .997, and SRMR = .013. The internal consistency of the scale, examined using the omega coefficient, was found to be satisfactory (ω = .86). Moreover, measurement invariance analysis supported gender invariance, indicating that the scale functions equivalently across male and female participants. Additionally, convergent validity was assessed by examining the correlations between the BPS and insomnia, as measured by the A...

The levelling program in heterogenic groups, has been elaborated taking into account the measures of the scientific methodology and it is oriented to better the oral production ability in the English language from the students in the first cycle of the Professional Academic School of Translation and Interpretation at César Vallejo University in Chi-clayo. Nowadays in the Professional Academic School of Translation and Interpretation exists a great interest for developing and better the level of knowledge of the English language, however the oral production ability, which is considered by the author an ability necessary and important to work in the acquisition of this language, remains of a big difficulty because many times this ability has not given the priority for teachers and students. In this research was formulated the problem of investigation, the hypothesis, the general objective...

This research work deals with the real-time implementation of a nonlinear multivariable position control system which uses a sliding mode controller to generate the control forces. Such a control forces will be applied to  translational robot arm of 2 degrees of freedom that consist of a cart mounted on a pair of rails and a link mounted on a pivot point located on the cart. The cart and the link (the arm of the robot) are driven by DC servomotors. Experimentalresults obtained from the designed nonlinear control system will demonstrate that the designed control inputs applied on the servomotors make the outputs (sliding motion of the cart and angular positions of the arm) capable of tracking arbitrary trajectorie.

Following the spirit of reflection of the patriarch of letters, this presentation aims to show certain aspects of Ricardo Palma’s life as a translator and expert on the work of the most representative literary figures of European and American Romanticism. Several authors and numerous sources show Palma’s first contact with outstanding English-speaking writers, who are believed to have encouraged the writer to dedicate many hours stolen from his free time to translating, producing his own verses and perfecting the literary style with which he would consecrate the great intellectual evolution of his works. It is the translator’s duty to explore the biography of every writer to discover the hidden messages between his pen and his pages, as knowing the close relationship that Palma maintained over the years with English culture could bring us closer to the true spirit of his passion fo...
