The aim of this research was to identify the levels of reading comprehension, the use of strategies and the motivation towards reading, and to relate them to different sociodemographic and academic variables, in students of the Biology career of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Campus Iztacala. Fifty-four students participated and were remotely applied the Instrument for Assessing Reading Comprehension in University Students, the Inventory of Metacognitive Strategies and Reading Motivation and a self-report to measure various academic and socio-demographic variables. La comprensión lectora en inglés es una problemática significativa en el Perú. Sin esta habilidad, los estudiantes no logran aprender inglés correctamente ya que la comprensión es fundamental para la adquisición del idioma. Es por ello que se propuso el diseño y la aplicación del conjunto de actividades llamado “Read and Learn” basado en la teoría del “Directed Reading Thinking Activity” (DRTA) y las estrategias de lectura del nivel literal, inferencial y crítico para mejorar la comprensión lectora en inglés. La investigación advierte que en la entrevista de empleo los entrevistados frecuentemente distorsionan sus respuestas, de forma intencional y consciente, para lucir más aptos; por tanto, Levashina y Campion (2007) proponen el constructo Falseamiento para estudiar este fenómeno y la escala IFB para medirlo. The objective of this research is to determine the relationship between the processes that make up reading comprehension (perceptive, lexical, syntactic and semantic) and the metacognitive reading skills (planning, supervision and evaluation) in students of cycle V (5th and 6th grade of elementary school) from a private school, located in the district of Santiago de Surco, Lima (Peru). The instruments used were the Battery of Evaluation of the Reading Processes - Revised (PROLEC-R) and adapted for students of Metropolitan Lima, and the Scale of Reading Consciousness (ESCOLA). Se ejecutó un estudio descriptivo transversal con el objetivo de determinar las variables asociadas al riesgo familiar en los asentamientos humanos 28 de Julio y Triunfo del distrito de Belén, 2013. La rr¡uestra seleccionada en forma probabilística estuvo conformada por 237 fainilias, a quienes se aplicó instrumentos estandarizados como el test de percepción del funcionamiento familiar (validez 0,94 y confiabilidad 0,88), escala de riesgo familiar (confiabilidad 0,783), escala de Apoyo Familiar (confiabilidad 0.85 y validez 0.86). Los hallazgos mostraron que el 55,30% son familias nucleares, 62,40% en etapa de consolidación, 32,90% con hijos adolescentes. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la influencia de la lectura crítica en las competencias investigativas de estudiantes de maestría. El enfoque fue cuantitativo, desde el modelo de regresión lineal múltiple. Se utilizaron dos instrumentos: un cuestionario de pensamiento crítico (CPC2) y un cuestionario de competencias investigativas para una muestra de 215 maestrandos de dos nacionalidades. Como resultado, el 39,4 % de los cambios en las competencias investigativas se deben al incremento de la edad y del desarrollo de la lectura crítica. Las variables lectura crítica y edad han sido significativas (intervalo de confianza al 95 %: 0,943; 1,061). This descriptive research examines the performance on reading comprehension of four gifted adolescents participating in a reading enrichment program. This performance is related to the variables associated to the gifted performance following the model developed by Mönks: motivation, creativity, high ability, school, peers and family. Results showed that school does not satisfy the cognitive needs of these students and it does not offer the required social support either. The family provides the main social support. The motivation, creativity, the high level of language and concentration of the participants facilitate learning. The reading program is described by the participants as motivating due to the subject-matters and methodology; furthermore, due to the opportunity to deal with peers who have a similar cognitive level.

The purpose of the research is to identify students' knowledge and beliefs about reading strategies at the end of basic education. It is also intended to determine the type of correlation between students' fundamental knowledge about reading strategies and their beliefs about reading strategies. The study design is quantitative, descriptive-cross-sectional. The collection of information was carried out through a questionnaire of forty items, which was subjected to a pilot test by test and retest of reliability with 30 students. This article presents the results of an investigation that tests an alternative program to improve reading comprehension, the direct instruction of reading strategies, the use of different types of texts, and where the teacher cedes control of the process were taken as guidelines reader to student gradually. The research was of an applied type, with a quasi-experimental design, working with 44 second-grade high school students from public educational institutions, to measure the study variable of applying the Demonstrating what we learned-Reading test developed by the UMC. The results show us a significant difference between the control and experimental group, proving its effectiveness in increasing the level of reading comprehension and in the development of their abilities.
