Ivermectin is one of the most widely used antiparasitic drugs in veterinary medicine. Moreover, it is used for treating many parasitosis in human medicine. However, its uncontrolled massive use is being associated to the appearance of parasitic resistance. The emergence of SARS-CoV-2, causing agent of COVID-19, has challenged health systems worldwide, forcing them to urgently work in the development of proper therapeutic protocols against such disease. In Peru, the Ministry of Health approved the addition of ivermectin within the treatment protocol for COVID-19. Aiming to collect scientific evidence that supported such decision, a systematic search was performed within scientific journals´ digital repositories and clinical trials´ databases focused on therapy against COVID-19. Until the date of submission of this article, no scientific evidence was found to support the efficacy or safe...

The aim of this study was to evaluate two protocols for oestrus synchronization using intravaginal progestogens. In the study, 64 ewes with lambs at foot of 30-40 days old were used. The animals were assigned to two groups: (T1): application of a short synchronization protocol (6 days) with suppression of suckling for 30 hours (n1=32) and (T2): application of a long or conventional protocol (12 days) with suppression of suckling for 54 hours (n2=32). Fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) was performed with refrigerated semen through the transcervical route at the end of temporary weaning. The pregnancy rate without heat return at 16-17 days post-FTAI, pregnancy rate at 41 days by ultrasound, pregnancy rate at 90 days by balloting and type of delivery were determined. The rate of non-return to oestrus at 15-17 days post-FTAI was 81.25% for T1 and 87.50% for T2 (p<0.05). Likewise, t...

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of the climate and a heat synchronization protocol on the onset of puberty, gestation and lambing of Texel x Romney ewes bred outside the breeding season. The experiment was carried out at the INTA Experimental Station (EEA) (Corrientes, Argentina) with 26 Texel x Romney ewes of 11 months of age and 47.0 ± 2.2 kg of body weight. A protocol of estrus synchronization using intravaginal sponges with medroxyprogesterone acetate - MAP (60 mg) for seven days and 400 IU of eCG at the removal of the sponges was applied. Two fertile Dorper males were introduced on the day of sponge removal and the diagnosis of pregnancy by rectal ultrasonography was performed 50 days after the mating. Meteorological data were obtained to calculate the temperature-humidity index (ITH) and to determine the degree of caloric stress. Results showed that 69.2% of the sh...

Introduction: Mechanical ventilation is a cornerstone in the management of critically ill patients worldwide; however, less is known about the clinical management of mechanically ventilated patients in low and middle income countries where limitation of resources including equipment, staff and access to medical information may play an important role in defining patient-centred outcomes. We present the design of a prospective, longitudinal study of mechanically ventilated patients in Peru that aims to describe a large cohort of mechanically ventilated patients and identify practices that, if modified, could result in improved patient-centred outcomes and lower costs. Methods and analysis: Five Peruvian intensive care units (ICUs) and the Medical ICU at the Johns Hopkins Hospital were selected for this study. Eligible patients were those who underwent at least 24 h of invasive mechanical...
