Life skills are considered necessary to achieve healthy human development and their teaching has spread globally through the implementation of prevention programs in school environments. However, these programs require easy to use instruments with adequate psychometric properties. This study aims to provide validity evidence based on the internal structure for the Life Skills Test, and to design a short version to assess life skills in Mexican adolescents and young people in school. In this psychometric study the Life Skills Test was administered to 897 students (Mage = 20.70, SD = 3.73); 74.7 % were women (M age = 20.49, SD = 3.16), 25.3 % men (M age = 21.33; SD = 5.01). 2.6 % were secondary and upper secondary education, 95.4 % undergraduate and 2% postgraduate students. The original test consists of 80 items and identifies ten life skills. In this research, the original test did not s...

Background: The Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale short version (IUS-12) has proven to be a robust self-report measure to assess intolerance of uncertainty. While previous psychometric analyses of the IUS-12 have established a stable two-factor structure corresponding to the prospective and inhibitory factors of intolerance of uncertainty, recent studies suggest that the bifactor model may better explain its factor structure. Objective: The current study aimed to adapt and validate the IUS-12 in a Mexican population culturally. Method: The study consisted of a convenience non-probabilistic community sample of 405 adults between 18 and 70 years. Results: Confirmatory factor analyses supported a bifactor model and good internal consistency. Invariance testing indicated partial invariance across women and men. Convergent validity tests showed that the IUS-12 was related to measures of w...

Objective: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Mexican version of the Parental-Caregivers Perceptions Questionnaire. Materials and methods: A psychometric scale validation study developed in Poza Rica (Veracruz-México) that cross-culturally adapted the Parental-Caregivers Perceptions Questionnaire from Peruvian Spanish to Mexican slang. Face validity was evaluated through the judgment of experts who rated the clarity, relevance and importance of the questions. The sample was 241 parents and caregivers. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's Omega, internal consistency, and discriminant power using Spearman's correlation coefficient, and content validity was assessed using Exploratory Factor Analysis. Results: The scale showed an α=0.81 and ω=0.8. The matrix tests presented a Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin index=0.739 (p=0.001); Bartlett's test (p=0.001). Various...

The “Reading the Mind in the Eyes test” (RMET), also known as “The Eyes test”, is one of the most widely used tests to study Theory of Mind (ToM) and has been translated to several languages around the world. The aim of this study was to present an online version of the RMET designed for a Mexican population (Barrera-Valdivia et al., 2019) and to explore sex and age-related effects on the performance of the test. 1489 adults (1054 female, 71%) age 18 to 87 (M=30, SD=15) participated in the study. Participants were instructed to choose the word that best described what the person in each picture was feeling among four options. Stimuli consisted of full color images of 45 people’s eyes who expressed a variety of mental states. Results showed that 30 stimuli met the selection criteria: ≥50% selected on target and ≤25% on any of the foils. Average accuracy in response was 76% (...

Background: The Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) is the most widely used measure of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression, two core emotion regulation strategies. However, the original ERQ has complex wording, which may make it difficult for readers of lower educational levels. Objective: We aimed to examine the psychometric properties of a simplified version of the ERQ, initially designed for children and adolescents: the ERQ-CA. Method: A sample of 397 Mexican adults was studied (77.3% women, 22.7% men; mean age = 22.84). A confirmatory factor analysis, as well as a graded response model, were used to study the internal functioning of the instrument. In addition, its associations with three psychopathological variables (anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation) were examined. Results: A 9-item version of the ERQ-CA showed adequate f...

The innovations, creations, or inventions in the literary, artistic, scientific, industrial, commercial and other fields, which arise during the relationship that unites the worker with an employer, are extremely important for the daily life of society; however, although the legal framework applicable to the protection of these novel tangible or intangible assets is broad, when considering the rights that each person has with respect to the project, product, or element developed, when the creation arises in an employment relationship, it is appreciated a precarious and insufficient regulatory environment, since it has practically been left in legal oblivion. It is significant not to omit that the primary purpose of intellectual property law is to protect the legal interests of the creators of original and/or innovative goods or products, while labor law seeks to protect what is conducive...

This study analyzes structural inequality in employment within the avocado agro-industrial enclave of Michoacán, Mexico. It examines income distribution asymmetries, labor segmentation mechanisms, and heterogeneity in contractual conditions, among other aspects. Through a mixed-methods research design, quantitative analyses (indices and coefficients) are integrated with qualitative evidence obtained from interviews and ethnographic observation. The findings indicate a concentration of surplus among large producers and traders, while a significant number of agricultural workers face labor precarity and limited access to formal employment and social security schemes. The study concludes that the agro-export specialization, structured as a productive enclave, has perpetuated structural inequalities and a dependency position, expressing the need for public policy interventions and other mea...

The aim of this research was to review the psychometric properties of the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale(FMPS) in a non-clinical sample of 1,242 Mexican adults. The reliability and validity of the scale were assessed usingfactorial analyses, and Cronbach’s alpha (α) and McDonald’s omega (ω) indices were analyzed. The overall reliabilityof the scale was excellent (α = .928, ω = .928), with specific dimensions ranging from acceptable to excellent (concernover mistakes: α = .899, ω = .903; organization: α = .892, ω = .896). Exploratory factor analysis confirmed theadequacy of the data (KMO = .940, p < .001), with the final model fitting with five factors explaining 59.390% of thevariance. Confirmatory factor analysis yielded an RMSEA of .074, CMIN/DF of 7.882, GFI of .849, and CFI of .871,indicating acceptable but not excellent fit. These results suggest that the ...
