This article recovers the experience of people with HIV residing in the Metropolitan Area of the Buenos Aires Province, around «treatment as prevention» the central core of the HIV-Aids contemporary government policies. It’s an ethnographic investigation with fieldwork (24 months of 2-3 weekly visits lasting 8-12 hours each) developes between 2016 and 2018. Our empirical corpus consists of 13 in-depth interviews and extensive records of everyday interaction observations. We analyze the ways in which the virus´' undetectability and untransmittability engage into everyday life with HIV. We show that while policies present the undetectable-untransmittable relation as key to ending the epidemic and simultaneously as a powerful tool to respond to the stigma surrounding HIV, these relations become more complex in the everyday lives of those affected by it, giving rise to tense and co...

Tuberculosis (TB) and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection are epidemiologically linked with respect to their risk prognosis, be it for the development of TB in an HIV-infected patient or as a prognostic indicator of HIV infection. The association of TB and HIV potentiates the aggressiveness of both. The extension of HIV epidemics all over the world allowed that its interaction with tuberculosis modified the descending curve of the frequency of TB in those countries that had achieved such reduction, such as the USA. In developing countries highly endemic for TB, this interaction worsened this problem. The risk of dying because of TB in an HIV-infected patient is 2 to 4 times higher compared to that in a TB patient not infected with HIV, independently of the CD-4 lymphocyte count.

This article presents an approach to the explanatory models on HIV/AIDS that circulate among the Awajún population of communities that have been intervened by the Global Fund stance of interrelation between the people and the within the framework of the strategy against HIV. In this sense, health is understood as an inState, and therefore, it is taken into account that medical dialogues or encounters, where this disease is discussed, are determinant in the experience of the disease, as they reflect a historical and political framework of social relations. To this end, ethnographic fieldwork was carried out during February, August and September 2017 in native communities of the Awajún ethnic group on the Cenepa River in Amazonas. Through constant and participant observation, and open and indepth interviews, we have investigated how informatio...

The study explored the relationship between perceived stigma and coping strategies used in adults with HIV/AIDS. This was a cross-sectional correlational project. A total of 350 patients from a public hospital in Lima of different genders (M: 254, F: 92, NB: 4) aged between 18 and 55 years (M: 37, SD= 10.86), and, with treatment times between 6 months and 30 years, voluntarily participated. A sociodemographic form, the HIV Stigma Scale to explore stigma and the COPE questionnaire to measure coping were applied. Heterosexual sexual orientation was the majority of the cases (54 %), more than 30 % considered themselves as the main social support and 37.4% had university education. Stigma was high (28.6 %) to moderate (71.4 %), 50 % of the cases were concerned about their diagnosis being revealed, and the most used coping strategy was problem-focused (65.1 %). A negative and highly significa...

After two decades of availability of antiretroviral therapy, the prognosis of HIV-infected patients has changed dramatically. The curse of this infection has changed from a rapidly fatal infection to a more manageable, chronic infection with an almost normal life span. This has led to a dramatic reduction in the mortality rate related to HIV in countries where antiretroviral therapy is widely available. With incidence rates stable or increasing and lower mortality, the prevalence of this infection is increasing. This fact increases the chances of non-specialist physicians to encounter HIV infected patients in their practice. That is why this revision is directed to the non-specialist physician and its objective is to update their knowledge in the complex area of the management of HIV therapy. This is a broad but superficial revision of the current status of the management of HIV infectio...

Objective: To determine the association that social, clinical and therapeutic factors and coexisting diseases have with nonadherence to antiretroviral therapy in people with HIV/AIDS in 2018. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study conducted with a sample of 117 people with HIV/AIDS on antiretroviral therapy at the Hospital Daniel Alcides Carrión. The Questionnaire for the Assessment of Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy (CEAT-VIH)adapted for use in Peru was administered. The IBM SPSS Statistics V23 and logistic regression were used for the statistical analysis. Results: Seventeen point one zero percent (17.10 %) of the patients did not adhere to the therapy and 82.90 % adhered to their prescribed treatment. The variables most likely to predict nonadherence were sex (OR = 16.175, p value = 0.023) and HIV/AIDSrelated comorbidities (OR = 9.556, p value = 0.003). The initial viral ...

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the social representations of people living with HIV/AIDS and their experiences of prejudice. Method: One hundred fifty- four (154) people living with HIV/AIDS participated in the study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and underwent a descending hierarchical analysis through the IRaMuTeQ software. Results: The study results showed that for these individuals the moment of diagnosis was perceived as a turning point, but after a while they eventually anchored their health condition as a chronic disease. Infection occurred mostly due to intravenous drug use and unprotected sex. Discussion: The participants reported that dealing with social prejudice was more difficult than living with HIV/ AIDS. Prejudice was a recurring daily experience for those who decided to reveal their serological status, and led to a practice of conceal...
