The cities of southern Peru can be understood as urban organisms shaped by the superimposition of historical, social, and territorial layers. This article offers a comparative analysis of the urban structure of Cusco, Arequipa, and Tacna through the typomorphological framework proposed by Gianfranco Caniggia and Gian Luigi Maffei, aiming to identify common patterns in their formative processes. The study applies a qualitative-comparative methodology based on the multiscalar typological process of anthropic space. Results indicate that the urban structure of these cities is influenced by territorial structuring elements, the functions of initial settlements, typical fabrics, and characteristic buildings. Specifically, Cusco presents a longitudinal structure, Arequipa an organic one, and Tacna a border-form structure. The research concludes that typomorphology is a key tool to interpret ur...

The article argues that the coronavirus-pandemic and other recent epidemics can be interpreted as unintended side effects of the expansive penetration of technical-capitalist civilization into natural areas. The ‚colonizing‘ reconfiguration of the ecological web of life and the reduction in biodiversity increase the risk of viruses being transmitted from animals to humans. A historical review makes it clear that similar processes have accompanied human civilization history and that the colonization of nature has been accelerated since the modern expanding society developed in the 16th century. The associated capitalist-technical appropriation of the web of life is currently experiencing a comprehensive social-ecological crisis. The corona crisis also exemplifies the unsustainability of the modern expanding society and its colonial relationship with nature. In order to avoid the incre...

This work is a preliminary elaboration of the data obtained in an investigation carried out in Bolivia between March and October 1977. Before entering the subject, we will briefly present the main changes in the economic structure of the country, focusing on the period 1870-1920. Then we will expose some hypotheses about the "articulation" between feudalism and capitalism. In what constitutes the heart of the work, we will analyze the processes of expropriation of communal property that occurred between 1866-1869 and 1881-1920, stopping at the social composition of the landowner sector and the peculiar structure of their economic interests, to finally arrive at some tentative conclusions.

In Latin America in recent decades it has experienced significant growth and expansion of metal mining. This phenomenon has been generated by a number of factors, among which highlights the changes in legal frameworks. From this, the present article analyzes the process of mining expansion in two countries of the region, Argentina and Peru, with special attention to the related between mining expansion and social protest. A comparative growth of the mining sector in both countries, focusing on indicators of production, investment and export analysis is presented. Then, the most significant legal changes implemented in the mining sector are described. Finally, socio-environmental protests are analyzed, proposing some reflections about that. In conclusion we consider that both countries share some similarities regarding the expansion of metal mining, the orientation of their legal framewor...

Piray 18 in Misiones (Argentina) and Paso Centurión in Cerro Largo (Uruguay) represent significant experiences of populations that managed to stop the advance of forestry. At the regional level, it has influenced the consolidation of foreign ownership and concentration of land ownership. The contexts also converge: these are areas considered productively marginal, on national borders (with Brazil and Paraguay), where hybrid forms of the national language (Spanish) coexist with subaltern languages (Jopará and Portuñol). The investigation of the subaltern politicization of local actors allows a different view of the hegemonic processes of economic, social and territorial transformation, based on the challenge to the development model installed in the policies of business promotion. The right to inhabit the territories and to a healthy environment is re-signified from these collective ex...

Following a report by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to realize the lack of specialists at national level (1), the National Commission of Medical Residency (CONAREME) expanded the number of vacancies for residentado throughout the country, so that even it extended to two admission processes last year. If it is true, the lack of specialists demanded concrete measures to improve the coverage of health care in Peru, is also true that they must go hand in hand with an adequate planning of growth in terms of quality of training, so that ensure that the education received by the new residents is with minimum quality standards (2).

The occupation of peri-urban areas in the eight largest Amazonian cities is studied, along with its impact on forest conservation, in order to identify conditions associated with greater or lesser loss of peri-urban forests. For this purpose, a comparative analysis of demographic and spatial indicators is conducted, as well as a spatial analysis of recent urban growth over forested areas. Furthermore, challenges for the conservation of peri-urban forests are discussed based on key territorial dynamics and existing mechanisms for territorial planning and management. It is identified that the greater pressure from urban growth on peri-urban forests is mainly linked to migratory processes and regional economic dynamics related to mining and tourism activities. Likewise, the trend towards reduced population and housing density in new expansion areas, along with an increase in the real estate...

The article analyzes the expansion of community kitchens in contemporary Argentina as a response to broader socio-economic processes linked to increasing poverty and social exclusion in urban contexts. It is based on a qualitative methodology that combines individual research carried out in popular neighborhoods in the city of Cordoba with a migrant population, and a collective study developed in the same city with women who lead community kitchens. The main findings show, on the one hand, the persistent difficulties encountered by low-income families (natives and migrants) to ensure their subsistence and, on the other hand, the forms of collective organization that are emerging from the urban margins to generate more dignified life sustainability strategies.

“Sustainable Construction” requires the coordinated efforts of the actors involved who manage natural resources needed for rural and urban infrastructure projects, transportation networks, irrigation canals, dams and others. Authorization for the activities of exploitation and processing non-metallic resources and ornamental rocks is regulated by Supreme Decree No. 014-92-EM, except for mining concessions located in urban and urban expansion areas, that are regulated by Law No. 27015. For Territorial Planning in Peru, a “National Urban Cadastre” is required, integrating the information of more than 1,800 municipalities with other sectors.

In the last years at international level the interconnection of electrical markets is being carried out, which makes it possible to optimize the use of energy resources and improve the reliability of the systems. This process of electrical integration generates a redistribution of benefits among agents, which also generates new problems for coordination and regulation, so there is a need to design new regulation policies based on analysis of the impacts of market interconnection. cross-border The objective of this article is to improve the understanding of the effects that interconnection will have on parameters such as: the evolution of the electricity generation park in each electrical system, the incorporation of large hydroelectric power plants especially in countries that have water complementarity and incorporation of power plants based on non-conventional renewable energy resource...

The increasing formation of glacial lakes and their expansion in recent years increases the risk of alluviums due to glacial lakes outburst floods in high tropical mountains, such as the one that destroyed part of the city of Huaraz in 1941 in the Cordillera Blanca, of the central Andes of Peru. Given the danger faced by the more than 130,000 people who inhabit the alluvial fan of Quilcay River, were analyzed the interannual variation of the surface of the Palcacocha Lake, the glacial surface of its micro-basin and the variation of the surrounding climate between the years 1984 and 2022, to determine the relationships that would exist between these variables, as an indicator of the risk of flooding due to overflow of the lake. For this, the surface of the lakes and the area of the glacier were calculated with multispectral Landsat images and compared with the result of the processing of ...
