The adult usually offers resistance to the conventional orthodontic treatments, due to the need of using visible brackets such as metallic or esthetic porcelain. The concept of Invisible esthetic Orthodontics or Lingual Orthodontics covers the expectations of this type of patient. The multibrackets technique with lingual instruments is approximately 25 years old and with the experience of the treated cases, we have conceived a totally formal technique. This article it is an up-to-date revision of the different publications of Lingual Orthodontics, where one keeps in mind the history and the development of the lingual appliance, the diagnosis and treatment plan, the clinical and laboratory phases, the lingual mechanotherapy, the current tendencies and perspectives of the future of the lingual technique.

The treatment of various skeletal malocclusions in children and young’ patients are performed applying orthopedic forces, seeking to alter growth or open sutures in certain anatomical regions. The condyle (CO) and mandibular fossa (MF) are regions that have been subjected to intense forces awaiting bone remodeling as part of the treatment. Due to the classic two-dimensional records used to assess anatomical morphological changes, many results have been controversial. With the use of tomography and modern tomographic superposition techniques, it is possible to identify these morphological changes quantitatively and qualitatively in bone structures. An integrated literature review of the morphological alterations of the CO and the MF was performed using Computed Tomography (CT) and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) in patients with Class II and Class III skeletal malocclusions who use...

Rapid Maxillary Expansion (ERM) has been classically described in the literature as a therapeutic procedure in the treatment of transverse maxillary deficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cephalometric skeletal changes on the cranial base in growing patients who had undergone rapid maxillary expansion. The material consisted of lateral radiographs taken from ten growing patients (eight male and two female) with need of rapid maxillary expansion as part of their orthodontic treatment. The age range of the patients was 7.1 to 12.7 years, and the mean age was 10.6 ± 2.04 years. Lateral radiographs of each patient were taken before treatment (T1) and immediately after the active phase of treatment (T2). The evaluated variables were: NSBa angle, NBa/F.H. angle, SN/ENA-ENP angle, F.H./ENA-ENP angle, SN/F.H. angle, S-N distance, S-Ba distance and N-Ba distance. The data were sta...

The objective of the present work was to compare the relationship skeletal sagital applying KIM’S cephalograms,Steiner and Projection USP. It was carried out the study cephalometric in 100 radiographs ofpatient without growth, with ages you enter 18 to 30 years of both genders; that they attended the clinicof orthodontics of the Unit of Post Grade of San Marcos University among the years 2005-2010. Tothe respective results they were applied the statistical test of Kappa to see the existence of agreement inwhat concerns to the skeletal relationship, among the analyses by means of their evaluation scale, besidescomparative charts. The results showed a level of low agreement among Steiner - Kim (Kappa: 0,283)Steiner - Projection USP (Kappa: 0,341) Kim-USP (Kappa: 0,277). The biggest coincidence one observesbetween the cephalograms of Steiner and Projection USP and the minor between Kim an...

A 22 year old woman with mesofacial biotype, skeletal class I and good lips profile, presented an Angle malocclusion class I with good intercuspidation of molars and premolars, moderate crowding in both arches, discrepancy of anterior Bolton for inferior excess, and decreased overjet and overbite. She was treated with a orthodontics treatment with extraction of a lower incisor, an atypical extractions in orthodontics. The success of this type of treatment needs a deep and meticulous diagnostic record, because this election of treatment will depend on a series of minimum requirements.
