Data on natural disasters of this part of the Andean margin, is only known since the earliest records of the chronicles written by the Spaniards in the conquest stage, this data has served to cataloging the major earthquakes and ENSO relatioships. The study of paleoseismicity require the application of classical geology concepts to the last deformation phase, the morphotectonic features or deformation generated by strong earthquakes or gradual tectonic deformation occurred in this particular case during the Pliocene-Quaternary. For the Lima area there is the identification and characterization of sedimentary structures generated by the seismic effect known as seismites, which correspond to unconsolidated fluvio torrential deposits, lacustrine deposits, amongst others; these deposits have a relative abundance of sedimentary structures linked to seismic events, the most common&nb...

Wetlands are fragile, unique and important ecosystems that harbour great biodiversity. However, mammalian diversity in wetlands along the Peruvian coast is poorly known. We present data on the diversity and abundance of small mammals from four wetlands located on the central Peruvian coast: Albufera de Medio Mundo, Pantanos de Villa Wildlife Refuge, Ensenada San Antonio, and Caucato. We used conventional traps to survey rodents and mist nets combined with acoustic recording methods to survey bats. Our sampling effort totalled 4651 traps/night, 145 nets/night, and 48 hours/detector. We recorded 5 native species of rodents, 3 non-native rodents, 12 species of bats, and one marsupial. The rodent Akodon mollis and the bats Nyctinomops laticaudatus and N. macrotis are the first records for the department of Lima. The wild guinea pig is distributed along the central and southern Peruvian coast...

The imposex is a phenomenon that consists in the development of masculine sexual characteristics on the reproductive system of the gastropod female snails by organotin compounds (OTs), like tributyl tin (TBT). In the present study, the imposex was evaluated in Crassilabrum crassilabrum Sowerby, 1834 (Neogastropoda: Muricidae) from the central coast of Peru, for which individuals were collected from the intertidal zone of Pucusana and Ancon, Lima. Biometric measurements were taken and the rates of imposex were calculated. The percentage of imposex in Ancon was of 98% and in Pucusana of 100%. The index of relative length of the penis (RPLI) was 52.3% and 44.5% for Pucusana and Ancon, respectively. A significant relationship was found between the length of the conchilla and the length of the penis in males on both beaches, but not in females. Crassilabrum crassilabrum is a mollusk with appl...

This research study presents a general review of the Peruvian Central Coast during the Intermediate Late Period based on new archaeological evidence and current studies. We intend to establish the factors of change in the Ychsma society. To do this, we discuss the concepts of culture, space, style and ceramic workshops. Finally, a preliminary identification takes into account tables of climatic oscillation and association with the evolution of societies during the Intermediate Late Period and are used as evidence to interpret these complex change.

In the present research we evaluated the antibacterial and antifungical activity of marine actinomycetes over pathogen of clinical origin. Likewise, it was evaluated the capacity to produce extracellular enzymes like carbohidrases, lipases and proteases. The Actinomycetes were isolated from sediments collected between September to December 2005 of Ancón (Lima) and Independencia (Ica) Bays at depths of 34 and 100 m. The isolation was performed in Casein - Starch Agar (CSA) and Marine Agar (AM) with addition of Cicloheximide (10 μg/mL). The antimicrobial evaluations were done comparing them with pathogenic antibiotic-multiresistant bacteria and fungi from clinical origin; in as much, to evaluate their multienzimatic activity several polimeric substrates were used. A total of 62 actinomycetes were isolated, 31 of there (50%) showed antibacterial activity in opposite to Staphylococcus aure...

The aim of this study was to compare the productive performance of two guinea pig meat lines (Cavia porcellus) reared in the central coast of Peru. Two genetic lines of guinea pigs were used during the growth and fattening stage: a group of 20 male guinea pig, progeny of improved guinea pigs in the Peruvian highlands, meat line G, and another group of 20 improved male guinea pigs in the Peruvian coast, meat line H. The guinea pigs were reared in individual cages from weaning (15 ± 2 days) until week 11, receiving the same diet based on Zea mays var. indurata, wheat bran and fresh water. The birth weight for guinea pigs G and H was 146.5 ± 28.2 and 119.0 ± 19.2 g, respectively, the weaning weight was 306.5 ± 49.1 and 227.0 ± 58.2, respectively, and the weight at week 11 was 965.5 ± 100.2 and 868.0 ± 91.6, respectively (p<0.05 in all cases). No significant difference was found in...

The study was carried out at the Cieneguilla guinea pig farm of La Molina National Agrarian University, Lima. The objective of the study were to evaluate the association of fixed factors such as season (E), parity (NP), and covariates such as maternal weight at parity (PMP), total born (TN), number of live births (LB) and age at weaning (EDC) with total born (TN), number born alive (NV), number weaned (ND), litter weight at birth (PCN), and litter weight at weaning (PCD), and to estimate phenotypic correlations between the maternal traits. Data was collected from 1302 litters collected from January 2009 to July 2010. Analysis of variance and F tests were performed using the GLM procedure of SAS (v. 9.1). The statistical analysis for TN and NV adjusted for the covariate PMP differences were obtained for E and NP (p<0.01); for ND adjusted for the covariate PMP differences were obtained ...

This study aimed to characterize some of the ingredients typical of the ceramic phase Ichma Beginner, it is used exclusively for qualifying order stylistic parameters, to establish categories confrontations and contrasts. We believe that this is even necessary to create appropriate methodological tools to achieve results of greater explanatory scope and accuracy. In this process shows that the conformation of the different styles that make up the complex stylistic Ichma called Initial, involving both internal and external factors. Each has a different degree and mode of penetration and influence. In the second instance can be seen that the styles are not organized the same way. So much so that the form and decoration (where there are elements associated with the technique, composition and design), may each of them an independent movement, and to no stylistic traditions related to particu...

During the last years of Huaca Pucllana Project of Research, Conservation and Re-Valuation (PICPVHP), directed by Dr. Isabel Flores Espinoza, the Wari funerary contexts found on top of the Great Pyramid have become the main focus of study. There, several elements were found on the site in good state of preservation, such as structures, funerary bundles and offerings. The present article deals with these offerings and their study, and it suggests a typology inside the Wari funerary objects, which provide us information about the people who were buried there and the participants during the funerary ritual, according to their position, specific features and contents. All of this takes into consideration the analysis of bone remains, fabric and vegetal tissue by the Project’s specialists. These analysis are done in order to obtain results that will help us with the discussion of this topic...

Reproductive records (n=6350) of a dairy herd between 2000 and the first semester of 2016 were used based on the reproductive indices of the herd, considering the number of services per pregnancy, open days, pregnancy rate and occurrence of abortions. In total, 58 Holstein cows selected at random were genotyped to determine the presence of reproductive haplotypes (HH) that affect the reproductive performance of cows causing abortions. It was determined that 5.2% of the cows were carriers for HH1, 5.2% for HH3 and 3.4% for HH5, not finding carrier animals for the HH2 and HH4 haplotypes. Besides, 75% of the carrier cows (6/8) presented abortions not associated with the haplotype, except for one event whose reproducer was a carrier for HH3. Likewise, 54% of the non-carrier cows presented abortion events (27/50), not establishing a direct effect of the haplotype on the occurrence of abortion...

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of age at first calving (AFC) on the standardized production of milk (SMP) of the first and second lactation and interval between the first two calvings (CI) in Holstein cows of the Lima region, Peru. Records of 4215 cows from nine farms, registered in the Dairy Productivity Service of the National Agrarian University La Molina, between January 2003 and December 2012 were analysed. The information was analysed through descriptive statistics and by a mixed linear model, using SAS 9.4. The average AFC was 24.9 ± 2.3 months. The AEPP influenced on the SMP (p=0.0008), but not in the IEP (p=0.3969). Likewise, significant differences were found (p<0.01) between the two lactations, between the four seasons of the year and between the 10 years evaluated for the two variables under study. In conclusion, higher SMP and lower CI were observed at...
