The aim of this study was to extract collagen from the waste produced in the processing of anchovies (canned and surimi). To this end, non-collagenous proteins was solubilized with a solution of 0,1N sodium hydroxide and neutralized with successive washes with water (pH close to neutral). Then, the residues were decalcified with a EDTA 0,5M solution; degreased with butanol 10% and finally the collagen protein were solubilized with acetic acid 0,5M and precipitated with sodium chloride 2,6M. Collagen precipitated was dialyzed and lyophilized. The hydroxyproline content (Hip) were quantified in waste and lyophilized collagen, getting the values of 6,5 and 52,9 mg of hydroxyproline/g sample, respectively. The solubility of lyophilized collagen decreased about 40% at a concentration of 12% NaCl. Gel electrophoresis showed a strong band of approximately 110 kDa molecular weight that correspon...

During their university years, the student of architecture carries out several hands-on works that are essential for their academic development such as the making of models, plans, and reports that are mostly discharged later without considering their value. Therefore, the aim of this research was to analyze the management of solid waste generated in the FAUA-UPAO Architecture Program, considering the principles of the 5Rs and the recycling culture that students have. For this, the waste produced was sorted out based on its lifetime and toxicity level. Secondly, 218 surveys were applied to students chosen under simple random sampling probability in order to know their ecological habits and their predisposition for recycling, obtaining an estimate of the amount of materials used and discarded at the end of the academic semester; likewise, an interview was conducted with the university boa...

The research aimed to determine the differences in the influence of cognitive processes on the intention to segregate solid waste between university women and men. The cognitive processes studied are explained using the theory of protection motivation as a basis. The study sample was 189 students from a public university, stratified into 97 women and 92 men. For inferential statistics, the normality test and simple linear regression analysis were used. The results indicate that there is a significant positive influence of cognitive processes on the intention to segregate. It was also evidenced that, although women show a greater influence, the difference with men is not significant. It is concluded that, although it is important to take into account the difference in the influence of the cognitive processes of women and men when designing segregation programs in universities; apparently,...

This paper presents a study that aimed to determine the mechanism of a process for Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions, using compost of carnation crop residues as the adsorbent. We assessed whether the microbiota present in the absorbent material affected the removal of Cr(VI) using respirometric measurements and evaluating the removal capacity using sterilized and not sterilized compost. Additionally, the compost was analysed before and after carrying out the Cr(VI) removal process, by quantification of the acidic functional groups and kinetic monitoring of pH, conductivity and redox potential difference. The results showed that, under the conditions used, the microorganisms present in the compost did not affect the process of Cr(VI) removal and that the mechanism can be described by an adsorption model coupled to the reduction, were this adsorption is mainly done on the acidic funct...

Compost is a natural fertilizer that is obtained from the use of solid organic waste, limiting the environmental impact that it causes. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the influence of Mende and water in the pH stabilization, and the efficiency of the compost made from waste from green areas of the District of Tacna. A 3x3 multilevel factorial design was used. It was verified that a dose of 1.5 L of Mende and 33.5 L of water achieve a pH of 7.95 and a compost obtaining efficiency of 38.80 %. After laboratory analysis, it was determined that this compost managed to meet the internationally required parameters (temperature, organic matter, C/N ratio, humidity, total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) in the EPA 40CFR 503, Mexico NTEA-006 – SMA-2006 and Chile Nch 2880 2004. It was concluded that it is possible to take advantage of the waste from green areas in the city...

In this work an alternative is presented for the wastewater treatment in the University City of the UNMSM with the use of wetlands. Many «natural systems» they are being considered with the purpose of the wastewater treatment and control of the contamination of the water. The interest in the natural systems this based on the conservation of the resources associated with these systems like opposed to the process of conventional for wastewater treatment that is intensive regarding the energy use and chemical. The wetlands are one of the many types of natural systems that can be used for the treatment and control of the contamination. According to U.S. EPA (1983). «A wetland is built specifically with the purpose of to control the contamination and to manage the waste, in a place where a natural wetland exists. The form in that these wetlands works has similarity with the biological proc...

The aim of this work is the evaluation of both adsorption-desorption mechanisms of hexavalent chromium in two metallurgical wastes. These processes were investigated using batch tests. Theses wastes correspond to the metallurgical processes of Ni-Co recovery in Cuban industries. The first one (called SAL-waste) is originated by sulphuric acid leaching and the second one (ACL-waste) is the by-product of ammonia-carbonate metallurgical leaching. The wastes are mainly constituted by iron minerals. Grain size distribution is poorly graded with a average value of diameter is about 0.02 mm. The adsorption isotherms of Cr in ACL and SAL are strongly non-linear and well described by the Freundlich equations (S = Kf Cn w). Desorption isotherms of Cr in both wastes are near-linear and illustrate very well the presence of a hysteretic process. The time of Cr adsorption short and desorption is very ...

The province of Soto Norte (Santander), Colombia, is known for its mining tradition in the municipalities of Vetas and California. Four centuries ago, mining exploitation was developed and environmental liabilities were generated, which put at risk in activity. Many defend the topographic and vegetal restoration of exhausted mining operations, burying them or sealing them. However, when these works have brought out mineral outcrops of worldwide interest or have allowed access to galleries excavated many centuries ago that have provided valuable archaeological remains that have served to learn a little more about our history. Therefore, in the face of the generally accepted idea that the restoration of a mining waste inevitably passes through its burial or sealing. Geotourism around the mining industry is an emerging sector that contributes not only to the diffusion of the interesting geo...

Hazardous wastes include those materials due to their corrosive, reactive, explosive, toxic, flammable or biohazard characteristics, pose a risk to human health and the environment when handled improperly. The type of treatment depends on the characteristics of the waste. The most commonly used treatments are physical, chemical. biological and thermal. Treatment processes also generate waste, which must be deposited in a special landfill or security deposit.
