There is a growing call for inventories that evaluate geographic patterns in diversity of plant genetic resources maintained on farm and in species' natural populations in order to enhance their use and conservation. Such evaluations are relevant for useful tropical and subtropical tree species, as many of these species are still undomesticated, or in incipient stages of domestication and local populations can offer yet-unknown traits of high value to further domestication. For many outcrossing species, such as most trees, inbreeding depression can be an issue, and genetic diversity is important to sustain local production. Diversity is also crucial for species to adapt to environmental changes. This paper explores the possibilities of incorporating molecular marker data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to allow visualization and better understanding of spatial patterns of genet...

Electrodes for Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSCs) were made using ZnO nanoparticles deposited over conductive substrates of SnO2:F (FTO). ZnO nanoparticles were obtained by the wet ball milling technique. Then these particles were used to make a viscous paste which was deposited over the substrate by the dr. lade method. After sintering, the electrodes were sensitized with organic and metalorganic dyes like D35 and N719 respectively during 14 hours. Liquid electrolytes with redox mediators like iodide/ triiodide redox cuple and cobalt complexes were used. Also platinum and polymer (PEDOT) covers were used like counterelectrodes. Sealed cells reported efficiencies values as high as 1.6% and values for incident photo conversion efficiency (IPCE) close to 60% at 500nm.

Avocado crop (Persea americana Mill.) is of great commercial importance due to its high profitability. However, it is being affected by various diseases and pests that affect yield and reduce fruit quality. The aim of this research was to develop methodologies for the evaluation of avocado plantations using different non-destructive technologies for rapid phenotyping and early detection of the incidence of diseases or damage due to stress in the stem. A plot of 0.7 ha. was evaluated, with a total of 44 individuals using Field-Map technology (dasometric and morphological characterization), RGB-multispectral images from Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) (rapid phenotyping), while 15 individuals were evaluated using tomography (assessment of the internal state of the stem). The results with tomography indicated that there is a tree with wood rot of 14% with a lower acoustic speed with...

Currently, the contribution to the PBI of the construction sector has increased, which generates a greater demand for its products. Also, the production of paints fails to meet the demand generated, so the problem to be addressed in this article is the use of production capacity in a manufacturer of industrial paints with an annual turnover of approximately 80 million soles, which currently uses an average of 53.29% of its installed capacity, below the 69.7% average of the sector, generating large losses of money for the company. The case study was carried out so that it can be replicated with other companies with a similar context and generate added value to the sector, therefore an improvement model is proposed by applying the tools and methodology of Aggregate Planning, Autonomous TPM and SRM through the integrated application of the above mentioned providing an efficient production p...

We report the results of the application of the Model-based Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm for a 3×3 MIMO balls mill grinding system by using computational simulation and Monte Carlo data generation. For this purpose, the system has been identified through a reduced scheme of Volterra formalism by which the proposed methodology has required to employ up to 20 parameters. Subsequently, the model enters in a framework of MPC which targets to control the particle size, one of the most important output variables in this study. According to the simulation results the system identification error is of order of 3%, whereas the MPC scheme applied to control a desired set-point namely 75 %-200mesh is accompanied by a deviation of ±5%. Since the balls mill grinding circuit is a nonlinear system, it is expected that the system might collapse as consequence of the accumulated circulant load. T...

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a crop of global importance that has center of origin in Peru, with 11 species of wild relatives (CWR) occurring in the country. These CWR contain genetic material that could be used to improve currently cultivated species, and that is usually stored ex situ in germplasm banks. Hence, assessing the representativeness of germplasm banks is important to strengthen genetic improvement of tomatoes as well as their resilience to globally changing conditions. Here, we used gap analysis methodology on the 11 species of tomato CWR occurring in Peru. This methodology consists in seven steps that consider representativeness in terms of herbaria/germplasm banks, geography and environments within the country, in order to establish conservation priorities. We also assessed conservation priorities for the Instituto Nacional de Innovación Agraria (INIA), which is the m...
