The presentation of the cyber language as one of the variations of the language includes a discussion on its nature as an intermediate form between oral language and written language and the forces responsible for the linguistic changes. On the one hand, we have the popular usage that has given rise to the constant evolution of the language and, on the other hand, the educated speech which strives to recover its etymological form (Betancourt, 2010). The objective of the present study is to analyze the linguistic phenomena present in the texts listed on the Facebook page called “Confessions” of 6 Peruvian universities, 3 from the city of Arequipa and 3 subsidiaries of Lima universities in this city. The corpus consists of 70 texts, the design is transversal, descriptive and documentary and we used as a tool a registration form of linguistic variations in which spelling, lexical-semant...

Users of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) have a lower intention to receive vaccines. Furthermore, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region are among the most affected areas by the COVID-19 pandemics and present a high proportion of CAM users. Therefore, this study evaluates the association between the consumption of herbal supplements or homeopathic remedies to prevent COVID-19 and the intention to vaccinate against COVID-19 in the LAC region. We conducted a secondary data analysis of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) survey with Facebook to assess COVID-19 beliefs, behaviours, and norms. Crude and adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR) with their respective 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated using generalized linear models of the Poisson family with the log link function. The prevalence of the use of products to prevent COVID-19 was the following: c...

Overall objective of this study was to determine the relationship between family functioning and suicidal ideation, in a sample of fifth year of secondary education in the District of San Juan de Miraflores. The sample was conformed by 104 students of both sexes of two educational institutions. Applied instruments were the scale for suicide ideation of Beck (ISB) and the scale of family functioning (family APGAR). Results revealed a significant relationship was found of (p < to 0.05), suicide ideation and family functioning, furthermore this relationship is inverse, so it is concluded that lower family functioning, increased suicidal ideation, and vice versa. Also adolescents in the sample have a medium level of suicidal ideation, and a severe level of family dysfunction, so we also found a significant relationship between the dimensions of attitude towards life and death, characteris...

Universities have become brands that use Instagram to attract potential students and generate a sense of community among actual members. This study aims to compare how the best-positioned universities in the world and in Spain, according to the Shanghai ranking, use Instagram as a communication channel. To do this, a mixed descriptive exploratory analysis is chosen, combining qualitative variables, format, discursive intention and function of the visual element; and quantitative, interactions and engagement, to analyze the posts from the first trimester of the 2021/2022 academic year (N = 820). The combined interpretation of both parameters after applying the ANOVA variance test has allowed us to formulate two preliminary publication models. The results reveal heterogeneity in the strategies followed, with differences in format, intention and function of the visual element, in addition t...

This paper analyzes the concept of active listening from two epistemological perspectives: as a disposition and as a technique, showing that although they are different, they are interrelated and can be either complementary or irreconcilable, depending on the theoretical approach adopted. Active listening as a disposition is related to the internal attitudes of the therapist or facilitator, such as authenticity, empathy, and unconditional acceptance—characteristic of humanistic psychotherapy. This approach values the human encounter and the relationship as ends in themselves. In contrast, active listening as a technique refers to observable behaviors (such as paraphrasing or emotional validation), typical of models focused on problem-solving and behavioral change. From this perspective, active listening is a means to achieve specific goals. The article proposes applying the concept of ...

Introduction: Assertive behavior in adolescence is important for well-being and socio-emotional functioning, therefore having valid instruments that are comparable across subgroups is essential. The Assertive Behavior Self-Report (ADCA-1) is frequently used, but its structure and equivalence across gender and age in adolescent populations require further evidence. Objective: To determine the psychometric properties and factorial invariance of the Assertive Behavior Self-Report (ADCA-1) in adolescents. Method: An instrumental design was used, with a non-probabilistic intentional sample consisting of 229 students aged 14 to 17 years (M = 15.44; SD = .82), 50.7% were male and 49.3% female. The instrument used was the Assertive Behavior Self-Report (ADCA-1). Results: Data were analyzed through a CFA for polychoric matrices and a WLSMV estimator, f...

“Objective: We aimed to evaluate the association between sleep quality and erectile dysfunction in young university students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in men aged 18–30 years from Universidad Ricardo Palma, Lima, Peru. The survey comprised the International Index of Erectile Function, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Berlin questionnaire, and questions related to sociodemographic data. Prevalence ratios were estimated with generalized linear models. Results: Of 381 participants, the median age was 23 years. Half of the students (50.9%) had poor sleep quality, of which 72.7% had mild erectile dysfunction and 20.6% mild to moderate dysfunction. Prevalence of erectile dysfunction was significantly higher in students with poor sleep quality than in students with good sleep quality (aPR = 6.48; 95% CI: 4.58–9.17) after adjusting for age, academic year, nutritional ...

In Peruvian Spanish the double possessive of the third person is observed in the speech variation among speakers in the following canonic form: article + N de + N (e.g., las primas de mi yerno) [literally, the cousins of my son-in-law] vs. possessive + N de + N (e.g., su hijo de mi hermana) [literally, her son of my sister]. We believe that this “redundant” genitive has expanded the function of removing ambiguity between two possessors and has begun a redistribution of semantic content as a significant signal, a specialized pragmatic tool or an intentional mechanism that expresses empathy in the face of an established relationship possessor-possessed. Our speech corpus is made up of interviews to Peruvian residents in Buenos Aires, a fact which has permitted us to distinguish between the meaning of the forms and the message in multi-cultural contexts. In that sense, the question “W...
