In Ayacucho-Chanca Quechua, corporeal terms evoke different domains or conceptual frameworks. The objective is to clarify the nature of the polysemic behavior of these corporeal terms. Theoretically, it starts from a set of principles that govern the phenomenon of polysemy within the framework of cognitive linguistics. Methodologically, the data has been obtained from an elicitation process. The results allow reaffirming the metaphor and metonymy as necessary procedures, but (at the same time) insufficient to explain the generation of new meanings. The explanation also requires an interactional process.

Learning-by-doing is an educational theory which establishes that the students learn in a more effective way if they are involved in experiences of the real world instead of passively listening. In the HCI course of the Master Program in Informatics, of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the professors proposed the active-learning approach for the teaching of several topics related to HCI such as usability, user-centered design, human factors, accessibility, ergonomics and internationalization that are nowadays relevant concepts for the design process of graphical user interfaces. For this purpose, we received the committed collaboration of a local financial entity, the BBVA Continental Bank, which voluntarily agreed to establish a set of requirements for the design of GUIs that support the implementation of new features in ATMs. This proposed exercise has allowed the students t...

In order to evaluate the forms of interaction in the main Instagramers from Peru and Colombia, an exploratory analysis of their profiles was carried out on the Instagram audiovisual platform during 2019. For this reason, firstly, the Heepsy tool was used to establish the influencers with greater impact within the platform in both countries and then, through the monitoring tools Fan Page Karma and Social Blade, to determine a set of variables and parameters regarding their interaction. The results show that the audience index is higher for Instagramers from Colombia than for the ones from Peru. In addition, there is a clear trend among digital audiences to value content through likes as a sign of interaction with it, but on the other hand, there is a representative decrease in expressing their impressions with words and comments regarding what they observe; this is also established by the...

The Feminist HCI is characterized as the integration of feminist theory into HCI practice, which can occur at all stages of the design process, including user research, prototyping and evaluation. However, there is still a research gap on the integration of feminism with established HCI methods. An HCI methodology that is also concerned with human values and the possible consequences of technological artifacts is Value Sensitive Design (DSV). The present work seeks to answer how to include Feminism HCI in the HCI Project with the VSD. This research took place in the context of ELLAS Project, an Open Data platform that aims to contribute to the reduction of the gender difference in STEM in Brazil, Peru and Bolivia.

Hiring processes are intended to recruit and retain ideal candidates; those who would generate competitive value in an organization. In an increasingly global context, the challenge is often costly, inefficient, and complex. Even though artificial intelligence already solves specific tasks with greater speed, precision, and efficiency in various fields, and in different companies, in the area of human resources the desirability of the use of data science continues to be debated. By reviewing cases and research, in which the integration of artificial intelligence applications in the selection processes was tested, measuring and socializing impacts, I contribute to the current discussion aimed at overcoming the mistrust that exists by default, and that is associated with the ethical challenges and risks t assumed to solve a human problem through technology. I conclude that it is possible t...

Currently, development teams face many challenges when designing user interfaces. There are more, and more, new methodologies, processes and techniques to make user-centered design. However, these teams often lack specific techniques or methods to accomplish these designs themselves in a real-world development process. The following is a proposal of a user-centered design approach through a case study. The approach was applied to successfully redesign the main menu of an ATM interface of a Peruvian Bank. In this iteration, the convenience of aligning the proposal with proven methodologies such as Design Thinking was observed. This proposal continues to be applied successfully in the development process of the ATM team of said bank.

This research evaluates the communication that the 60 accredited universities in Ecuador develop on their websites. The objective is to determine the importance they attach to interactive communication and to analyze whether there is association with institutional factors, with the position in world rankings and with the website traffic. Content analysis was used and a Web Communication Index –WCI– was created to identify the presence of communication management and the adoption of interactive channels in the portals; the Similar Web tool was also used. Among the main results, it was found that the universities sites have low levels of traffic in their category, that the presence of communication management is minimal, and that there are statistically significant differences according to the type of financing and the year of foundation. Assessing the potential of websites is key to i...

Nowadays, the design of usable interfaces is a challenge for every software developer. Little or no consideration of the user-centered design guidelines make systems difficult to use, and the embedded systems in the Automated Teller Machines (ATM) are not an exception to this problem. In order to improve and ensure the usability of the user interfaces of software in this domain, several user-centered design methods and techniques were analyzed and applied to formulate a framework for guiding a design process. The paper provides an analysis of a variety of methods used in the self-service technologies domain and by formal design methodologies; for instance, the standard ISO 13047. In addition, the article describes the process followed to select the most appropriate user-centered design methods that fit the specific ATM domain. This analysis includes surveys and expert judgment, conducted...

ATMs are widely used around the world, which leads to the development of new functionalities that need to consider usability. For this reason, the following article presents the development of graphical interfaces for ATM of BBVA Continental Bank, which follows a user-centered process design. In the first place, we gathered information about our target user. Then, we developed a prototype based on the previous information and the needs of the bank, which also took into account expert’s feedback. Finally, real users in the bank itself validated the prototypes.

The need to develop a BCI brain- computer interface system for the   control   of   a   robotic   arm   in   Peru   arises   from   the   possibility   of interconnecting the human nervous system with a robotic or mechatronic system, and using this concept to recover some motor function.   Brain   Computer   Interface   (BCI)   is   a   communication   system  based  on  the  recording  of  brain  signals  (EEG).  The electroencephalogram is the basis and support of the BCI technology. It is a novel technology that allows human-machine interaction in a virtual or physical environment, through a communication channel between the central nervous system and a robotic device. In recent years,  the  aforementioned  systems  have  caused  the  interest  of important research centers worldwide.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of sex and individual variation on the behavioural responses and performance of Simbrah bovines subjected to a habituation process to human interaction and exposure training. Nineteen animals were used (8 females and 11 males). Reactivity was assessed through points in the restraint cage (1-5), a score for cage exit speed (1-2), and body weight in five assessments over 86 days. Linear mixed models and the effect of individual variations were adopted through a linear regression for each animal, using the b coefficients to classify the animals as habituated, neutral and sensitized. The sex of the animal did not affect the reactivity in the restraint cage, or the cage exit speed (p>0.05); however, reactivity decreased from day 16 (p<0.05) in relation to day 0 in both reactivity scores. There were individual differences in reactivity in ...

The implementation of the competency-based approach in a multi-level education system has posed the problem of continuity of its levels. The search for common grounds in choosing the content and results of education has intensified. The scientific interest in the student’s experience has grown, as the basic basis for the formation of competencies. Experience is an extremely general category in the scientific apparatus of many sciences, such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, pedagogy, and understanding of its essential properties determines the choice of the content of education. Increasingly, the experience of human behavior in a changing society is becoming the subject of research by educators. Educational standards for training specialists in the sociogenic sphere contain a capacious block of social competencies formed in the educational process at the meta-subject and subject le...
