The article presents the results about processes related to project management, with the aim of proposing a methodology based on Lean Construction and the fundamentals of the PMBOK Guide; that allows to improve the productivity of construction projects. The methodology obtained from integrating the Last Planner Planning scenario, the planning process group, as well as the PMI scenario monitoring and control process group (Fundamentals of the PMBOK Guide); will optimize the factors that affect the planning and monitoring and control of construction projects by improving their productivity; reflected in the improvement of the quality, time and cost of the project. The optimization of the Sub-profile profiling process without material input generated great results (outputs) such as the reduction of the time (execution period) from 98 days to 68 days and the reduction of the cost of S/. 255,...

The construct validity of six hypothesized dimensions was explored for an Accountancy majorgraduation examination, in order to understand the underlying process of responding. Using answers from 313 examinees to an intentional sample of 17 objective items administered on large scale, a confirmatory factorial analysis was carried out, with a Multi-Trait Multi-Method matrix (MTMM): Traits represented three cognitive operations required to solve the items and the methods represented three knowledge fields of the content. Each item was linked to a cog- nitive operation and to a knowledge field. The resulting model showed convergent validity in two constructs and its manifest variables and divergent only between technical and combined knowledge. Thus, the answering process was explained, simultaneously by the Understanding operation influenced by Theoretical knowledge. Implications to...

In the context of the sociocultural approach, the authors studied the problem of the development of the students’ conceptual mental structures in the process of geometry teaching. An educational activity for the development of a generalized ability to solve geometry construction problems in electronic educational environment served as a development means. The objective of the research is to introduce a characteristic of the technology for the formation of the students’ generalized ability to solve geometry construction problems in electronic educational environment focusing on the development of conceptual mental structures. The key factor is the transition from the content-based mathematics teaching to instrument and value-based one, which corresponds to the transformation of the content sphere of mathematical knowledge into procedural and contextual. Construction problems introduce...

The concept of soundscape was incorporated in the late 1960s, from the field of acoustics and music, to address the problem of excessive noise in cities and disorderly urban planning, which has led to residential areas ‒which are supposed to be quiet‒ are juxtaposed with commercial and/or production activities that degrade the quality of hearing life. Starting in 2002, it was realized that the concept of soundscape could also be used as a tool to build a sound identity, whether to preserve historical sound environments, rescue “lost” sound activities from anthropology or create auditorily healthy zones within the cities. Barcelona is the first city that took the initiative to establish large blocks in order to reduce urban noise based on the particular acoustic study of each neighborhood, defining a differentiated sound landscape to preserve. Since 2012, acousticians from all ove...

More than a year ago, Ecuador suffered a 7.8 Mw earthquake that was devastating, the automatic response was to run to the affected areas and rebuild.  Meche’s House is an alternative: the crisis as an opportunity to experiment and consolidate popular construction systems based on an endogenous and holistic approach. This study evaluates two case studies and their contrasting methodologies in their process of selecting beneficiaries for post-disaster reconstruction: Casa Lista of Mutualista Pichincha and La Casa de Meche, differentiating both cases from analyzing their different approaches: the automatic one, non-reflective and product-based, the other analytical and process-based. Founded on experience and how different processes need different beneficiaries, this study will raise some questions about the effectiveness, pros, cons, and perspectives of different approaches to right...

The author analyzes the problems facing the criminal process today in terms of witness-victim testimony in gender-based crimes that are the product of unbridled populism and citizen dissatisfaction. It is necessary to avoid any gender bias that could lead to irrational judicial decisions, without diminishing the procedural guarantees, especially those that assist those investigated.

Learning-centered models, which rely on active methodologies such as Project-Based Learning (PBL), should be adopted in undergraduate programs to potentiate the development of collaboration skills within future industry professionals like civil engineers. Thus, this study reports the implementation of PBL in two successive Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) courses from an undergraduate civil engineering program: 1) VDC I, in which the VDC methodology implementation was applied theoretically in an already-built project, and 2) VDC II, in which the VDC methodology implementation was applied in a currently-under-construction project. The study's objective is to identify students' perceptions of PBL influence on their learning experience, degree of acquisition of generic competencies, and project development under the VDC methodology. To assess the PBL and VDC implementation, a survey wa...

It is attempted to show the possibilities of symbolic representation under an interdisciplinary approach, from Art and Architecture applied to the peripheral problems of the environment and to their reconstruction from the territory, evidencing a symbolic heritage based on the production of cartographies that show ethical-aesthetic values as a possibility of representation of the visual memory contained in the belonging processes occurring in the city of Metropolitan Lima. How could we view these reconstruction processes made by our memory around the spaces where we live and participate or how could migration paths be evidenced from that perspective? A methodology is proposed based on three phases of recognition of a personal route of rearrangement of individual history which starts from topographic knowledge of the territory in the reconstruction of personal experiences, to develop then ...

Nowadays, the construction industry has become the main and great engine of the global economic recovery after the effects of covid-19, generating around 10.7 trillion dollars worldwide, and it is residential construction, specifically, the one in charge of driving growth in the short term, thanks to the constant demand for residential spaces. In this sense, various challenges such as new technologies, the complexity of projects, and a growing competitive environment, force the main contractor to subcontract between 80 and 90% of the activities, thus evidencing that subcontracting is an applied and necessary process in every construction project, and making subcontractors the backbone of the procurement strategy. However, one of the main risks of subcontracting is the inadequate selection of the construction subcontractor, which is often based solely on the criteria of selecting the know...

Depression is a major public health problem that affects a significant proportion of young adults, such as college students. A process-based approach has been proposed for its study, which seeks to identify transdiagnostic psychological variables that can be the target of change in psychotherapeutic interventions. The purpose of this paper was to analyze the interrelation between a set of process variables (cognitive fusion, rumination, and experiential avoidance), as well as to examine the relationship between each of these variables and depression in 368 college students aged 18–29 years (M = 21.35, SD = 2.36, 77.7% female). Cognitive fusion and rumination were found to comprise an overarching variable termed hyperreflexivity, while experiential avoidance constituted a different construct. By analyzing a structural equation model, it was found that only hyperreflexivity predicted dep...

The construction sector in Peru is growing and is one of the most important, representing 19% of GDP. However, currently, in the construction industry, there is a high rate of non-contributory time, that is, the activities carried out during the construction process have a large percentage of time dedicated to activities that do not add value and lead to losses. This research attempts to reduce the high rate of non-contributory time (NCT) in building maintenance services in a Peruvian company in the construction sector. To achieve this, a conceptual model at the managerial level based on Lean tools such as Kanban, 5S, TPM was proposed.

The Peruvian AEC industry has started implementing VDC and BIM in public projects due to recent regulations that state the progressive adoption of BIM (as a methodology) in public construction. Regardless of the benefits of these new approaches, some challenges to VDC implementation have emerged as a response to the resistance to change of the Peruvian AEC industry, which is stronger in the Peruvian public sector. The aim of this paper is to present the challenges found in the author´s VDC implementation experience in a public project, as part of the third VDC Certificate Program in Lima lead by CIFE from Stanford University. These challenges will be identified based on a schema, constructed by the literature review. The results show that the main challenges found are the lack of commitment and the lack of collaboration between stakeholders. These results suggest the need to overcome th...

The construction industry has long been suffering from high rates of non-contributory time. Construction processes are likely to include time, which is sometimes lost for non-value-adding operations resulting in time waste. Considering the large percentage of lost time in all operations, this study aims to reduce the high rate of non-contributory time (NCT) in construction services. To test the management model, a Peruvian company was selected as a study case. In this respect, a management model based on mostly implemented Lean tools such as Kanban, 5S, and TPM was utilized. It is of utmost importance to emphasize that this proposal aims to reduce the NCT by up to 25%, as well as reduce the number of orders generated with delay, and eventually reduce the loss or damage of materials and equipment stoppages.
