The objective of this article is to describe the satisfaction of students with the use of technological simulation tools in learning in the automatic process control course, as part of the pedagogical update in the context of dis-tance education. The Academic Satisfaction Scale (ESA) was used as a meas-urement instrument, the reliability of the data was performed through Cronbach's alpha, giving a consistencyvalue of 0.949. When developing the re-search, it was determined that 56.8% of the students are satisfied with the aca-demic experience of their learning using technological simulation tools in the virtual environment. On the other hand, 11.4% of students indicated that the content transmitted in this course does not excite them and they do not feel comfortable, these results will allow generating feedback to the teacher in their pedagogical techniques and teaching methods. Likewise,...

Morris water maze (MWM) test is widely used to evaluate the learning and memory deficits in rodents. Image processing and pattern recognition can be used to analyse videos and recognize automatically the tracking in MWM. There are several commercial and free access software that allows analyzing the behavioral tasks although they also have limitations such as automation, cost, user intervention among other things. The aim of this paper was to develop a new image processing technique to automatically analyse the track of the rat in the MWM, which we called RatsTrack. The MWM test was performed with an animal model for Alzheimer, and the videos were recorded to measure the distance, time, and speed. The segmentation method based on the projection of the video frames was made for pool identification, eliminating the rat, while conserving the shape of the pool. Then, the Hough transformation...

In current supply chains, the use of AIDC technologies allows the information that flows to be standardized and reliable, as well as obtaining a series of advantages related to saving time and costs. In Cuba, the use of these technologies is not regulated by national laws and most companies do not use them, considering ignorance of their effectiveness as the cause. This article analyzes AIDC technologies: specifically, bar code systems and radio frequency systems, their operation and benefits of their use in supply chains. Based on the existing need, a tool was designed based on a procedure that establishes a guide for the selection of technologies to be implemented in logistics processes. The tool designed is used for Case Studies to know its application and mode of use.

The project describes the design and implementation of an automatic system for detecting defects in plastic crates for glass bottles. In all companies there is damage and defects in their cases, crates, or containers due to constant use, as they are reusable, and therefore this problem causes various economic losses and a decrease in production, especially in beverage companies. This system was designed to solve and prevent the crates from having defects in their base and containing waste inside, to obtain less product losses in the bottle packaging area. In this research, it is proposed to design the automatic system, which consists of training a convolutional neural network with a database of 136 photographs of waste and defects in the boxes that will be taken by the HQ Raspberry Camera; then programmed into the Raspberry the process of activating the engine so that the box is moved to...

This work proposes an electronic equipment which identifies forest seeds for academic and research purposes. Existing integral solutions are prohibitively costly for silviculture laboratories used in forestry teaching. Thus, they must identify the seed by visual inspection, causing visual fatigue and results with low reliability. The state of the art proposes solutions using support vector machines, achieving a 98.82% accuracy for sunflower seeds. Other solutions extract morphological attributes of mussel seeds to identify up to 5 species with an accuracy of 95%. Most solutions only identify a single seed type with similar sizes. In this context, an electronic equipment is developed. It consists of an image acquisition enclosure, an electromechanical device to move a camera so different sizes of seeds can be imaged at different distances, and a single-board computer to control the image ...

Nutritional deficiencies in coffee plants affect production and therefore it is important its early identification. The current research is focused on the automatic identification of nutritional deficiencies of Boron (B), Calcium (Ca), Iron (Fe) and Potassium (K), by using shape and texture descriptors in images of coffee tree leaves. After the acquisition of images containing coffee tree leaves, they are subjected to a segmentation process using Otsu’s method. Afterwards, for the resulting images they are applied the descriptors Blurred Shape Model (BSM) and Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) for extracting characteristics of shape and texture. Finally, the obtained image representation is used for training KNN, Naïve Bayes and Neural Network classifiers by using the extracted features, in order to infer the type of deficiency presented in each analyzed image. The experimental re...

Pneumonia is one of the major causes of child mortality, yet with a timely diagnosis, it is usually curable with antibiotic therapy. In many developing regions, diagnosing pneumonia remains a challenge, due to shortages of medical resources. Lung ultrasound has proved to be a useful tool to detect lung consolidation as evidence of pneumonia. However, diagnosis of pneumonia by ultrasound has limitations: it is operator-dependent, and it needs to be carried out and interpreted by trained personnel. Pattern recognition and image analysis is a potential tool to enable automatic diagnosis of pneumonia consolidation without requiring an expert analyst. This paper presents a method for automatic classification of pneumonia using ultrasound imaging of the lungs and pattern recognition.

Pneumonia is one of the major causes of child mortality, but it is curable if one can achieves early diagnostics. Unfortunately, in developing countries there is a lack of infrastructure and medical experts in rural areas to provide the required diagnostics opportunely. Lung ultrasound echography has proved to be an important tool to detect lung consolidates as evidence of pneumonia. The use of ultrasound to detect pneumonia is limited by the image analysis for interpretation, which is carried by human experts. Pattern recognition and image analysis is a potential tool to facilitate recognition of pneumonia consolidates in absence of medical experts for automatic diagnostics. To perform an automatic analysis of lung ultrasound images for pneumonia detection, the noise introduced by the image portion of the skin, notably complicates the processing and interpretation. This paper presents a...

The correct identification of timber species is a complicated task for the wood industry and government institutions regulating the different laws that ensure legal and transparent commerce. Currently, experts perform this process using the organoleptic characteristics of the wood. However, the methodology used is time-consuming and limited to environmental conditions. Moreover, it has a scalability issue since acquiring this specific knowledge and experience has a slow learning curve. On the other hand, deep learning models have evolved as possible solutions for process automation. Therefore, this paper explores convolutional neural network models suited to run on edge devices. The present study created a database with 25k images of 25 timber species from the Peruvian Amazon. We trained-validated multiple lightweight models (less than 5M). The experiments were made using a repeated stra...
