Technological advances have allowed to collect and store large volumes of data over the years. Besides, it is significant that today's applications have high performance and can analyze these large datasets effectively. Today, it remains a challenge for data mining to make its algorithms and applications equally efficient in the need of increasing data size and dimensionality [1]. To achieve this goal, many applications rely on parallelism, because it is an area that allows the reduction of cost depending on the execution time of the algorithms because it takes advantage of the characteristics of current computer architectures to run several processes concurrently [2]. This paper proposes a parallel version of the FuzzyPred algorithm based on the amount of data that can be processed within each of the processing threads, synchronously and independently.

Disruptive technologies and their impact on journalism and communication force us to assume challenges in learning new techniques for data and information processing. Interdisciplinary knowledge is evident in the teaching of new professional profiles. Data journalism is an example of this, so the immersion into a data culture must be preceded by awareness in the learning of news applications, algorithms or the treatment of Big Data, elements that configure new paradigms among journalists of the media on the Internet. With the revision of texts, direct observation of selected applications and case study, some conclusions are established that contain a growing demand in the knowledge of new techniques. The results show the use of technological resources and the proposal of changes in the curricula of the communication faculties.

The Demographic and Family Health Survey (ENDES, in Spanish) is a national population-based survey with representation at the departmental level and area of residence, constituting a source of information on the health status of the Peruvian population. In order to standardize its processing and subsequent reuse by the academic community and other stakeholders, we documented the code for the manipulation, analysis, and visualization of data from the ENDES 2017 health questionnaire, through an example on the prevalence of hypertension and obesity, using the R statistical programming environment and language. The R code is presented and detailed sequentially, as well as the theoretical support of the survey structure for the manipulation of databases, considering that the complex structure of the ENDES could be a potential barrier faced by researchers. Finally, this example can serve as a ...

Electoral processes are one of the most important pillars of democracy. Transparent, fair and representative elections are the basis of the Western democracies. However, holding electoral processes does not necessarily guarantee the establishment and exercise of the democracy. Elections based on intimidation, threats, insecurity, fear, violence, harassment, fraud, vote buying, abuse, manipulation and exploitation of vulnerable conditions are threats to democracy and an expression of the exercise of corruption. Latin America in recent years has been characterized by adopting democratic governments. In recent decades, almost all countries in the region have managed to overthrow authoritarian, military and dictatorial governments. However, the democratic exercise of citizens in local, regional and national elections is often questioned due to the lack of integrity and transparency of the pr...

Nowadays spectrometers are useful in many applications such as bio-medical technology among other industrial fields. State of the art low-cost spectrometers are usually equipped with linear photoelectric array detectors (line detectors). This thesis covers part of the software development for a low-cost multichannel spectrometer using a matrix detector instead of a linear array detector. The image acquisition including an automatic integration time optimizer was implemented. Furthermore, algorithms for data extraction and calibration were developed. Finally, the multi-channel-system with the new software was compared with a high-resolution spectrometer and the results were discussed.

Understanding why users continue or discontinue using specific technology is vital for its providers. Existing literature has explored the reasons for continuance and discontinuance by taking into account both rational and emotional factors. However, one question remains unanswered: Why do some users depend more on rational factors for decision-making, while others rely more on emotional factors? This study addresses this question by integrating cognitive decision-making styles and the fear of making incorrect decisions into traditional continued usage models. Data were gathered from 285 TV users and analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results demonstrate that the introduced constructs moderated the direct effects of rational and emotional factors. The contribution of the study lies in incorporating the underlying cognitive processes of decision-making. It presents two actio...

A dissatisfied customer with a product and/or service is motivated to express a complaint. Classifying complaints manually is a process that represents high costs in human and material resources. Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows the use of various algorithms to perform tasks that can simulate human intelligence, a branch of this is Natural Language Processing (NLP), its objective is that machines have the capacity to understand human language, allowing, for example, to classify and categorize data automatically. This article provides a systematic review of the literature addressing challenges in the classification of complaint texts, such as the lack of class balance, the presence of unlabeled data, and the interpretation of model results. Preprocessing techniques are explored, such as tokenization, stopword removal, and lemmatization, which influence model performance. Additionally, ...

Precision agriculture brought with it the implementation of new digital technologies, mainly autonomous vehicles, satellite images, IoT and artificial intelligence, to provide economic, productive, and environmental benefits in the agricultural field. However, the main applications are focused on data management and monitoring of crop fields, so agricultural processes such as planting and harvesting are not yet fully automated. A clear example of this occurs in the cultivation of rice, which despite being one of the most important agricultural products in the world, the manual production method continues to predominate in developing countries. This work presents a design of an autonomous terrestrial vehicle capable of carrying out the rice transplantation process, having as its main characteristics its ability to move in the field of cultivation at a speed of 0.75m/s, transport a payload...

This project focuses on developing an NLP-based text analysis tool to evaluate Android app user feedback, specifically collected from F-Droid. The lack of an automated solution to analyze and understand these opinions, classifying them into specific topics, motivates research. The goal is to provide developers, users, and data analysts with a detailed view of user preferences and perceptions. Using data sets in English between 2014 and 2017, the proposal is implemented in Python with the Pandas library. The BERT model is used for classification, with a specific focus on the comparison of different models. The graphical interface is built in Visual Studio, allowing users to enter comments and obtain topic rankings, along with word cloud visualizations.
