The task of the university professor is a mission and not simply a profession and that is why higher education should be impregnated with values. Nowadays education is articulated into three areas: the State, the Market and the Volunteering, but no one of these three sectors by themselves has covered the needs of all the citizens, there have always been losers, therefore the conjunction of the three sectors became necessary. Communitarianism promotes an ethical-social pact that favors the progress of society without nullifying the individual dimension. It believes that the university is the space where a communitarian consciousness should be promoted to generate a social capital by means of education and it is a privilege place to substantiate the moral identity of the person beginning with the commitment of the professor with the university student.

The present article cover the latent preoccupation in the last years about the ethical formation of the teacher in relation to the “crisis of values” in which we live in. The topic will be approached giving a general view of what is and what isn’t the ethical formation of the university professor. In this sense, it tries to analyze in which ways the concepts of ethics and citizenship are installed in the professor’s speech, but do not manage to manifest themselves effectively in the schools. We will analyze the concept of ethical formation as a process of collective construction, which demands the preparation and exercise of critical reflection, just like the taking of decisions about moral situations that regulate the coexistence between the actors in the educational process (students, professors, administrative personnel, etc.) We will reflect on the role of the profess...

We present an artistic research developed with university students. Under the theme of memories and the idea “Machines have memory, people have memories”, an exhibition was presented at the Computer Museum with the title “The design of memories”, with 22 artistic installations made by students, establishing a dialogue with the museum’ collection. The research seeks pedagogical alternatives from art education, incorporating approaches that investigate social, political and cultural aspects, such as museums, as well as collective creation formats. It is presented as a case study, incorporating teaching narratives, questionnaires, and Arts-Based Research. The positive evaluation of the exhibition leads us to consider this activity as an enriching model in artistic and heritage education, promoting creativity and collaborative work.

This study examined the professoriate view of spirituality at a private university in Lima, Peru. A two-phase, sequential mixed method was used. Two hundred forty professors completed Paloutzian and Ellison’s (1982) Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) for the quantitative phase. Five research questions exploring the professors’ gender, general area of teaching (humanities vs. sciences), highest university degree earned, age, and total years of university teaching experience were analyzed to determine if any significant differences existed within those variables. Two non-parametric tests were used: the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis Test. It was discovered only gender showed a significant difference. Five surveyed professors participated in the focus group phase exploring significant gender difference on the spiritual well-being scores. Five questions explored this ...

Nowdays, academic instruction in any Dental school presents important challenges for both the university and professors. Due to the constant changes that the world faces; now more than ever the three pillars of university education: teaching, research and extension, must be fulfilled. The mere transmission of knowledge by the professor is no longer enough, equal importance has the student's exposure to social reality through extension, even more in scientific careers such as Dentistry. With that purpose, professors have the obligation to train the student as a researcher so that they are able to generate knowledge and provide answers to social problems. Hence, the professor must have certain features and develop a profile that allows him to transmit research skills. It is essential that the professor should be an example of intellectual production, as well as being up to date with the ma...

Universities are education centers that promote scientific training. Several studies have questioned the presence of magical thinking in students attending undergraduate programs in science such as psychology students. Using a strategy different from the quantitative approach in university students of the psychology undergraduate program, this research aimed to contribute to this line of work. Psychology professors’ representations of magical thinking in psychology training and career were analyzed using a qualitative approach. Semi-structured interviews were performed, and the collected information was organized in topics, categories and subcategories. The discussion addresses the agreements and disagreements found on professors’ understanding of science, psychology, their scope and limits.
