Universities are education centers that promote scientific training. Several studies have questioned the presence of magical thinking in students attending undergraduate programs in science such as psychology students. Using a strategy different from the quantitative approach in university students of the psychology undergraduate program, this research aimed to contribute to this line of work. Psychology professors’ representations of magical thinking in psychology training and career were analyzed using a qualitative approach. Semi-structured interviews were performed, and the collected information was organized in topics, categories and subcategories. The discussion addresses the agreements and disagreements found on professors’ understanding of science, psychology, their scope and limits.

Conspiratorial thinking is the tendency to attribute the causes of significant problems to secret plots schemed by people seeking to harm society. Although this trend has important consequences, there are no validated instruments that allow it to be measured in Spanish. The present study seeks to close this gap by translating and adapting the General Conspiracist Beliefs Scale (GCBS) into Spanish and analyzing its validity and reliability. For this, 316 participants were recruited from social networks to analyze the psychometric adequacy of the test. The validity evidence for the factorial structure of the test was confirmed with a structure of three factors: political, scientific, and alien conspiracies. Evidence of validity from the content of the test was adequate according to Aiken’s V coefficient. People with higher levels of conspiratorial thinking also had consistent responses o...

The objective of this research was to design and validate a pseudoscientific thinking scale. The study is of an instrumental type, whose sample consisted of 686 Peruvian adult participants (42% women). Regarding construct validity, an exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analysis were performed; and for reliability evidence, McDonald’s omega coefficient was used. The results of the EFA showed a unidimensional model of 8 items. The CFA presented an adequate fit, c2(20) = 35.5, CFI = .995, RMSEA = .047, SRMR = .026, TLI = .994 thus confirming the one-dimensional structure with factor loadings between the values of l = .68 and l = .86 (w = .92). Finally, the academic and social implications of this new psychometric instrument are discussed.
