This paper discusses the grounding of the possibility of a critique of general linguistics or linguistic theory based on an interpretation of a passage of Heidegger’s Letter on Humanism. According to my interpretation, the metaphysical conception of language generates an obliteration that does not allow to understand the phenomenon of language or languages. However, I claim that such a conception and, therefore, the obliteration itself are part of the phenomenon of language and not something external that can be avoided. Therefore, I raise the question if linguistics supports such a conception and defend that the obliteration diagnosed by Heidegger requires a discrimination of the fundamental concepts of linguistics and its presuppositions. I suggest as a work hypothesis in the context of critical practice that it is not linguistics itself that supports this conception –such as ...

Linguistic discrimination generates inequality, and this is manifested in the lack of responses to meet the legal demands of a sector of the population. The legal case on forced sterilizations during the government of Alberto Fujimori is analyzed in this paper, with emphasis on the suspension of a hearing due to the lack of interpreters of Quechua, the language spoken by several of those affected. The main objective of the work is to analyze expressions related to linguistic discrimination in access to the justice service in Peru. The methodology consists of collecting data from social networks and news portals of Peruvian newspapers about the aforementioned case. Subsequently, the data obtained is analyzed by a theoretical framework where the pertinent concepts regarding linguistic discrimination, linguistic law, migratory linguistics and discourse analysis are exposed. Finally, the con...

This article deals with the linguistic rights of indigenous peoples in access to the administration of justice. Using indigenous languages individually and collectively is a right that the State has the obligation to recognize, respect, protect and promote. The original languages must be guaranteed, promoted and strengthened, however, in Peru the western culture still subordinates the indigenous peoples. This practice of domination is perceived as a “normal” fact that has been internalized in the indigenous population, generating a problem of self[1]esteem. It is necessary to build a new model of the State with multicultural and multilingual institutions and justice.

This article proposes elements for the development of a sociology of minority languages. It raises the need for a dialogue between the social sciences and linguistics for the characterization and the situation of linguistic dominance. For this, he proposes the complementarity between the perspectives of ideologies and linguistic violence. In methodological terms, the article systematizes the literature on linguistic ideologies developed by Krotskity and Silverstein and the works of Pierre Bourdieu on violence and linguistic habitus. Both conceptualizations are reviewed in the light of primary and secondary evidence on the situation of the Mapuche language, Mapudungun, in Chile. The article concludes with a discussion on the sociological possibilities of a linguistic liberation of the indigenous and Mapuche peoples.

The present article aims to formulate the fundamentals of a new linguistics that is focused on the daily experience of speech and denies the existence of codes as an explaining devise of language understanding and gives them only a symbolic value. Instead the new linguistics develops an interactive hermeneutic to understand the mechanisms of speech, the acquisition of language and its practical logic that constitutes the universe of meaning, because we speak as we learned to do it. The new linguistics is focused in the interests of the speaker who wants to own his own way of speaking and define the meanings in concrete situations, in contrast with a linguistics that defends the collective national interests symbolized in the shared codes.

In the historic center and other spaces in the city of Mérida, there are signs written in Spanish, English and Yucatec Maya, whose information is an attraction for visitors, the people of foreign origin, and English speakers who live in the city. From the point of view of sociolinguistics, this study aims to analyze the linguistic attitudes towards the Mayan language in relation to the linguistic landscape by some English-speaking foreigners in the Yucatecan capital, since there are no studies about this population sector. From a semi-directed interview, the testimonies of speakers who have English as their first language were analyzed. Among the most outstanding attitudes are the critical stance that analyzes the absence of Mayan readers towards their own language, since this landscape is directed towards tourists and not towards Mayan speakers, according to the Anglo-American informan...

The identity of a territory is built day by day and is reflected through its history via the expression of culture and language. Therefore, linguistic-cultural preservation represents a pillar of the nation's own identity. However, facts coexist contrary to good cultural policies that protect the native and national identity: the invasion and dissemination of globalized foreign cultures and a polluting lexicon for Spanish. Other ―ungrammatical― linguistic phenomena are added, supported by a certain “fashionable stereotyped language”. Unfortunately, great responsibility for this falls on the mass media, where professionals who use this type of language that permeates and echoes in social work; it is observed, even, in the scientific, and academic language used by teachers. This can be confirmed orally and in documents written by professors from the Villa Clara University of Medica...

The present study offers us the possibility of identifying the factors that condition the linguistic attitudes of two Peruvian Amazonian indigenous populations in order to understand, with greater objectivity, the value predisposition of indigenous users towards their own language and towards Spanish; their identification with their group and with the national society as a whole. It also allows us, in the first place, to evidence sociolinguistic and cultural elements conducive to outline a configuration of the scenario in which they develop their activities; secondly, to highlight the types of relationships they establish with indigenous members within their communities and with those who are not indigenous, both within and outside their communities.

The objective of this article is to explain the relationship between academic writing and linguistic awareness that must be present during the process of preparing, reviewing and controlling research reports. The academic writing uses a formal writing, respectful of the science of language, both in its descriptive aspects and in its prescriptive or normative aspects. Linguistic awareness depends on knowledge of what language is and how it works from the simplest structures of sounds to the complex forms of words, phrases, sentences and paragraphs. Linguistics is the science of language. Its own and distinctive fields are phonetics, semantics and grammar. Let's briefly review each of them.

When analyzing any language, there are certain categories and ways of conceiving that can occur at various levels with great frequency. Many times, these categories are so universal and self-evident that they show up not only linguistically but have cultural correspondences as well. Such recursive and inclusive themes are called 'linguistic postulates' (Hardman, 1978). While I was carrying out an investigation of the Quichua dialects spoken in Ecuador, I noticed that certain postulates were evident in all the dialect areas that I studied.
