As in other Latin American economies, in recent years, Peru has been experiencing a strong influx of foreign capital which, on the one hand has speeded up economic growth but, on the other, necessitated cautious monetary and exchange policy to prevent economic instability in this context, it has been difficult to keep the real exchange rate high and exporters and certain branches of Peruvian industry have been hurt by its fall.  The question the article tries to answer is whether the exchange rate really is lopsided or whether exchange rate shifts occur in response to long-term factors, be they internal or external, that have suppressed the rate to lower levels than those of the 1980s. To do this the author used the methodology of Johansen and Juselius to calculate a co-integration vector, which revealed a lack of parity between the quoted value and that of a balanced rate. The author...

The underrepresentation of women in IT related majors such as computer science, computer engineering, and information systems (IS) has been evident all over the world. As a result, many private and public institutions have created programs aimed to increase enrollment, recruitment, and placement of women in the field and reduce the gender gap in the field. Several journal publications about this kind of research can be found in the scientific literature about studies mostly conducted in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia, but very few publications about this kind of research in Latin American countries is available in the literature despite the fact that in the last ten years, countries in Latin America also developed a variety of programs with the same goal with the support of international organizations like the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizatio...

The coronavirus crisis we are suffering globally should soon be over. As of this writing (4/17/2020), there have been 150,000 deaths accounted for due to this cause and almost one million confirmed cases worldwide. Due to the lack of diagnostic testing and health politics to carry out analysis, mainly to those who are admitted to hospitals with symptoms, we still do not know the actual number of affected individuals, but it must be much higher than reported cases. The authors themselves have affected family members, even in Intensive Care Units (ICU). The healthcare and political authorities continue to say that the worst is yet to come. And certainly, very important, that we all stay at home. Once the national state of emergency is declared by governments, physical distancing compliance should be taken as an obligation for all.

Digital media allows the emergence of different activities that provide new ways to participate in social and political life. The Internet allows reaching groups that are normally inactive or less active in conventional or offline forms of political participation. We sought to explore the influence that frequency of Internet connection, Internet social participation and political discussion (talk about politics) have on political participation on the Internet in three different generations (n = 502, age: 18-67). The youngest participants presented a higher frequency of connection and activities on the Internet, while the older generational group exhibited a greater frequency of political discussion. In general , the three variables are relevant to explain political activity on the Internet; however, the weight of each variable is different depending on the generation considered.

This study aims to identify gender gaps in Peru’s STEM careers (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) to promote equal opportunities in society. It presents statistics comparing the presence of women and men, considering their educational levels, age groups, and years of entry into these careers. This data serves as a basis for developing strategies to close these gaps. The research involved a descriptive analysis of data from the National Council for Science, Technology, and Technological Innovation (CONCYTEC) to understand the situation of professionals in the National Registry of Scientific, Technological, and Innovation Personnel (RENACYT) in Peru. Despite significant progress in recent decades, many obstacles still hinder the full integration of women into these fields. Measuring these gender gaps in science, technology, and innovation poses a challenge due to the lim...

The purpose of this research is to get to know the people’s satisfaction regarding the quality of the public cleaning service provided by the Provincial Municipality of Callao, for the year 2021. The methodology used was the data collection technique through surveys. The results showed that the surveyed population considers that they have a predominantly "fair" and "poor" quality level of the cleaning, sweeping and collection service. Regarding the level of cleanliness, respondents consider that parks and markets have an acceptable level. Meanwhile, neighbors rated the separated collection service as "very bad." In addition, more than 50% of surveyed people do not comply with their obligation to pay municipal taxes and this action affects tax collection in the Municipality of Callao, because it does not allow to cover all the expenses of providing public cleaning services. The study of patenting activity may help to understand the existing gender differences in the field of science and technology. This research analyzes how organizational issues have  an  effect  on  female  presence  in  Mexico  patenting  activity  for  the  period  1976-2017.  To  that  end,  this  investigation  studies  patents  granted  to  Mexico  by  the  United  States Patent Office (USPTO).

This article describes the symbolic, physical and demographic changes experienced by the Peruvian capital over the past fifty years. In this period, Lima came to its current image of a historical, hybrid, multicultural and post-modern city. A city that confines, within its boundaries, all the nuances of Peruanity that remain determined by a constant tension between its visible and invisible face, of being a city split between being simultaneously legal and illegal. Invoking a historical, urban and sociocultural approach of some of its representational luminaries (Valdelomar, Salazar Bondy, Matos Mar, De Soto), the article describes the current risks and possibilities that the project of hyper-modernization and consumption has come to mean for a jumbled and historical city, whose heterotypical undulations are faced with unilateral risks of a logic m...

The present work sends a critical analysis to the Cuban educational social policy, in the treatment of school violence, with a view to its improvement and to make visible this problem. The proposed research takes triangulation as a methodological strategy and assumes the basic secondary education of the Santiago de Cuba municipality as empirical references for its development. From the analysis of the results it is highlighted that, although the country is on a clear path towards the visibility of this scourge, the nullity of the term in the ministerial decrees and resolutions of the educational policy favors its ignorance. In it, the tangential approaches to the subject are limited to students' antisocial behaviors and their contexts of vulnerability; leaving out the rest of the actors involved in its construction. Likewise, in the development of strategies for their attention, the alie...
