The study of patenting activity may help to understand the existing gender differences in the field of science and technology. This research analyzes how organizational issues have  an  effect  on  female  presence  in  Mexico  patenting  activity  for  the  period  1976-2017.  To  that  end,  this  investigation  studies  patents  granted  to  Mexico  by  the  United  States Patent Office (USPTO). The results show that teamwork and the way in which the patenting  process  is  organized  are  important  to  explain  female  presence  in  patenting  activities, and that organizations such as universities and laboratories are also linked to a greater probability of female presence in patenting.

El estudio de la actividad innovadora por género a través de las patentes permite entender las diferencias existentes al respecto en el ámbito de la ciencia y la tecnología. Este sector no escapa de la presencia de una brecha de género a favor de los hombres. La presente investigación analiza los factores organizacionales asociados a la presencia femenina en la actividad patentadora en México para el periodo 1976-2017. Para ello, se analizan las patentes registradas por titulares de este país en la Oficina de Patentes de los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica (USPTO). Los resultados muestran que el trabajo en equipo y la forma como se organiza el proceso patentador son importantes para explicar la presencia femenina en la actividad innovadora, y que las universidades y laboratorios también se asocian a una mayor probabilidad de presencia femenina en dicha actividad.
