This article is about the archaeological discovery of a door found during the 2003 excavations in the mound complex 19 Potosi, this mound is part of the Maranga, under the Rimac valley. Consider important to the discovery of this element, as there are very few specimens (an example is the door of Pachacamac), and can give us important data to explain the use of the doors in the complex Maranga. The door was associated with a adobitos passageway that led to a quadrangular enclosure painted ocher-yellow, apparently, the door is part of a rite of sealing, with burning and burial of structure. In the present article provides the results of the analysis we perform, as well as a possible interpretation of architectural and social function of the doors during the final stages of the Lima culture (Maranga).

In 2003 conducted excavations in the mounds 18 and 19 complex Maranga, Rimac Valley, by archaeologist Carmen Gabe. During this excavation was found in the two northern platform mound 19 a funeral context 5 burials. Subsequently, desenfardo one of these burials, which corresponded to a weaver was performed, however, due to the features, both physical (pathological features) and its grave goods, It is likely being treated for an individual who enjoyed a high social status within their society. This article is the result of a bioarchaeological analysis of this case and that led to a severe injury pathological outcome of metastatic cancer, which would correspond to one of the few found in the Lima area during the Late Horizon period.

In May 2005 and April 2006, in the region of Khastor, Potosi, Bolivia, a female pampas cat (Leopardus colocolo) was captured. The efficacy of a protocol for chemical immobilization for animal handling, clinical evaluation and collection of biological samples was evaluated. It was used ketamine hydrochloride (KH) + medetomidine hydrochloride (MH), and antagonized the latter with atipamezole (AH). In 2005 were administered 4.38 mg/kg of KH + 0.04 mg/kg of MH, requiring 2 successive doses of 1.76 mg/kg of KH. In 2006 were administered 5.0 mg/kg of KH + 0.05 mg/kg of MH. MH was antagonized with 0.22 and 0.25 mg/kg of AH in 2005 and 2006 respectively. The induction time and chemical immobilization in both campaigns were very similar but the recovery time from anesthesia in 2006 was shorter than in 2005. The clinical evaluation indicated adequate health and physical status. The hemograms showe...

Through extensive ethnographic work, Stobart reviews the links between food production and material and intangible culture production. This article is a good example of the theoretical and empirical strength on which his work is based. In it, very suggestively, Stobart examines the multisensory implications of musical reception in the Macha region, north of Potosí, during the holiday periods. With pleasant and acute prose, Stobart reviews the cultural links between music, sexuality and food, as well as between visual and auditory perceptions to finally focus on the relationships between musical practices, religious offerings and the climate of the Potosian region. Taking the notion of synesthesia in anthropology, Stobart analyzes a rich ethnographic material and brings us closer to indigenous conceptions of the Andes hitherto unheard of for us. A text that, without a doubt, will promote...

The Huari Huari deposit, Potosí Department in SW Bolivia, hosts polymetallic stratiform and vein mineralization of Miocene age with significant concentrations of the critical metal indium (In). Vein mineralization records document early crystallization of quartz and cassiterite followed by prominent associations of sulfides and sulfosalts. The earliest sulfide was arsenopyrite, followed by pyrrhotite, and progressively giving way to pyrite as the main iron sulfide, whereas C-u-Ag-Pb sulfosalts constitute late hypogene associations. Sphalerite is the chief ore mineral, and its crystallization is extended during most of the mineralization lifespan as evidenced by its initial cocrystallization with pyrrhotine, then with pyrite, and finally with Ag-Pb sulfosalts. The composition of sphalerite varies from early to late generations with a continuous decrease in FeS that attests to a decrease ...

A volcanic dome complex of Miocene age hosts the In-bearing animas-Chocaya-Siete Suyos district in SW Bolivia. Ore mineralization occurs as banded and massive infillings in sub-vertical, NE-SW striking veins. In this article, a detailed petrographic study is combined with in situ mineral geochemistry determinations in ore from the Arturo, Chorro and Diez veins in the Siete Suyos mine, the animas, Burton, Colorada, and Rosario veins in the animas mine and the Nueva vein in the Chocaya mine. A three-stage paragenetic sequence is roughly determined for all of them, and includes (1) an early low-sulfidation stage that is dominated by cassiterite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, and high-Fe sphalerite (FeS > 21 mol. %); (2) a second intermediate-sulfidation stage dominated by pyrite + marcasite +/- intermediate product, sphalerite (FeS < 21 mol. %), stannite, and local famatinite; and, (3) a late i...
