This article presents preliminary data of the research project on the Stress Patterns found in Chachapoyas Quechua and its Implications for the Reconstruction of Protoquechua. This is the thesis project for a PhD degree in Linguistics at the National University of San Marcos. The state of the art around the accent in protoquechua has not offered so far a proposal on how their accent patterns would have been like (Cf. Torero, 1964, Parker, 2013, Cerrón-Palomino, 2003). The hy- pothesis of our project is that the accentual patterns of Chachapoyas Quechua maintains its prosodic aspect from the protoquechua and not from the Chacha language studied by Taylor (2000) and Valqui & Zie-mendorff (2016). In this article, unpublished data of acoustic charac- teristics of this variety that were collected in towns of the provinces of Chachapoyas and Luya in the department of Amazonas are presente...

This paper discusses on the emergence of long and short monophthongized vowels in a number of suffixes of the Quechua variety spoken in Chachapoyas. In particular, vowel monophthongization occurs within the possessive suffixes that mark first and second person in this Quechua variety. Previous studies have explained that alternations between [i]/[i:] and [e]/[e:] are the result of variations in the quality of the initial segment /-y/ that appears in both first and second person possessive suffixes. Similarly, previous research has described the alternation between short and long vowel segments (i.e. [i]/[i:] and [e]/[e:]) as the outcome of stress variation. However, recent acoustic evidence suggests that the initial segment of both possessive suffixes is not /-y/ but a subespecified coronal segment. Moreover, this evidence allows to explain the alternation between short and long vowels a...

This paper investigates the inclusion of the intercultural education in the urban school. To achieve this goal, we analyze the school’s official documents, the conception about interculturality from the teachers and parents, and the school practice. The observation reports that intercultural education has not been included into the urban school, because there is not any consistent relationship among the elements of this educational proposal.

This paper uses three different approaches (Generative phonology, Nonlinear phonology and Optimality Theory) in order to describe and explain a phonological process of assimilation called labialization in Nomatsiguenga, that only happens when a labial consonant appears before the central vowel [i]. Standard generative phonology characterized assimilation in terms of features copying. In Nonlinear approach, in contrast, assimilation is characterized as the association of features of segment A to a neighboring segment B. Finally, in Optimality Theory, assimilation is characterized as Markedness constraint called AGREE(x).
