Yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is part of our food and medicinal biodiversity and both roots and leaves are used due to their antioxidant, hypoglycemic and antibacterial properties. Consequently its use as functional food and/or nutraceutical is promising. Objectives: To determine the antioxidant capacity of 10 yacon accessions native from Cajamarca. Design: Descriptive, cross sectional and prospective study. Setting: Biochemistry and Nutrition Research Center, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM), and Universidad Nacional de Cajamarca (UNC), Peru. Biological material: Yacon leaves and roots. Interventions: Yacon leaves and roots of plants cultivated in the Experimental Field of the Roots and Andean Tubers Program, Cajamarca's city (2 536 meters above sea level), were used, from the collection that supports the UNC Faculty of Agrarian Sciences. Origin o...

The study was conducted on five samples of native potatoes from the province of Andahuaylas, department of Apurimac, for the 2012 crop. It was measured the antioxidant capacity, the content of polyphenols and mineral micronutrients Cu, Fe, Zn, Se and Mn. The .+ antioxidant capacity was determined by the uptake of DPPH and ABTS radicals. Minerals were determined by atomic absorption. The antioxidant capacity expressed as TEAC-ABTS ranged from 18.5 to 35.6 mmol/100 g of soluble solids , and the range of TEAC-DPPH was from 1.28 to 2.34 mmol/100 g soluble solids, both showed a positive correlation ( r = 0.91) . Polyphenol content ranged from 23.99 to 49.52 mg EAG/g ss , likewise showed positive correlation with TEAC-ABTS (r = 0.971). In all these essays, the sample 13 SJ -JPwas the one that showed the best results. The iron and copper content was higher in the sample 28 SJ-JP, the sample 13 ...

Introduction: Lepidium meyenii Walp (maca) is a Peruvian Andean root used as food due to its nutritional value and ethnomedical properties, being part of traditional medicine. Objectives: To determine yellow maca aqueous extract adaptogen role on muscle tissue enzymes in an endurance and oxidative stress animal model. Design: Experimental. Setting: Biochemistry and Nutrition Research Center, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Peru. Biological material: Yellow maca aqueous extract and newly weaned male rats. Interventions: Administration of yellow maca aqueous extract in newly weaned male rats divided into four groups: (I) control, (II) 0,4 mg maca/g weight, (III) 0,8 mg maca/g, and (IV) 1,2 mg maca/g. The aqueous extract was administered by orogastric cannula. Weights were controlled. Swimming test was applied after 30 days of treatment. The animals were...

The factorial structure, the psychometric properties and the norms of interpretation and correction of the profile, and the typology of the adaptation to Spanish of the Collective Efficacy Questionnaire for Sport (CEQS) by Martínez, Guillén & Feltz (2011) are examined, in a sample of Colombian athletes, because in their previous validations no strategies were applied to minimize the bias from factorial indeterminacy, confirmatory and by capitalization on the chance. Contrary to the CEQS five-factors structure originally postulated by Martínez et al. (2011), findings in this study show a two-factor structure. Convergent validity shows that the two factors predict the quality of the players' relationship. Finally, no differences were found in the scores of the two CEQS factors associated with sociodemographic or socio-sports variables. Recommendations are presented on the use and in...

Peru is the main supplier of "tara ", because our country has a variety of climates and soil types, by allowing the crop during most of the year. Junín department has natural populations of "tara" who have not yet been characterized biochemical or genetically, which could be harnessed for the benefit of local communities. In this work we report the antioxidant capacity of "tara" from the localities of Picoy and Santa Fe, both located in Tarma, Junin. We used the technique of DPPH and ABTS to evaluate the antioxidant capacity for the determination of phenols and flavonoids were used Folin-Ciocalteau reagent according to the technique of Singleton. Picoy sample reported a higher amount of phenols being of 563.70 mg/g dry extract, while the amount of flavonoids was 0.664 mg/g. The antioxidant capacity showed a better response in the sample of Picoy, reporting through a DPPH IC50 1.244 mg/m...
