The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of gastrointestinal nematodes in Huacaya alpacas and Corriedale sheep. Between February 2014 and April 2016, 238 faecal samples of alpacas and 319 of sheep were collected in San Pedro de Racco and 215 fecal samples of sheep and 178 samples of alpacas in Yurajhuanca. The faecal count of nematode eggs was determined by the modified McMaster technique and the identification of the parasitic genera through the morphometric identification of infective larvae (L3). The general prevalence was 65.2% (208/319) and 21.4% (51/238) for nematodes in sheep and alpacas of the San Pedro de Racco cooperative, and of 35.4% (76/215) and 3.9% (7/178) for nematodes in sheep and alpacas of the Yurajhuanca cooperative, respectively. The species found in sheep and alpacas from both cooperatives were Oesophagostomum columbianum, Trichostrongylus columbiformis...

The aim of the present study was to determine the frequency of skin neoplasms in dogs in the Lima Metropolitan area, based on a retrospective analysis of the diagnostic work carried out in the Laboratory of Veterinary Pathology of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Peru. Histopathological reports of canine neoplasms from January 2, 1999 until December 21, 2012 were reviewed (n=789). Malignant neoplasms represented 62.5% of the total skin neoplasms. Among the malign and benign epithelial neoplasms, the squamous cell carcinoma (50.0%, 72/147) and papilloma (26.8%, 33/123) were the most frequent respectively. In the case of malignant and benign mesenchymal neoplasms, mastocytoma (23.7%, 70/295) and cutaneous extramedullary plasmacytoma (39.5%, 68/172) were the most prevalent, respectively.

The aim of this study was to study the relationship between gastrointestinal parasites with body weight and body condition in alpacas grazing in the Andean region of Pasco, Peru. Faecal samples from 160 alpacas in two communal farms were collected and analysed by the McMaster technique and faecal culture to determine the parasite load and parasite species. Due to the low prevalence of nematodes was decided to evaluate the relationship between Eimeria macusaniensis burden with the two productive parameters. The results showed a negative and significant correlation between parasite load and body weight (r2=0.8938) and non-significant correlation between parasite load and body condition (r2= 0.5747).

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Fasciola hepatica and gastrointestinal parasites in bovines from five districts of the Amazon Region, Peru. A total of 803 bovine faecal samples were collected between October and December 2015 and were analyzed by the coprological spontaneous sedimentation technique. The results indicated a global prevalence of F. hepatica of 59.5%, with a higher prevalence in the districts of Yambrasbamba and Florida, while the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites was 29.1%, predominating in the districts of Molinopampa and Huambo. The variables origin, category and breed were factors that influenced the degree of infestation by F. hepatica and gastrointestinal parasites (p<0.05), while sex was not significant.

Poecilia reticulata (Peters, 1859), popularly known as the guppy, is a small fi sh commonly confined to the shallow edges of pools and streams and also found in heavily polluted water bodies. In natural and artificial environments, this fish species can be infected by a wide range of pathogens and parasites. In the present study, we reported for the first time in the Peruvian Amazon, the infestation of metacercariae of Clinostomum marginatum (Rudolphi, 1819) in the body of specimens of P. reticulata. Between May and June 2024, fifty specimens of P. reticulata were collected from an urban stream in the city of Iquitos, Loreto, Peru. Samples were collected at the “Laboratorio de Parasitolog.a y Sanidad Acuícola” from the “Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazon.a Peruana” (IIAP) in Loreto, Peru. Metacercariae of C.marginatum were observed embedded in the muscle tissue of 100% of...

Kinosternon scorpioides (Linnaeus, 1766) popularly known in Brazil as “Jurará” is a species of chelon that serves as a food resource and source of income for some families in Northeastern Brazil. In that sense, the present study aimed to analyze the metazoan endoparasites infecting K. scorpioides from the Baixada Maranhense, Brazil. Fifteen adult specimens were captured using funnel traps in flooded fields around the Aurá River, close to the city of São Bento-Maranhão. Samples were transported to the Postgraduate Multi-User Research Laboratory- Laboratories in Postgraduate Research/Postgraduate in Animal Science located at the State University of Maranhão- UEMA for parasitological analyses. The results revealed the presence of larvae of Contracaecum sp. infecting the stomach, intestine, and liver, while Eustrongylides sp. was found encysted in the musculature, stomach, intestine...
