Congenital cytomegalovirus is a double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the Herpesviridae family that causes intrauterine infection. Infants can be either asymptomatic or symptomatic at birth. Severe outcome was defined as: neonatal death and/or severe neurodevelopmental symptoms and/or severe cognitive impairment. This study aims at showing the antimicrobial effect of the modified 3-mix paste in the treatment of acute apical periodontitis in a female child patient with congenital cytomegalovirus, in a single session. The 2-year and 3-month-old female patient has symptomatic congenital cytomegalovirus infection and ongoing long-term side effects. At the stemmatological level, the patient presented with multiple carious lesions, reversible pulpitis and acute apical periodontitis. Also, pulpectomies were performed on teeth 61, 62, 51, 52, 81, 71, 54 and 64 in a single session, under general...

Objectives: determine the total length and the largest diameter in cervical, middle and apical level of deciduous mandibular first molars using cone beam computed tomography. Materials and method: In this cross-sectional study a sample of 21 deciduous upper first molars with the length of the complete root and no fracture was analyzed. The teeth were scanned using CT Cone Beam, the diameter of the root canal was measured by taking three points of reference for these measures, cervical, middle and apical. The obtained images were examined and measured by mean a 3D processing imagery software. The measures of the ducts was made by a single observer (CCI= 0.70); nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis test to compare and find the differences were used. Results: The average length of deciduous upper first molars was 13.53 mm, 5.61 mm crown and root 7.92 mm. The average diameter of the palatal root cana...

BACKGROUND: TO EVALUATE THE PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT PREDICTION MODELS BASED ON MACHINE LEARNING TO PREDICT THE PRESENCE OF EARLY CHILDHOOD CARIES. MATERIAL AND METHODS: CROSS-SECTIONAL ANALYTICAL STUDY. THE SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC AND CLINICAL DATA USED CAME FROM A SAMPLE OF 186 CHILDREN AGED 3 TO 6 YEARS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE PARENTS OR GUARDIANS TREATED AT A HOSPITAL IN ICA, PERU. THE DATABASE WITH SIGNIFICANT VARIABLES WAS LOADED INTO THE ORANGE DATA MINING SOFTWARE TO BE PROCESSED WITH DIFFERENT PREDICTION MODELS BASED ON MACHINE LEARNING. TO EVALUATE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE PREDICTION MODELS, THE FOLLOWING INDICATORS WERE USED: PRECISION, RECALL, F1-SCORE AND ACCURACY. THE DISCRIMINATORY POWER OF THE MODEL WAS DETERMINED BY THE VALUE OF THE ROC CURVE. RESULTS: 76.88% OF THE CHILDREN EVALUATED HAD CAVITIES. THE SUPPORT VECTOR MACHINE (SVM) AND NEURAL NETWORK (NN) MODELS OBTAINED THE BEST PER...

Objectives: Estimate the root canals of primary first lower molars by means of Nano computed tomography (Nano-CT). Material and methods: The sample consisted of 10 inferior primary molar teeth. The teeth were scanned by Nano-CT and the resulting images were analyzed with the On-Demand 3D software, considering among the evaluation the anatomical characteristics of the root canals and surface area of the root canals throughout the root length. For the measurement of the larger and smaller diameter of the root canals the statistical tests were central trend measures, with a significance level of 5%.  Results: In the distal root, vestibular mesial and lingual mesial , the size of the root canal with the highest average of the cervical region (D0) was 1.30, 1.00, 1.08 mm, respectively. The diameter to the deepest length (D11) for the same canals was 0.29, 0.22, 0.18 mm. The measurement o...
