The first task of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study is to carry out an environmental diagnosis of the affected area or to be affected by a certain activity. This implies knowing the environmental components and their interactions, also characterizing the environmental situation from that area before the implementation of the project. In the present investigation of a company in the paper industry, the purpose is to determine the impact it produces on the environment, and above all to reach a mitigation plan by preparing proposals and its feasibility through cost / benefit analyzes. .

The research focuses on the environmental problems generated by informal gold mining by dredges in the Peruvian Amazon, specifically the Yaguas River Putumayo River Basin. Monitoring results effected between 09 and 15 September 1,999, show mercury in river sediments Yaguas (0.3189 and 0.3911 mg Hg / kg), which proves the technical basis for the ability of mercury deposition. The vessels (dredgers) that perform the extraction of gold does not meet the essential environmental standards set by the MEM. As urges broader assessment involving the determination of the toxicity of mercury in the ecosystem of the area through conventional water quality parameters and sediment considered in addition to, or confirming biomarkers negate the hypothesis on the introduction of mercury into the chain and its arrival at the man.

Mine equipment selection is a complex task due to numerous technical, geometrical and economical variables involved. The variety of equipment manufacturers and agents carrying different models, types and sizes make the selection procedure even more complex. The mine planner does not have a tool to correctly select the equipment or fl eet for a project. Simulation fi lls the gap and contributes to this goal. This study tries to apply deterministic and probabilistic simulation approaches in selecting mining equipment using fi eld data from two surface mine operations. The deterministic model uses a one year production plan from a quarry. The equipment fl eet is selected on the basis of minimum unit cost for both drilling and excavation-haulage equipment fl eets. For the probabilistic approach the GPSS language is applied. Programs were prepared for various combinations of loaders and haule...

This article summarizes the study carried out, the objective of which is to assess the landscape impact of the Utcubamba River Falls, which is part of the research project for the management of natural landscapes for ecotourism purposes in the middle basin of the Utcubamba River. What is remarkable about the study is that it addresses a relatively new aspect; but, very important for the use of natural resources. In the valuation of the landscape there is a clear conflict between different approaches; the method used for the valuation of the landscape units in this work is the one proposed by Ignacio Cañas Guerrero and María A. Ruiz Sánchez. This method is briefly described, and later on, the aim is to combine the different possible approaches in the valuation of the landscape, thus considering physical, artistic and psychological attributes.
