OBJETIVE: To determine normal metabolism variations following food ingestion. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 33 normal middle-aged and old adults, 16 female and 17 male, 45-70 years old (average 56,3 ± 7,32), were studied both after a 12-14 hours nocturnal fast and following ingestion of a food mixture containing 730 kcal, 55,4% fat, 37,2% carbohydrates and 7,4% protein, an almost standard breakfast. Blood samples were obtained at fasting state and during 6 hours after the ingestion of the meal described before. Glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol were measured by enzymatic methods, insuline by radioimmune assay and non–esterified fatty acids (NEFA) by the method of Duncombe. RESULTS: Blood glucose rose from 30 minutes to the 2nd hour; insulin from 30 minutes to the 4th hour, triglycerides rose from the 2nd to 4th hour and then began to decline at the 6th h...

A review of the lipidic and non-lipidic cardiovascular risk factors is done. The increase of LDL, VLDL, IDL cholesterol, non-HDL triglycerides and lipoprotein(a) as well as HDL cholesterol decrease were considered as main lipidic cardiovascular risk factors. Dyslipoproteinemias are classified as primary and secondary. Primary dyslipoproteinemias are inborn errors of lipid metabolism, familiar or non-familiar, including common hypercholesterolemia, combined familiar hyperlipidemia, familiar hypercholesterolemia, familiar hypertrigliceridemia, VLDL remanents hyperlipidemia and primary quilomicronemia. The secondary dyslipoproteinemias are produced by various diseases, including hypotiroidism, diabetes mellitus, nephrotic syndrome, chronic biliary obstruction, renal insufficiency and so on; there are some drugs that modify lipid metabolism such as alcohol, beta-blockers, diuretics, progesta...

The San Marcos was founded shortly after the beginning of the conquest of Peru, in an environment characterized by irrepressible ambition for wealth of the conquerors and of the trustees, together with exploitation, abuse and merciless death of native heirs of the Inca Empire, by his pure inhuman dye moved to a religious group to denounce these facts and raise the cultural status of Spaniards, Creoles, mestizos and Indians. The work of Bartolomé de las Casas, who, moved by a judgment of wisdom Ecclesiastes-book of the Old Testament that says "he who offers sacrifice of the property of the poor is like the one slaughters a child before It is well known the father ... "- donated their property in an act of humanitarian release.

Was performed in 30 patients, a clinical study of the therapeutic and pharmacological effects of the fluocortolone ( Ultralan - ( R ) 1) , novel synthetic steroid derived from corticosterone . As adjunctive treatment of tuberculostatic drugs was administered to 18 patients with different clinical forms of tuberculosis (pleurisy with effusion , meningitis , miliary seeding) , in 6 patients with hypersensitivity reactions , 2 with systemic lupus erythematosus, one with dermotomiositis and 3 with leukemia . It has been seen that fluocortolone possesses a good anti- inflammatory effect with a relatively low potential to cause the appearance of secondary maniIestaciones . On the second day of administration, determinations and 17 - 0HS urinary 17 -KS showed that a single morning dose of 30 mgms . , Fluocortolone has a suppressive effect of somewhat less than 2 mgms adrenal function . dexameth...

174 people studied , 91 were normal controls, 55 nephropathy with renal insufficiency ( CIR ) and 28 without renal failure ( SIR) . The standard test of glucose tolerance (TST ) in 102 , being a definite intolerance in nephropathy , which was greater in the CIR group was performed . The differences between the 3 groups were statistically significant from 90 minutes. The tolbutamide test ( TT ) conducted in 83 subjects showed a decrease with poor resilience in response nephropathy . The curves allow differentiation found curves diabetics. Tolbutamide index also allowed differentiation between the 3 groups . The glucagon test (TG ) conducted in 20 subjects suggests the existence of a normal glycogenolysis in nephropathy , which showed a hyperglycemic response than controls. Relationship between the magnitude of serum creatinine of nephropathy with the degree of abnormality of test glucose ...

We used the fluocortolono, synthetic derivative of corticosterone in a single morning dose adjunctive corticosteroid medication along with TB treatment in 12 patients with pleurisy serofibrinous, 4 with meningitis and 2 with miliary tuberculous sow: combination therapy allowed rapid remission of inflammatory exudative component of the symptomatology, radiological abnormalities and decreased length of hospitalization. The aforementioned steroid has a good anti-inflammatory effect with lower potential to produce Cushing syndrome compared to other similar synthetic corticosteroids. The rare and little heavy to use under the scheme employed secondary manifestations not determined the dose reduction and even less treatment discontinuation.

Hormonal variations that characterize the normal menstrual cycle, noting that depends on adequate hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian interaction are reviewed. He realizes the daily changes of the gonadotropins, estrogens and progesterone, as measured by radioimmunoassay blood analysis, gained over 7 normal menstrual cycles. It was found that the concentrations of FSH and LH are slightly higher in the follicular phase than in the luteal, displaying all mesocíclica them a matching rise in the ovulatory phase of both LH and FSH. Estradiol showed a significant elevation pre-ovulatory surge of gonadotropins and another in the luteal phase. Progesterone remained at a low level during the follicular phase increase substantially since the onset of the ovulatory peak of gonadotropins. The meaning of these hormonal changes is discussed.
